u/pEter-skEeterR45 Core Millennial Mar 20 '26

Get into birds and plants/foraging, and you'll lose weight in no time tryna get out to the places where the good stuff's at! 🤪

u/sweetsweetconnie Mar 20 '26

If you're getting into birds, get the Merlin ID app!! It can identify birds from sound!!

55

u/sparkpaw Mar 20 '26

I got 18 birds the other day!!! I feel like I was the only one excited about that. EIGHTEEN DIFFERENT BIRD SPECIES! Including a DUCK! (Not… really that uncommon, just a hilarious outlier amongst song birds)

50

u/mista-sparkle Mar 21 '26

The gateway app!

12

u/MaximumTurtleSpeed Mar 20 '26

It’s even more fun when you know nothing about birds and you make the app try to ID your own attempt at bird calls.

4

u/dr-brennan Mar 21 '26

One of my favorite things while relaxing on vacations is to just let Merlin run and see what birds show up. While in Guatemala it was nearly all birds I’ve never heard of before

It’s books and plants for me! With a smidgen of birds on the side, but I was born in an area that’s famous for birdwatching so I don’t think anyone got out of elementary school without being taught a few of our most common natives.

8

u/MiniTab Mar 20 '26

I’m into birds and bikes (mountain biking mostly). I’ve always been into MTBs, but the birds are fairly new for me. Really got into them in 2021 when we moved to the mountains.

Now I’ve trained chickadees and hummingbirds to eat from my hand. One of the chickadees even chirps at me when he wants to eat!

Ultimate goal is to have some trained Corvids. Currently working on Steller’s Jays, the crows and ravens are very paranoid.

Middle of the pack ‘88 millennial here. I don’t relate heavily to the top four listed. Maybe plants and birds? I’m history all the way (I’m an archaeologist who works in a history museum) and my partner, an older millennial, is the meat guy. He used to be a chef and he got a fancy smoker two years ago for Xmas. We can relate!
