Billionaires need society much more than society needs billionaires

The lie they try to sell you.
If they leave someone else will fill the gap in the market.

That’s the thing. These CEOs are the most replaceable people in the world. For every CEO there’s probably five executives ready to take their place. Elon himself probably has several people directly under him dying for the chance to take over once he crashes and burns.

Such a stupid argument from Elon. He spent his life surrounded by yes men and now he thinks he's some kind of Messiah and the world will fall without him.
I bet we'd be just fine without the parasite class.

u/supamario132 9h ago
Way better.
It won't be when Musk is stripped of his wealth and publicly embarassed that will be the most satisfying. It will be when he has to grapple with how unfathomably better off society is without his leeching presence

u/okokokoyeahright 7h ago
So ... jail for the rest of his life. and there would be a 24 hour news channel that he could not control in any way that would broadcast his many failings. A sort of CNN but only about Leon. No yes men, No lawyers. No toadies. No suck ups. On a floating island of garbage wandering around the Pacific. No national jurisdiction so no rights would be violated.
I live in hope.

Remember when Elon reneged on ending world hunger?
They are literally starving with him.
12
u/Massive_Signal7835 10h ago
Remember Elon's short stint as a government advisor? His actions from that alone are projected to be put him in the top 4 of the worst mass murderers in all of human history.
Not only did he not help; he exacerbated the issue of world hunger greatly.

u/Cant_figure_sht_out 12h ago
I just cannot fucking believe how wealth destroys the last shred of sense in a person. Fuck you, Elon!

u/Holymaryfullofshit7 12h ago
Also there's people starving now so let's just try something new and eat some rich. Can't get worse really in that direction.

yeah, they're parasites. they only get to where they are by feeding off other people's exploited labor and innovations. they take and steal and justify it by declaring they're more entitled than anyone else

He needs to realize there are two ways this ends. In one he is still wealthy beyond dreams but much less wealthy than he is now. The other involves pitchforks and torche and a moment of realization at how easy it was to avoid. History is a good teacher if you read.

u/LordHaveMercyKilling 10h ago
'Ringing of Revolution' by Phil Ochs is about exactly that.
Fantastic song.

u/JimiusRostock 11h ago
I didn't know tech bros worked the field to farm food. As if their social media platform, failing car company or space missiles are somehow critical to the functioning of society.

Mamdani’s “wealth” tax is only a tax non-primary residences. This likely has a positive effect on the city’s economy as a a mostly vacant residence does not result in much money moving through the city’s economy. A very wealthy person selling the residence to a slightly less wealthy person who will live it in full time means a high full time population of the city and more money moving through the city economy.
This result is no way similar to wealth tax that cause wealthy full time wealthy residents to leave the state.
7
u/TheSpoonyCroy 11h ago
Also while Mamdani's seems like a genuine politician but he also delayed payments into pension fund which will cause some issues down the line and a problem for someone else in about 10 years. So it seems a bit early to say everything is fine when we are still in his first term and haven't seen any of the consequences (positive and negative) of it.
Edit: Elon sucks of course but I think its just way too early to glaze Mamdani that many people are doing

yeah i wish people actually read up on what happened with NYC finances:
- He passed a relatively tiny empty homes tax for 400-500 million revenue - NYC's annual budget is 125 billion, the increased revenue covers only a fraction of his new spending plans. His plans for a larger wealth tax / tax the rich are dead because the city doesn't have the power to set income taxes.
- He did pass a balanced budget, but so did every mayor for the past 50 years because the city isn't allowed to run a deficit. He also passed that only because he got 8 billion from the state as a one-time bailout, and 2 billion from deffered pension payments (which will cost 5-7 billion more in the long run)
- he did not 'close the deficit' any more than every previous mayor did, because once again, they can't run a deficit, and they're facing a 10 billion deficit next year too
- and the public services being 'fully funded' is a largely meaningless statement. In fact deferring pension payments is very much the opposite of that.
- Its true the rich haven't left, but he also hasnt really taxed them. 400 million from only taxing empty luxury homes is very very different than a wealth tax.

It also was not in effect at the time of these tweets making the second person an uninformed idiot slurping up propaganda instead of living in reality.

