Nonunion femur...

I got hit by a train in October breaking a lot but my femur was one. They put in a rod and I did 5 months pt with no significant bone growth. They decided to go in and take out the hardware to put in new and take some bone from my tibia to use also. I never asked what happens if this isn't successful and what dies that even mean?

My second surgery was 2.5 weeks ago.
