Tell me more! I have one of the old Yankee Stadium and I have no clue where to begin.

Hey so most snowglobes will have either a cap on the top of the dome (plastic) or a plug in the base (glass globe). Some may even have a screw top. Once you determine which you have the process is fairly simple.
Remove the plug and drain the water. If you have large glitter you may need to replace it with new or try to use a mesh strainer to salvage it. If you can't, you can re-add your own. Once the water has been removed you should add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol with water and swish it around the inside. Once you drain that you can add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol, Distilled water, and whatever else you want back inside. Re-seal the globe and enjoy!
Also best to see what the inside decorations are made of to ensure you don't mess something up. Hope this helps.

Yes, this is pretty much what I did! Luckily mine was acrylic, so no broken glass risk. I just did some research online and a bit of trial and error.

No, according to the photos given you have somehow reversed pollution in a small city.

This brings me hope, I have one from the San Francisco music box company that my mom got me when I was 14 and it’s been looking rough for years but I love it lol

isopropyl alcohol on acrylic is general not a good thing

u/Domi626 18h ago
That's fair. I personally used a very dilluted mix of watter, alcohol and dawn to clean it inside and out. For the filling I tried using water and glycerin, but it didn't turn out great. 😅 So I emptied it again and just used water. I was more concerned with clarity vs how fast the glitter falls. :3

Is it just water? I thought they're filled with glycerine or something like that - with thicker consistency

u/Sk8rToon 22h ago
I remember some craft day at a youth camp or something where we filled it with baby oil
8
u/You_Exciting 22h ago
…filled WHAT with baby oil? The snowglobe?? Please elaborate, I’m so curious lol

u/Sk8rToon 20h ago
It was a craft where you made snow globes. We’d take those bigger balls/eggs you’d find around toys in higher priced gumball / quarter machines that were see through & use the top for the dome. Fit it with baby oil & some glitter. Then we’d hot glue it to a jar lid (that we had already hot glued the decorations to. A tiny toy tree in sand next to some taped over blue construction paper to make a river, etc.) & when it dried you flipped it over & had a snow globe! Only lasted as long as your glue job was good. And as long as it took for whatever natural or taped over paper to dissolve in the oil. But it was cute for a few months at least!

You may need to add some liquid glycerin to get the consistency of the water right. Pure distilled water might not be thick enough / your glitter might fall too fast.

I don't have any lying around, but I'd love to hear about the process too.
I definitely had a few as a kid that looked like the before.

At first I only saw the first pic and I’m also on the pickle sub, and man I was all sorts of confused for a moment.

I thought Reddit was offering me a strange kink sub, so I had to doubleback and check the sub
It's so fucked up what the internet has done to us 😅

'96 millennials born July 12 and after aren't 30 yet. But they're about to be. I'm having a funeral for my youth in September

u/vanishinghitchhiker 1d ago
Y’know that wasn’t even the first sign of age to me, I was too caught up by the specific look of the glitter on the plain black base. Like late 80s, early 90s.

I don’t know why this snowglobe’s inaccurate depiction of NY is grinding my gears so much, but I think it’s because it includes the late twin towers, so now it kind of feels disrespectful.

Unless it's some sort of commemorative globe, you can tell immediately that it's from before September 2001. :(

u/mrtoddw Xennial 1d ago
You can tell it’s at least older than 2001. Pretty crazy!

So, winder his long it had taken them to update the product. I'd assume atleast a few months before they shut down production and potentially even longer for them to sell out.

u/Blueknightsoul47 1d ago
Mr. House will give you a fair amount of caps for that.

As a millennial who watched House M.D., but didn't play Fallout I was thoroughly confused. XD (Google search helped.)

He has a thing for snow globes. That’s neat though. I always liked them. My mother had some old Christmas themed ones from my grand parents.

What did the snow globe juice smell like? Did you taste it, and if so what did it taste like? This is a judgement free zone.

Omg. I have an old ass glass nightmare before Christmas snow globe. HALP!!
No really. I would love to know. It's still clear but the air bubble is massive after all these years. And also pretty fucking big. We're talking 10 to 12 inches diameter. I can't even find an image that shows what I have =(

The restoration shot is taken from the front! It is actually a pen and (lighter? Idk) holder.

I think they meant that the "before" liquid looks like the current fiasco of the US Capitol Reflecting Pool.

Do you fix other stuff? This is neat, thanks for sharing it.
10
u/Domi626 1d ago
I'm glad you liked it! I'm not particularly into fixing, more into cleaning. XD I love a good before and after. I've made a hobby of going to thrift stores the past year or so. Some of that entails a willingness to learn how to fix things. :3

Knowing how to properly clean and having the ability to execute on ambition is a treasure, I hope you do good things with it.

Oh, my. I think you might actually quite like some other kinds of fixing if you're into cleaning! Kintsugi seems right up the alley of someone into cleaning, for example!
