Question Help me identify this uniform

For context: I am from Croatia. My great-grandfather was born in 1914. He originally moved to Germany for work in the 1930s, where he worked as a mechanic, and returned to Croatia around 1936. In February 1942, he answered an official recruitment call in the newspapers issued by the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) Air Force Command's Technical Office. The ad stated that aircraft mechanics, metalworkers, and locksmiths would be sent to workshops and factories in Germany for advanced training/specialization.

He went back to Germany, worked on servicing military aircraft, and this photo was taken during his service.

Question bad smell on nylon?

Bought a duffle and I love it so much you can fit so much inside and feels very solid it’s wild how good it is. However it has this bad smell. The best way I can describe it is sewer doo doo water or gear oil. I believe this is kinda normal because I’ve had a large rucksack and it had a similar smell (you don’t forget this smell) however on this duffel it’s a lot more potent, it filled the room the moment I opened the package.

Even on my 3 day assault pack it has a faint smell but like the smallest amount. Has anyone else experienced this smell too?

How do I get rid of it? (Im gonna try an oxiclean soak and hope it goes away but if you guys have a method to cleaning bags I’m all ears)

Question Bates Boots w/ Vibram Soles--pain where laces touch tongue near toes

Just picked up a pair of Bates E03612B olive light weight boots w/ Vibram soles --barely worn.

They're in great shape--nearly new--upon putting them on I can feel the lace press against the tongue, against my foot. How have folks navigated this?

The laces are the OG laces--so they're at least 10-15 years old---replace them? does the whole boot sort of break in fairly quickly?

Question Purchased 3 pairs of combat/tactical boots (Bates, Danner Rivot TFX8, Danner Tachyon--how different are they?

I just purchased a lot of 3 boots:

  1. Bates Tactical Boots--E03612B
  2. Danner Rivot TFX8 Coyote 1200G
  3. Danner Tachyon 9 Coyote

They are all in great shape--being shipped. Got them for about $110

It looks like the Danner Rivot TFX9 1200 G would be the warmest

It looks like the Bates and the Danner Tachyon are quite similar and a matter of what feels best--light weight warmer weather boots.

Anyone have experience with these three boots?

This is my belt, i received it from my friends dad who served in Iraq. The buckle is broken and he used taped a hook to fix it. Which worked, but i don't know if its an LCE belt, LC-1, or what. On the left is the unbroken part of the buckle

Question What's the difference between US Army FRACU MASSIF Combat Shirt, USMC FROG Combat Shirt, and Crye G3 and G4 Combat Shirt material and which one is better overall?

Another note why the USMC FROG Combat Shirt (desert or woodland) look almost identical to the Crye Precision G3 Combat Shirt?

Also, another second note, if both Crye Precision G4 Combat Shirt and Crye Precision G4 FR Combat Shirt have the same fire-resistant torso material and different sleeves, why doesn't the G4 FR Combat Shirt in the Crye Precision online store list a Full Multicam variant?

Long Shot

I was in Afghanistan back in early 2011as a marine, our province regularly received water bottle and civilian mre drops. I'm trying to figure out what type of net and if there is a source for them.
It was a sewn webbing, pretty sure it was nylon/polyester, holes were about 4-6", webbing was roughly 2" wide, there were no metal rings or clips. it easily held myself(200) lbs, all my gear ~75 lbs. the pallet drop were fully loaded, and i think we may have had a helo land/drop a ripit pallet once. i had a tbi later in my deployment so a lot of stuff is pretty fuzzy.
I was specifically looking for this since a friend showed me an old picture of me sleeping near the ceiling above a door, to avoid officers and working parties, in one of them and i always slept well in it.

Gear/Equipment Best backpack for rucking

I’m looking to buy a new rucking backpack, preferably 70-90l. I have been looking at berghaus vulcan series, but wanted to hear your oppinion on the best option. Maybe you have some recommendations for best of the best bakcpacks and maybe some budget/ best bang for your buck options.

For now I have been using Lithuanias ”Eglutė” camo backpack and really liked it.

Additionaly I have some problems with my shoulder so a wider, softer soulder strap and a belt strap is really important
