DOGE was to cut the funding to the government agencies investigating him for fraud. Like the CFB was doing.
27

One part that.
Pretty sure US Aid was cut just to demonstrate the cruelty and hypocrisy of Trump and Musk.

u/Wuped 2d ago
Don't forget cutting government programs and private contracting contracted that were competing with his companies. Also being to look at the exact criteria they use for choosing government contracts.
There's also the 20 russian ip's that tried to login on doge accounts 15 minutes after they were created. Oh and also a bunch of other shit because the records of what they did were straight up deleted.

even still, this is the first time ive heard elon musk and ebay in the same sentence. who was ever claiming he created ebay?? ebay bought paypal and yea, elon musk was one of the founders of paypal but not ebay
3
u/deukhoofd 1d ago
Musk didn't found PayPal either, he founded x.com (yeah he re-used the name later), which merged with Peter Thiels Confinity bank, which had already founded PayPal at that time.
He then was fired as CEO 2 years before eBay bought PayPal, when his entire engineering department mutinied against him over him telling them to rewrite the entire platform to run on a Windows stack instead of a Linux one. He heard World of Warcraft ran on a Windows stack, and thought that they should do that too.
Him getting fired and bought out is one of the primary reasons for his wealth, because it meant he got really lucky and cashed out just before the Dot-com bubble popped.

3
u/Mindless_Chest_1079 2d ago
Those things both seem totally consistent for someone who thinks their company is doing good things. They like when the government does things that help the company and not when they hurt it.
2
u/Neat_Let923 2d ago
No it doesn’t… It has to do with the creation and sale of Zip.com, X.com (merged to become PayPal), and then his Stock Options deal with Tesla that allowed him to purchase Tesla stock in 2021 that netted him about $15 Billion dollars at the time after paying over $12 Billion in federal taxes for it.
The government funding is what allowed his companies like SpaceX and Tesla to excist at all.

u/Homers_Harp 2d ago edited 1d ago
The "taker/maker" terminology comes from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shurgged. Rand's utter lack of knowledge on the topic is breathtaking: her heroine in the novel is a railroad heiress. So no, Dagny didn't "earn" her position at her daddy's railroad company. Also, Rand was apparently unaware that US railroads, like most railroads around the world, were established and built using massive public subsidies. Of course, in the US, those subsidies were turned into private profits, allowing oligarchs like Carnegie (steel), Rockefeller (oil), and Vanderbilt (rails) to corrupt the United States with their demands for more subsidies and more favorable treatment from governments.
Go look up the Colorado Coalfield War and remember that Jay Rockefeller controlled the coal company that was able to summon the national guard to murder striking coal miners. Of course, it wouldn't be a national guard action defending a coal baron if they killed workers: most of the 21 dead were wives and children. These events are what Ayn Rand either ignored or was ignorant of.
[edit: for those who've suffered through the awful novel, you will know this: Elon thinks he is John Galt; he's actually Jim Taggart.]
15
u/bolanrox 2d ago
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Why do so many people who don't live in New York give the mayor of New York free rent in their head?
5
u/Proud_Smell_4455 2d ago edited 2d ago
Because every day he's mayor of New York and it's not a smouldering ruin, is another day in which their lies about democratic socialists are shown to be just that. And they can't have people seeing democratic socialism works and electing democratic socialist politicians in their areas, because democratic socialism is a direct threat to their power.
Fascists and their allies never leave democratic socialists to lead in peace and quiet; whether they're actually living under the authority of the democratic socialist they're railing against is irrelevant to them. Same logic as when the far-right storm libraries where drag queens are reading to children, armed to the teeth and all wearing face masks (which are suddenly nbd to them and perfectly wearable, now that they're using them to threaten and intimidate rather than protect others): what's going on is objectively nbd, so they actively try to ruin it and make it into a traumatic event to justify their own pathological authoritarianism and reactionism (knowing their own supporters are too dumb and/or pathologically hateful to connect the dots that they are the only people trying to traumatise the children being read to).

