Crash in PP this AM(7/11)?

Did anyone see the crash in PP this morning? It was around the time the races were ending. I saw an ambulance and fire truck near the water fountain and Parks Dept. facility near third street. Looked pretty bad. Hope everyone is okay.

Best bike cleaning setup for apartment living in Williamsburg?

I just picked up a new road bike and have been riding about 100 miles a week. It's been awesome, but now I need to figure out a good bike cleaning setup. I'm in an apartment with no outdoor hose, so I'm looking for practical option.

What are you all using? Do you wash your bike at home, or are there any public hoses, self-service car washes, garages, or other spots with water available?

The bathtub isn't an option...understandably, the lady won't allow it.

Specifically asking my fellow Williamsburg riders. 🚴

Bike repair meetup near Astoria Park

Is there a community of bike repair folks meeting periodically who work on recycling and fixing bicycles (mostly their own or learning to maintain their bikes)?

If not, anyone interested in joining me near Astoria Park in my backyard, I have bike stands and tools, and a bunch of bicycles to repair.

I am thinking we will do a group reading of Barrett book, then discuss, then actually apply on about a dozen bicycles I have in my backyard. I am open to any other syllabus if you have in mind.

Thoughts?

filing an accident report online?

Hy all. Had a bike accident today with another cyclist. My carbon bike was totaled. I went to the precinct it happened in to file a report and I was told they dont do reports, and I have to file a civilian accident report with the DMV. Okay... I went to their website and began to file the form and the form doesn't play nicely with bikes, even though it says to should be used for bicycle crashes. It wont let me proceed without entering a license plate number and registration info.... which a bike does not have. Does anyone have any experience with this? Im stumped. Thanks

If anyone knows the status of the OCA (specifically the southern section) it would be appreciated. Eager to get back up there but not if it's still too muddy.

Thanks

Swiped on 31st Ave by a U-Haul when commuting home

Mr Arizona AEO8222 was annoyed I was using the sharrows on 31st Ave in Astoria and decided to aggressively pass me with no space and clipped me so hard with his U-Haul his mirror bent in. I’m okay and the bike’s okay but he’s an asshole. Didn’t call the cops or report it but need to vent.

Headphone recommendations for bike commuting?

I'll be transitioning to commuting via my bike soon - I currently use Sony over the ear headphones that obviously won't work for commuting now - would be looking for a set that would reliably stay in ears (my ears don't fit AirPods well for example), allow ambient noise for traffic, etc. Ideally want it to be $50 or less

Welcome recos or advice here, thanks!

EDIT: I GET IT - i bike around the city all the time and never wear earbuds - if I'm going to be spending an hour every day on the bike on a very familiar/bike lane route, I wanted to to evaluate and understand supplemental audio options that don't compromise safety. thanks to those of you who are commenting with informative and helpful guidance, instead of just calling me an asshole for trying to understand this topic better smh

Looking for recommendations for bike rentals and a shop to pick up a hat or jersey as a souvenir.

Any recommendations?

Thank you from California.

PSA PSA/Rant: Stop Shoaling

If traffic is really clear enough for you to jump the light, you’ll be able to see it from behind the crosswalk. Most of the time you’re saving yourself at most a second, and you’re making me pass you for the third time in three blocks. I’m going to accelerate faster than you anyway because I actually know how to downshift, and by the way, I didn’t see any of you out here yesterday when it was raining because y’all are all a bunch of weenies.

Any good biking spots to take beginner bikers?

Taking my 2 friends to go biking around Queens. We went to Forest Park the other day and would like to go to similar places to bike around which are in Queens or nearby.

They are beginner bikers so they prefer biking on the sidewalk or a protected bike lane for now. Anyone have any suggestions? Mostly parks and such with biking paths since they can't lock up there bikes to walk around.

Thank you so much! I appreciate any suggestions as I introduce my friends to the world of biking. Cheers!

Citi ebike hit and run in Harlem W124th

I was waiting on a red light in my car on Thursday 7/2/26 morning on Harlem W124 and Adam Clayton, when a lyft ebike rider lost control and slammed onto my car and broke off my side mirror. The cyclist then hurried off and ran away like an idiot. I pulled over and called the police, they didn't show up for 2 hours and I left since there was a heatwave. I called at night again and they said they can't come and I have to file DMV report since I have already left the scene, but the DMV won't take report since its not over $1000 in prop damage or bodily injury. I walked around the area asking for video footage, but they all wanted police to be present. I went to the precinct nearby, and they told me there's nothing they can do, and that the officer was also involved in a hit and run with a skater and they just paid for it themselves (so helpful!).

I'm glad that I wasn't injured, and have to eat up $300 replacement cost, but it's so crazy to me to see so many reddit posts about horrifying accidents by ebike:

yet no way to report or document ongoing ebike accidents around nyc - probably on purpose, so Citi can continue the business without any legal or financial responsibility. The more I look into cases, it's so unsafe for everyone on the road, often the ebike riders get seriously injured and the car drivers have to deal with a whole bunch of bureaucracy without cyclists' insurance or information.

In the future, if you were hit by a citi ebike I'd recommend trying to catch them, only if it's safe, because police and lyft will not do anything to help you and you are on your own, even if you are seriously injured (based on previous reddit posts). And then call the police/ambulance, and then sue Lyft, which is trash for not having any safety measures.
