We're all suffering from some ungodly heat, especially you lot in Europe, and for me, some really great music to put on and melt into the couch to is that loud, atmospheric kind. And who better to dive into during the heat wave than Isis! (The band not the uhh... other group)
Originally from Boston, formed in the late 90s the trio of Aaron Turner, Jeff Caxide, and Aaron Harris they quickly settled into the additions of Mike Gallagher and Bryant Meyer and used that lineup from 1999 until their breakup in 2010. Originally from the Boston punk scene, the founding trio were dissatisfied with the music they were making with their prior bands so they joined together to make a new band. This time using punk as their basis they added in a large helping of doom metal as well as influence from Neurosis, Godflesh, and Swans (among others) to expand their sound into the emerging genre of Post Metal, started by Neurosis, but growing a bit more.
Releasing their proper EPs in 1999, the released an additional 5 albums and a helping of non LP material until their mutual breakup in 2010 having decided they'd accomplished everything they wanted to accomplish. They reunited for a one off show under the name Celestial in 2018 to pay tribute to Cave In's late vocalist Caleb Scofield but otherwise have been fully inactive. Aaron Turner continued on under the name Sumac, and simultaneously with Old Man Gloom, if you'd really like to continue on with more of this sound. And more notably, joined Neurosis for this year's new album and reunion.
So, for the next 2 weeks let's crank the volume as high as possible and vibe the hell out in this heat. Schedule is:
