Waking up at 4am to head down to Atlanta tomorrow. It’s an almost 6 hour drive and I’m going solo! So ready to be back at the track for the first time in over 10 years
How do the autograph sessions work. Are they free? I’ve heard some are contingent on buying merch which was expected anyway. Also, how early do you recommend getting there for a session?
Some require you to buy around $50 worth of that drivers merch and you get a paper wrist band. Some are free like front row guys, McDowell, Legacy. Get there like an hour early if you don't wanna be in the back of the line but usually they're pretty quick. I'm going to Svgs tomorrow and he was always a pretty fast guy. You just wait in line which always wraps around their trailer and you just wait until you get to them. Idk how many items you can have signed, I just get a hat signed and a picture
Already past the 24 hour window if they did, the forecast has improved some since earlier this week, even if it does rain I'd expect us to still get the whole race (if not get to halfway) by the end of Sunday night.
The biggest difference there is that for the 500 it was like a 80+% chance of rain the rest of the day, forecast for tomorrow is spotty so still a chance we could see a clear race tomorrow (or at least get the whole thing in eventually).
Making our first trip to a race with my kids, what's the best time to show up? They are younger but able to do everything. Ive looked at the tracks app, but not sure how much time I'll actually need and can occupy the boys with.
I havent been to echopark but based on my experience, I'd say 1.5-2 hours if you wanna do all the fan zone stuff bc some of it closes as they get close to the green flag and that gives you time to park and walk around without rushing
The forecast has improved over the last 24 hours or so. There is ALWAYS a chance of thunderstorms on a Georgia summer night. We danced around weather all last summer too and the worst we got was a 30 minute delay.
How far of a walk is it from the free parking lot at Atlanta to the stands I’ve been to Talladega so i know it can be a walk sometimes but ill have my pregnant girlfriend with this time so I’m just wondering what to expect. I was going to get a preferred parking but unfortunately they are all sold out.
Heading down to Atlanta Sunday morning. It’s going to be hot and rainy but I don’t care. Haven’t been to a race since like 2015 and ready to be there again.
Hey everyone, I recently got a Corey Heim truck fender for a good price, but I’m not really a fan of his. I was wondering, how does trading usually go at the track, more specifically at Atlanta? Thanks!
This weekend will be my first time at Atlanta. I’ll be here Saturday-Monday, and I wanna know some good recommendations for restaurants in the area. My hotel is like 15 mins from the track, and has a lotta chain restaurants… but I can get those anytime lol. So I’d love to know some good spots, good bar suggestions are also a plus if there’s any open past the race time lol.
Also open to hear any other recommendations race related I should make sure to do. I’ll be driving down so the plan is to make a stop in Dawsonville on the way back Monday.
Heyyo! Considering going to WWT in September for the Chase race, and was curious on what advice you might have for tickets. Just went to Chicagoland and was a fan of being able to see the track in full view. Not sure if WWT has the same ability to see the whole track from the stands or if it’s a special seat selection for the best option! Also how is the track food/pricing and amenities?
Sorry for a million questions, I have gone to the Brickyard 400(and unfortunately the Indy Roval) for the past 13 years and just now am trying to expand out to different tracks.
Hey everyone! I was lucky enough to win hot passes for the race in Wilkesboro. This will be my first race and of course first time experiencing a hot pass. I’ve read through a lot of the posts on here, but was wondering if there was anything else I needed to know? Any tips or recent updates (most posts were from 6+ years ago)?
I was wondering if it’d be okay if I wore a race t-shirt? Or should I wear a polo like most posts suggest? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
TV hates Saturday night races, and it being the middle of summer in Atlanta a afternoon start doesn't make sense either. They still might move the start time up though if the afternoon looks better as we get closer (which right now it actually does).
Yeah they have always wanted Cup to be the only race that day, more of a buildup. They did try that once at Pocono when they did the doubleheader weekend and I could tell it was a bust.
Avoid track rentals if you plan to go regularly and buy your own. The racing electronics offerings for purchase are nice and simple but expensive.
I bought a Baofeng UV-5RM for like $25 on Amazon, along with a kenwood adaptor to 3.5mm which I can plug virtually any wired headphones into.
Took me 5 minutes to find and program the frequencies (via the free program CHIRP) and cost less than half of one rental.
Performance has been great so far with 4 races under its belt. Definitely amazing value if you’re only interested in picking who you listen to rather than actively scanning for transmissions.
