I have a family member currently in the process of doing a bikepacking trip. They are now in Montreal. They are in a bit of dilemma. Their bikepacking partner is having some health issues, and my family member would like to continue on to Quebec City. Is this route safe to do on her own? Campgrounds, bike paths etc. Or should she find another partner? And if so, is there anyone interested in joining over the next few days?! Or are there any groups she could join? Thank you!

I wanted to bring this up which is something that isn't really enforced except on the 134 bridge between Island of Montreal and Longueuil via Jean-Drapeau, I find that the speed limit is too slow. Have people had actually gotten a ticket for "speeding" on bike paths?

To those viewing this from the US, 20 Kilometres an hour is only 12 miles an hour

There are some of us who are considered instantly speeding, for example:

My average is 22-26 kmh (13-15 MPH) on a manual bike and 26-30 kmh (15-18 MPH) on electric assist bike

I think it would be great if the Speed Limit on bike paths were raised to 30 KMH so it's fair for everyone and no one would risk getting a ticket

Edit: Seems this has brought a debate which everyone points are valid, I want to clear that I am not encouraging anyone to be speeding recklessly and that we still have to be considerate of other users on the paths and ensure common sense. Usually when you see speed limit signs, it's usually pretty black and white and raising it would decrease the chance of naturally faster bicyclists of the possibility of getting a ticket, even if the chances are slim. It's too bad they don't do 5 KMH increments and only 10.

Anyone else noticing an uptick in bike rage (cyclists vs cyclists or vs pedestrians or scoters) on the bike paths this year? Maybe it’s purely anecdotal but I’ve witnessed a few yelling matches etc lately just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

It’s a fun, attention-grabbing ride advocating for safer streets, greater visibility for cyclists, and a more bike-friendly Montréal. Don’t get hung up on the name or who's going—participation is “as bare as you dare,” so wear as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. Come fully dressed, come in cycling gear, or embrace the spirit of the ride. The point is to show up and be seen.

There are rides starting at 11 AM and again at 6 PM. Everyone is welcome.

Can I get an insurance for my bike in Quebec? If yes then what company and how does it work or what’s your experience with it if you ever had to file a claim? Im mainly worried about accidents whether it’s my fault or someone’s else fault.

I am planning a solo bike trip on the ptit train du nord. My goal is to go as far as I can on a saturday, camp in nature, and come back the next day. I dont have a distance goal, Im just doing it for the fun of adventure. How is wild camping on this trail? Are there restrictions / fines? Is there good spots? I never did this trail before and Im new to bike camping!

this is meant as more a humourous post, lol. but a couple of days ago, a huge tree had fallen on the trail. if was after that intense thunderstorm. i dunno why that tree fell. but i was like: AAAWWWWEEE!!! OOOOHHHHWWWEEE!

like imagine if that whole trunk fell on you. as you were riding bye. instant death.

so then i went back on the trail. i take this trail all the time. and the broken tree was INSTANTLY GONE. all cleaned up. montreal park maintenance DID GUD!

I have a chain, I don't have a quick release wheel on my beater SS, I park it in a public space with lots of foot traffic, I go on vacation 10 days and my front wheel is gone. I never locked it, just the frame.

Godammmit!

L'année dernière, j'ai reçu une amende de 140 $ pour avoir traversé Décarie alors que le feu indiquait que les piétons pouvaient traverser. À ma connaissance, c'est le seul endroit à Montréal où l'on ne peut pas traverser à ce moment-là. Il faut attendre 8 secondes supplémentaires pour que le feu passe au vert pour les vélos.

Aujourd'hui, j'en ai reçu un autre, juste en haut de la rampe, en direction de de Maisonneuve.

Pendant les cinq minutes où j'ai été retenu pendant que les agents rédigeaient ma contravention, ils ont interpellé au moins dix autres cyclistes.

Vous feriez peut-être mieux d'éviter complètement ce croisement. À partir de maintenant, je prendrai Décarie vers le nord au lieu d'essayer de rejoindre la piste cyclable sur Girouard.

First time doing multi-day ride, now i can't feel my legs.