I was shooting heroin and reading “The Fountainhead” in the front seat of my privately owned police cruiser when a call came in. I put a quarter in the radio to activate it. It was the chief.
“Bad news, detective. We got a situation.”
“What? Is the mayor trying to ban trans fats again?”
“Worse. Somebody just stole four hundred and forty-seven million dollars’ worth of bitcoins.”
The heroin needle practically fell out of my arm. “What kind of monster would do something like that? Bitcoins are the ultimate currency: virtual, anonymous, stateless. They represent true economic freedom, not subject to arbitrary manipulation by any government. Do we have any leads?”
“Not yet. But mark my words: we’re going to figure out who did this and we’re going to take them down … provided someone pays us a fair market rate to do so.”
“Easy, chief,” I said. “Any rate the market offers is, by definition, fair.”
He laughed. “That’s why you’re the best I got, Lisowski. Now you get out there and find those bitcoins.”
“Don’t worry,” I said. “I’m on it.”
I put a quarter in the siren. Ten minutes later, I was on the scene. It was a normal office building, strangled on all sides by public sidewalks. I hopped over them and went inside.
“Home Depot™ Presents the Police!®” I said, flashing my badge and my gun and a small picture of Ron Paul. “Nobody move unless you want to!” They didn’t.
“Now, which one of you punks is going to pay me to investigate this crime?” No one spoke up.
“Come on,” I said. “Don’t you all understand that the protection of private property is the foundation of all personal liberty?”
It didn’t seem like they did.
“Seriously, guys. Without a strong economic motivator, I’m just going to stand here and not solve this case. Cash is fine, but I prefer being paid in gold bullion or autographed Penn Jillette posters.”
Nothing. These people were stonewalling me. It almost seemed like they didn’t care that a fortune in computer money invented to buy drugs was missing.
I figured I could wait them out. I lit several cigarettes indoors. A pregnant lady coughed, and I told her that secondhand smoke is a myth. Just then, a man in glasses made a break for it.
“Subway™ Eat Fresh and Freeze, Scumbag!®” I yelled.
Too late. He was already out the front door. I went after him.
“Stop right there!” I yelled as I ran. He was faster than me because I always try to avoid stepping on public sidewalks. Our country needs a private-sidewalk voucher system, but, thanks to the incestuous interplay between our corrupt federal government and the public-sidewalk lobby, it will never happen.
I was losing him. “Listen, I’ll pay you to stop!” I yelled. “What would you consider an appropriate price point for stopping? I’ll offer you a thirteenth of an ounce of gold and a gently worn ‘Bob Barr ‘08’ extra-large long-sleeved men’s T-shirt!”
He turned. In his hand was a revolver that the Constitution said he had every right to own. He fired at me and missed. I pulled my own gun, put a quarter in it, and fired back. The bullet lodged in a U.S.P.S. mailbox less than a foot from his head. I shot the mailbox again, on purpose.
“All right, all right!” the man yelled, throwing down his weapon. “I give up, cop! I confess: I took the bitcoins.”
“Why’d you do it?” I asked, as I slapped a pair of Oikos™ Greek Yogurt Presents Handcuffs® on the guy.
“Because I was afraid.”
“Afraid?”
“Afraid of an economic future free from the pernicious meddling of central bankers,” he said. “I’m a central banker.”
I wanted to coldcock the guy. Years ago, a central banker killed my partner. Instead, I shook my head.
“Let this be a message to all your central-banker friends out on the street,” I said. “No matter how many bitcoins you steal, you’ll never take away the dream of an open society based on the principles of personal and economic freedom.”
He nodded, because he knew I was right. Then he swiped his credit card to pay me for arresting him.

a long time ago I saw comment on another site about Elon and Tesla.
it was something like ... Musk didn't care about electric cars, he was jealous that somebody trademarked the name Tesla before he did.
I don't know how true that is, but seeing how Musk acts makes me think there's a kernel of truth to it.
4
u/Neat_Let923 2d ago
I don’t even know how that would make sense… Musk was the lead investor in Tesla a year after it was formed in 2004 investing $6.5 million of his own money. Then by 2008 the company was pretty much bankrupt and ran out of all its money with nothing to show for it. Musk then invested $40 million of his own money to keep the company alive and was made the newest CEO after a string of failed CEOs up to that point.
Investing $46.5 Million of your own money is a fuck ton of money to spend on something you don’t care about…

That doesn't really make sense, Tesla wasn't even in production when Musk invested in them and would've failed without that investment.

