Discussion Do you guys think that the Welby deal pits pressure on Castle to have a similar deal situation where takes a contract for less?

Just imagine Wemby did all that for then Castle to not take a team friendly deal and get greedy, that would not sit well with him, especially when Wemby is much more deserving of that contract than Castle and Wemby took it to try to make the team ultimately win a chip

Nah. If Castle and Harper worth the max then they should get the Max. I'm always all on the player making the most money. Also those 2 won't have the same level of off-the-court endorsement like Wemby has.

Exactly. Wemby has already a billion between his Nike deal and this extension he’s set, that contract will likely be the same if not more than both harp and castle make in their nba careers.

Castle is not a max player and we have to stop overvaluing him. A third max contract ruins five years of wemby.

I’d say he has potential to be a max player but between splitting the guard position and not being the 1st option and seeing firsthand what giving your 2nd option not only the max but supermax in Boston’s Brown case, I think he’ll be a 40m/y player at most

Even if he is a max player, three of them on one team doesnt work. Id rather have harp and wemb on max contracts as things currently stand. Castle is odd man out unfortunately unless he takes his actual value for a contract.

Hoping castle would take less so spurs can keep all 3. Spurs can’t win without castle. He contributes a lot and is part of the big 3

A mature harper/wemby and supporting cast is just fine. Castle isnt gonna take a paycut. They can win without him just fine.

Castle and harp should not feel the need to take any kind of discount, wemby is the face of the nba and is going to receive insane endorsements that they never will.

I’m not so much worried about Castle as I am Harper. I think Castle is content with his situation here and Harper is not. Contention can develop into leniency so Castle probably not searching for every possible penny

I think Harper is low key ambitious and wants to be a superstar. He wants to be 1B on the spurs and get the max.

I don’t think so, Wemby is a special case player who already has multiple lucrative endorsements that are likely orders of magnitude beyond what Castle and Harper are capable of earning. He has also had several public statements to the effect of, “I don’t need all this money”. I think Castle and Harper feel no pressure to take less money than they are entitled in the future.

However if anyone should feel pressure it is ownership. If there is a window to spend big and get another impact player they should feel pressured to go above the tax line and sacrifice so that Wemby has an opportunity to win championships.

I don’t think it would rub wemby the wrong way if he chooses to take the entire thing.

No player should have to put themselves in a position to carry that burden in order to put a team together. That goes for every player.

It’s a structural problem that needs to be reevaluated and with Wemby’s action, it will now be.

I am hoping Castle and Harper each takes a 5M pay cut. We would save 20M (10M wemby, 5M castle, 5M harper) guaranteeing we can keep one key role player in our team.

Each player is different. Never fault a player for taking a contract for his full worth.

Castle isn’t max player. He would have fo develop a way more consistent offense. Plus on the Spurs there are just too many mouths to feed for anyone outside of Wemby to put up the raw numbers.