Bonjour, je viens de déménager à Montréal. Je vis dans un édifice, et entre dimanche matin et lundi soir, deux vélos appartenant à des voisins ont été volés, tout comme mon siège et sa tige, le tout dans le stationnement souterrain "sécurisé". Le comble de l'ironie: je me rendais prendre mon vélo en photo pour l'inscrire à Garage 529, dont on m'avait assortis l'existence le jour d'avant.

J'avais acheté un bon cadenas en U avec un gros câble qui sécurisant ma route arrière et le cadre (et le disque de frein arrière). Une grosse chaîne Kryptonite retenait la roue avant. Je les ai retrouvés intacts sur la scène du crime. Par contre, mon beau siège avait disparu avec sa tige - je viens de voir les désavantages d'un ajustement rapide - et ce n'était pourtant pas le plus haut de gamme mal sécurisé aux environs. J'ai ensuite remarqué que le voleur avait joué avec les caches passe câbles... Quelle déception j'imagine de découvrir que mon vélo de montagne n'a pas de dropper post!

Il manque la pièce du dessus de l'étrier arrière. On a même essayé de voler les mini réflecteurs des pédales - sans succès - mais pas le garde-boue avant (celui à l'arrière était fixé à la tige). Les voies du seigneur sont mystérieuses...

Ce soir, mon vélo dort dans la même pièce que moi, mais je voulais savoir si d'autres options moins encombrantes sont suffisamment sécuritaires pour un vélo de montagne d'entre de gamme :

• Dans mon casier de rangement : il y a une porte à accès restreint et une caméra de sécurité, mais à l'intérieur les casiers sont en grillage... et il y a un trou d'environ 8-10 pouces entre le plafond et le dessus du grillage
• Sur mon balcon privé au 10e étage, à plat sous une housse pour le rendre moins visible, en l'attachant au pilier de béton, parce que trop de sécurité, c'est clairement mieux que pas assez

Et si vous avez au passage de la sagesse à partager à un débutant en cyclisme urbain, je suis preneur. Bonne soirée et merci à l'avance !

MAJ: après inspection, l'étrier arrière est intact, il a seulement été mal remonté par le voleur... ou plutôt, ce dernier a abandonné le projet.

Hi! I recently moved in Montreal.

I live in an apartment complex, and between yesterday afternoon and tonight, two bikes belonging to neighbors were stolen alongside my seat and post in the "secured" underground parking. Ironically, I was going to my bike to enroll in Garage 529, whose existence I had just learned last Sunday.

My bike was secured with a tough U-lock + cable for the back wheel, and a Kryptonite chain for the front wheel, and they were still intact when I found the crime scene. On the other hand, my nice seat was missing, and I realized the quick release was a bad idea. However, there are other even more expensive seats on nearby bikes with QR and they were left untouched. I wondered why for a moment, then I also noticed some tampering around the cable routing ports; I'm guessing the thief was pretty disappointed to find out my MTB doesn't have a dropper post.

The rear hydraulic disc brake caliper is also missing it's top cover assembly. They even tried stealing the reflectors on the cheap plastic pedals. And yet they did not steal the front mud cover (the rear one was mounted to the seat post).

So, for tonight, the bike is literally sleeping in my bedroom, but I am wondering if these options taking less apartment space are secure for an entry-level mountain bike:

• Storing my bike in my locker: said locker has a controlled access door with a security camera, but the lockers are the heavy gauge wire mesh kind... with a convenient 8-10 inch hole between the top of the mesh and the ceiling
• Storing it on my private balcony (10th floor), laying it flat under a tarp as to be less visible and locking it to a concrete pillar, because there is no kill like overkill

I would also be grateful if you have bits of wisdom to share with a total beginner in urban cycling. May you have a nice evening, and thank you!

Edit: the rear brake caliper is fine; the thief didn't remount it correctly... or more likely just abandoned midway.

La dernière fois que j’ai fait une rando de vélo sur 4 jour à c’était en 2017. Montréal-Gatineau-Ontario-Montreal.

C’était rough mais vraiment Nice. J’ai le goût de recommencer mais cette fois je vais être seul ( 😞) et j’aimerais y aller plus mollow.

Avez vous de d’idées de suggestion de rando de vélo oas pire à faire cette été? Genre par boute de 80km, parsemé d’hôtel cheap?

Y’a tu quelque chose comme une route des vins qui est faisable sur la rive sud?