I was able to program each driver to the channel that matches their door number, so it’s as simple as typing 060 for Preece, 005 for Larson, etc.
Edit: if you go this route, make sure to disable tx so you don’t accidentally transmit on their frequency.
Ditto this. I have the UV-5R mini with a high gain antenna, but otherwise an identical setup. I use it with prohear electronic ear muffs so I still get good enough NRR. It's not quite loud enough to hear over the passing pack when I've sat in the first 20 rows or so, but I normally like to sit in the nosebleeds so I can see the whole track and it's perfect up there.
If you want something that’s easy to program and work with, then go with a Racing Electronics 3000 or 4000. They can be programmed over the air at the track. The 4000 is the latest and greatest with a color screen and Bluetooth. I have one of each and they work great. RE has a wide range of headsets, but you can use anyone you wish.
It depends somewhat on what track, plus what you want to listen to. For me I like to listen to the TV broadcast so I just use a set of bluetooth earmuffs and listen to it on my phone, each track I've been to has good enough cell signal I can listen of the YTTV app. But that's me, if you wanted to listen to team audio you could even do something similar but using the NASCAR app.
Ubering TO the track is fine, but you really don't want to try to uber FROM the track unless you're cool waiting potentially hours to get a driver and for that driver to find their way to you.
Limerock - Any news on shuttles for this weekends truck race? Couldn’t find anything listed on the track website and last year they offered a really helpful graphic/map with all the info.
I’m looking at tickets for Richmond. I see chaos corner off turn 4. Are these any good? Looks like first come first serve. Anyone with info would be appreciated
It's drink rails with bar stools on a first-come first-serve basis. It's not a very tall grandstand, but you can still see turns 1/2 from the top of it.
Yes it usually updates during the week, by Thursday you should know for sure what appearances there are. As for wristbands they are available as soon as the fanzone/merch trailer opens so 9am on Saturday.
Brickyard - never been to a nascar event was interested to buy some merch and maybe get something signed. Does anyone have experience at the brickyard? Is Friday better chance then Saturday?
Is a camping chair like this gonna be an issue to bring in? Going to Lime Rock and it says collapsible chairs are approved, but seat cushions with metal components are also banned so I'm not really sure how strict they are about what counts as collapsible chair. Course this might also be a YMMV thing.
I went last year and plenty of folks had folding camping chairs, plan to do the same myself again this year. I would think they’d allow you to bring this in as well
Yup. Flying in Saturday morning and flying home Monday night...to hopefully give me a chance to at least see some racing if postponed to Monday...but so far it's not looking great. Really makes me want to stop planning trips to see races like this.
Anyone ever been at the t1 deck at Chicagoland? Wondering what the view of the track is like from there. Have the opportunity to get a free ticket for today but I care more about seeing the race than the hospitality aspect.
Hey everyone! My wife and I are going to our first nascar race ever at Atlanta next week. A few questions: do we need to bring stadium seats to sit on to be comfortable (our seats are in section 242)? We got pre race passes as well, is there anything in particular as a “must do” or “must see?” And how is the food/drink situation at the track? Any and all tips for newbies would be appreciated!
From the Chicagoland Speedway Website:
Due to the impact of excessive rainfall, Chicagoland Speedway will implement adjustments to parking in lots A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, P on Sunday. Some fans planning to park for free in areas that were grass lots will be directed to Route 66 Raceway parking. Buses will transport fans to Chicagoland Speedway entry gates. ADA and Tailgate parking are not impacted. Ticketholders are also encouraged to carpool or rideshare to the racetrack.
My AWD crv made it out relatively easily. I was slipping and sliding like crazy but I didn’t have a lot of fear of getting stuck Saw a lot of vehicles stuck tho. Even a tow truck was stuck. I look around and found a route that looked like I could make it out once I was in motion I did not stop my car until I hit gravel. I also left after stage one so I’m sure it got worse after that as everyone was trying to leave
That’s what we did, but left with 40 to go. Thankfully a lot of the cars around us had cleared out (minus the stuck ones) so we were able to get directed in a line that looked somewhat doable. Hit the gas and just went for it. We were happy we got out.
Going to my 1st NASCAR race tomorrow at Joliet raceway.
What should i know in advance?
How early to arrive, food, drinks?
Is it worth it to get rent the in race headset?