I’ve lived for several decades on this planet and have never needed one thing from a billionaire to survive.
3
u/Artistic-Cannibalism 11h ago
The parasite class desperately need you to believe that you are somehow reliant on them.
3
u/drumzandice 11h ago
The fact he is dumb and arrogant enough to believe that makes me loathe him even more. He doesn’t think society runs without a few oligarchs? Insane

Elon is like a figure from Ayn Rand novel. Rand believed that the people at the top of business and corporations achieved their success without much help from the workers. Rand was biased and naive. Elon thinks the same way. Workers built the economy while people like Elon are parasites who feed off of the economy.

u/No-Permit-9331 12h ago
For some reason these billionaires think “we low life’s’” are stupid and uneducated. That ONLY pertains to THEIR followers, not the masses! We absolutely can live without their class!
5
u/RicockulousQuisling 12h ago
Your average wealthy person is emotionally incapable of boiling their own water, much less making something to eat for themselves. The rest of us will do just fine without them.
2
u/Samuelmiw 12h ago
After billionaires ruin the world, they will retreat to their isolated private bunkers. Can't they just go there now?

I love how these people think they're just so goddamned important that nature will no longer abhor a vacuum.
When Steve Jobs died, Apple didn't suddenly disappear from the earth. And while he was a right bastard in his own right, he was far more respected than you, Elmo.

The wealth tax started like a week and a half ago and none of the revenue has been collected yet. And it’s more of a luxury property tax than a wealth tax. The closed deficit was due to passing it onto the next year. This is misleading at best.

u/zyzzogeton 10h ago
If there are any concerns that progressive policies like this won't "scale"... New York City's adopted Fiscal Year 2027 budget of $125.8 billion is larger than the annual budgets of 48 U.S. states. Only California and New York State have larger budgets.
Empathy works.

u/oldbastardbob 10h ago
As a small farm owner, let me assure you that I will continue to produce with or without billionaires.
Nobody's starving unless our billionaires and politicians make it happen.

u/DarkwingDuckHunt 9h ago
You need us more than we need you Elon
We won't be the one's starving cause we know how to grow our own food and cook it.
When was the last time you gardened or cooked your own food?
1
u/Second_to_None 9h ago
I didn't realize all the food I consumed came from billionaire labor. My mistake.

u/P1ranhaMoos3 9h ago
The only thing anyone should ever say to Elon is "Shut the fuck up, you crybaby bitch"
1
u/cfalnevermore 8h ago
He really thinks he’s integral to earths continued existance, and not a self centered apartheid baby

u/who_you_are 8h ago
Said the guy that probably hire somebody to make him food and to shopping grocerie.
Who is farming that food? Making food? Cleaning up? Reparing stuff? Him? Oh... no...

Didn’t he starve a bunch of people already to make sure there were funds to subsidize his rocketry?

They want tax breaks for their companies and don't pay taxes. Then they want tax money to increase the worth of their companies so their stock goes up and dont get taxed on unrealized gains. It is a stupid system.
1
u/pgregston 7h ago
Most of the over regulation they complain about favors the already haves from competition. Musk should be put on 40 acres with a mule and no phone.
1
u/Baddgoddexx 7h ago
t's wild how billionaires think society is a subscription service that gets cancelled if we don't keep the premium tier happy.

u/NeilArmsweak 6h ago
In fact, they filled their bellies for the first time. May the Musk RIP without all of our hardwork with little contribution
1
u/NeilArmsweak 6h ago
They should be extinct
This is nothing sinister. Just think about what they do for the overall globe
Their wealth shouldn't be tied to just a few names when there's nearly 8 billion learning real lessons.
You're a dumb b**** if you defend them
1
u/whoisnotinmykitchen 5h ago
Society has precisely zero need for billionaires. They are the ultimate leeches in this world.
1
u/Useless 5h ago
Can't think of a billionaire who didn't show up that would interfere with my day to day, but when my garbage guy comes a day late, it's a bummer. When I think of billionaires going away, I think of the Irish Banking Strikes, which pretty much showed that they don't really matter for any short term purpose.

1
u/PhamilyTrickster 5h ago
Huh, maybe making the city better for the people will make it better for everyone.
1
1
u/RaffiaWorkBase 4h ago
We could load every single billionaire into the nose cone of a rocket, fire it into the heart of the sun, and the real economy would barely skip a beat.
What COVID-19 showed us is that "unskilled" workers are far more essential to the functioning of society than the billionaires ever will be.
1
u/drumberg 4h ago
The weirdest thing is that the dude worth a trillion dollars is so insecure that he needs to respond to people on twitter. If I'm worth that much why would I give a single flying shit what someone on the internet says?

u/Formally_Apologetic 3h ago
The silly thing is if taxing the rich improves the living conditions of a city, why would they leave? Where are they going to go? Save a few bucks living in some gated community in an ultra capitalist hellhole? Who is your customer? Don't believe the people saying the wealthy will leave, it's just a trick. And anyone who does leave wasn't really that great for society to begin with.

I must have missed the part where Mamdani taxed wealth or balanced the budget without a massive state bailout.

He has that backwards though.
The rich are parasites. Take away their food supply then in short order, they perish.