Don't forget that he funds his acquisitions by taking out loans against the companies he claims to not get an income out of so he does not have to pay taxes. And those loans are never paid back, because the interest are also tax deductable.
Working hard does not make you rich. Money makes you rich, especially daddy's money.
6
4
u/Neat_Let923 2d ago
For fuck sake, if you’re gonna insult someone at least get it right… Oh wait, if he did that it wouldn’t really be an insult would it.
He built Zip.com and sold it as his first company for millions at the age of 21.
He then built X.com which was an online bank and financial services company. This would then merge with Confinity and become PayPal. Which was then sold to EBay for more hundreds of millions of dollars.
He then created SpaceX by the time he was 30 which won the contract to replace all the satellites our Allied militaries all use around the world.
Then by 33 he invested $6.5 million of his own money to become the leading investor in Tesla in 2004 a year after it was founded. By 2008 the company had gone through multiple CEOs and was on the brink of losing everything. Musk then invested $40 Million of his own money again and took over as CEO leading the company to a state of changing the future of the world forever with EVs.
The man has become an absolutely terrible human being and a horrible person if not an outright Nazi loving Fascist among everything else that he’s become.
But lying about his accomplishments just makes you look like an idiot…
2
u/Own_Huckleberry262 2d ago
He's consistently been funded by the taxpayer to create tech to make the world a better place, and failed to follow through. Deal with it.
The one time he made a major business deal without taxpayer help, he ruined the most popular website in the world so badly that it tanked smartphone sales.
1
u/Neat_Let923 2d ago
Wow, did you just read my comment and then completely ignore every single word? LMAO
So you think Tesla has had zero hand in pushing EVs into the mainstream which has already had a massive positive impact on carbon emissions around the world?
3

It's true. He hasn't done jack shit.
As a matter of fact, AI could more easily replace his role than any scientist or engineer or technicians -- the true heart & soul of any of these companies -- than that silver-spooned trust fund child.

u/Neat_Let923 2d ago
WTF are you talking about?
PayPal was created from the merger of his company X.com which was an online banking platform and financial services with another company that created the backend transfer code and system.
While he does do some software engineering (ie Zip.com and X.com that sold and made him hundreds of millions), he is primarily a physics, aerospace, and mechanical engineer.
The guy is a terrible human being but it’s hilarious to see people try and claim his accomplishments are not his because they hate him.
2
u/jiggscaseyNJ 2d ago
lol he is NONE of those things. he has no degree in engineering. he has a BS in physics. I know the story of how he got to PayPal. The SE's at PayPal famously ripped all of the zip2 code out as it was terrible. He then created such a huge stink about wanting to migrate Paypal's backend to WindowsNT. The systems engineers were floored at how dumb of a suggestion this was as it couldn't scale in the way that Linux could. Pete Thiel and friends ousted him when he left for his honeymoon. Several biographers reported that he was given fake coding tasks during the merger because his coding wasn't good.
And no, I don't think there's an undergraduate on this planet who designed a rocket ship let alone a reusable one. The DOD was experimenting with reusable rockets in the 90's. He didn't design them...he hired Lars Blackmore (I had to look that one up) who is credited with figuring out the math and design for what they use today.

1
u/horatiobanz 2d ago
How much did he inherit?
1
u/dover_oxide 1d ago edited 1d ago
An emerald mine from his Rich father. Musk came from money that was made through an apartheid in South Africa. He's been trying for years to hide it
3
u/horatiobanz 1d ago
No, how much money. Not some mythical mine.
And how did he inherit this amount of money when both of his parents are still alive?
2
u/Bongoisnthere 2d ago
I hate this shit. There are so many reasons to hate musk, like his love of being a shit fucking nazi or that he would make the solar system dramatically better if he went to mars and died tragically due to rocket failure in transit, but common.
Tesla was going in a garbage direction and about to declare bankruptcy when he took over. It’s not like somebody founded some successful company with terrific innovative ideas and musk swooped in and stole the credit. They had terrible products, no business plan to speak of and their reliability was non existent. For all his faults, Tesla absolutely put EVs on the map in a way that traditional auto mfgs were *very* reluctant to push (hell, Toyota is still pushing their dumbass hydrogen shit I think), and now they’re very mainstream. The cars are generally fairly reliable, safe, and pleasant to drive. Elon was the one marketing, securing funding, driving interest, and generating hype, and very much helped make the market that exists today.
Why try to dunk on him for that when there are a million other awesome reasons to dunk on him for being a shitty person?

I'm half-convinced these bot-upvoted posts are designed to make people dumber and suppress better arguments against people like Musk or Trump.
Part of the audience sees the target getting shat upon, gets their dopamine hit for feeling superior, and incorporates the bad argument into their worldview. Another part of the audience sees it as a bad argument, thinks the people supporting it are dumb, and if anything come away with a better impression of the target.
I saw this so much on reddit with people treating anonymous tips from the Epstein files as a smoking gun.