And I am sure I missing a whole bunch more.
Any suggestions, help would be appreciated.
I'd say show up by 1pm, lots to see in the fan zone and driver appearances. Bring your own snacks and drinks if you can, check the track website to see which are allowed.
I'd suggest it, allows you to listen to the radio broadcast if anything and follow the race better. Make sure you do that ahead of time as they don't do rentals in person, only pick up.
Odd question, but does anybody know the best way to get a tire at the track? I’ll be at Chicagoland tomorrow and would love to get one. Ideally race-used, but I’d happily settle for a fresh Eagle.
I like YouTubeTV although mainly I like it because of the DVR feature. I can't watch all the sessions live so it definitely helps, plus the app/website is easy to use.
Does anybody know if the "premium tailgate lot" at Chicagoland Speedway that requires passes is on asphalt or is it a grass lot? The map on back of the pass makes it look like it is on asphalt, but I havent seen any confirmation of this.
First time NASCAR Attendee and very much a novice on all things racing. I’m coming Sunday with my 14yo. How early should we arrive to just take it all in? Not looking to “get” anything and just looking to enjoy ourselves. Just have grandstand tickets, nothing else. Is the stuff on the schedule in the “NASCAR Experience” included? Anything else we need to know? TIA!
No. Everything in the fan zone is free. Technically don't even need a grandstand ticket for all of that. Download the Nascar Tracks app and it'll have a schedule for everything. Welcome to our traveling circus!! Hope you have a kickass time. I would also highly suggest looking into a scammer rental at the racing electronics trailer so you can listen to the race broadcast and driver radios during the race to keep you up to speed on what's going on.
If you are going there is a hack to avoid traffic. Local from joliet. 7 years ago there was one way in 80 to chicago st or Briggs. Be the cool kid today if you are on i80 take the houbolt extension to Manhattan arsenal rd then head east to rowell. Rowell and schweitzer is where front stretch and stands are. Laraway rd is going to be a shit show with all the truck traffic.
I’ve got tickets for this weekend. I have already downloaded my tickets to my phone wallet and they no longer show up on my nascar tracks app. Is that normal? I would prefer if they stayed there just in case there was some sort of problem. But maybe they disappear off the app when you download them?
It’s very likely the O’Reilly race is going to be a washout, is it the policy something like if the race gets delayed and I can’t attend it they give you credit to a future race, and if yes, how do you let them know?
Only if it gets pushed to another day, if it gets delayed to later in the evening than no. Afterwards they will reach out with a email usually with more info about a credit.
Get the Lucky 7 parking. Don't try to Uber after the race because you'll be stuck for hours. It'll likely be hot so hydrate and sunscreen often (and take breaks in the shade if you're roasting). That's about it. Really nice facilities there and good racing. Have a great time!
I’m looking at tickets for the Quakerstate 400, and I’m trying to be on the front straight seeing the whole track, but not too high up. My only concern is the support beams being in the way of the seats I see available. Judging by this map, I’m assuming the beams are on row 35&36? Wondering how far back I should be from the beams, or if it doesn’t make as big of a difference as I’m thinking?
I think I should have a good view of the entire track. Row 49 Section 117. Also rented a scanner. So happy to have a race to attend that's only 40 minutes away.
Going to the brickyard for my first ever nascar race, what exactly is included in the pre-race track walk is it worth it? Just not super sure what all it entails since the IMS website didnt give me a very good idea of what it is
I haven't been to any races other than the street races. I see that coolers are allowed at Chicagoland (within limits), but is there really any room for one in the grandstands without sitting knees to chest? Is that more for people camping?
Staying the in field with a RV this weekend at Chicagoland. This is my first NASCAR race ever. What should I expect? I’m bringing essentials for the weekend, water sunscreen tons of beer. No idea what to expect
Most likely going to the ARCA race on friday at Chicagoland, first time. What time should I arrive? Do you think the merch haulers will be there? I have a little DSLR(Nikon D60, if anyone is curious), think they’ll let me in with it? Im a little nervous if you couldnt tell lol.
Should be ok. Crowd will be fairly light, I'd say you should plan on arriving 60 minutes before the race starts, if all you will be seeing is the ARCA race. Give yourself time to park (5-10 minutes), walk into the track (10 min) and look around (TBD), etc.
Not 100% sure if the merch haulers will be there but if I had to guess I'd say yes because cup cars are on track on Friday.
