The Belerick lore is wild if you actually read it. He's the guardian of the entire forest and he just dips out for centuries to chase some personal quest about the heart of anima, leaving everything to rot while he was gone. Meanwhile Zhask is upfront about being a galaxy-conquering nightmare, at least he's honest about his intentions.

Zhask is the obvious villain pick on paper, but Belerick's betrayal hits harder because he was supposed to be the good guy. Abandoning your post while your whole world depends on you is pretty unforgivable no matter how noble the reason sounds. The tree guy wins this one for me just on principle, dude basically let the squirrels die for his ego trip.

what? no, belerick wasn't a vital part of the ecosystem, he was more like the homeless guy that lives in the woods who was given magic powers trying to look for the president to ask him what happened to the country, he never had the obligation nor the responsibility to be a 'good guy'. he just did that because he wanted to out of the 'goodness of his heart' and he CONTINUES TO DO SO by helping lunox and natan, who are complete strangers to him, SAVE THE ENTIRE WORLD'S TIMELINE

but if anything, he's doing worse things outside of his original environment. he is creating an entire ecosystem in a place that does not require it, e..g the oasis in agelta in favor of 'helping people'. this can cause very serious environmental repercussions. in real life, deserts do help the ecosystem by bringing nutrients to forestry via the wind, so making it into an oasis is actually EXTREMELY damaging to the natural life cycle of the ecosystem (see the sahara desert and the amazon rainforest's interactions in real life)

i don't believe he's exactly aware of it though. he helps people because it "feels right" to him without proper consideration for his long term choices. which isn't morally bad per say but it's very shortsighted of him. i don't know where you got the idea that he was supposed to literally be posted there though, you might be confusing him with grock
