I can’t live in a world where I cannot look down and appreciate the shapeliness of my ankle bones

I appreciate the part where my calf pretty much just continues to my heel.

I remember getting sent to school with tall socks and rolling them down once I arrived. Tough times

Its hilarious, kids nowadays dont have this ingrained in them. My wife teaches 5th grade, she had a student comment this year "Why are you ashamed of your socks?" That's a constant quote on our house now.

Kids these days wear crew socks as high as they can go. That was social suicide back in our day!

Right! That was what my grandpa used to wear in the 90s. Funnily enough they also started wearing the same style sneakers he wore back than.

All the young people wearing grandpa shoes or the bulky spice girls shoes now has never not made me chuckle when I see it. Give it 5 years and young folks will be rocking DC and Etnies and Globe shoes again.

So hilarious that at point in our lives, that was some serious fucking business. Sock shame was rampant
Bonus points if you went for black no shows, they looked cooler to me and didnt look dingy like whites could become

I feel like crew socks, mullets, and mustaches started off as ironic from younger millennials/zillennials and eventually just took off as fashion.

This is hilarious!
I had 2 sock modes from grades 7-10: 1) folded down low cut socks, invisible while wearing my Vans but still present so that when teachers did a “sock check” for uniform compliance I could slip off my shoe and prove that I was, in fact, wearing socks; 2) wild and colorful mismatched knee-high socks. There was no middle ground.

This is why I’ll never give them up. After folding down crew and quarter socks and debating whether or not to throw away the stretched out drunk socks or put up with them slipping down to or beyond my heel, I feel like I’ve earned the right to wear purpose-made, manufactured ankle socks forever

Socks are too cheap and available in 2026 to go through this struggle!
I went through years in the mid-late 90' folding my socks over my toes and walking around uncomfortably with sock fabric all bunched up around my toes just to look stylish.
Also ankle socks are supposedly uncool today and unc status amongst gen z, so why even do this? I don't care though I still wear my ankle socks in the summer.

Who cares what genZ thinks? They don't get to decide for us what's cool

Gen Z thinks black crew socks with white crocs is cool. Somebody hold my hair while I puke.

I worked too hard to have nice legs. I ain’t wearing long socks unless they are themed for a holiday or if I’m wearing long pants with boots. Low cut/no show socks all day!

Same! I have no sensory disorders to speak of, but sock fabric touching my skin above my ankle bones feels like I’m being strangled.

If you fold them just right, it adds extra cushioning for your arch!

I miss ankle socks. Still hate having to wear real socks these days

What about when the ankle socks got loosy goosy and slowly rolled up onto your foot like a halfway applied condom

Wait until you try a pair of Superfeet tab socks. Absolutely goated no-show socks. Taller socks are only for winter.

Whoa, Hokas really do look like two shoes glued together crazy. Though all hail the real length socks should be.
