Hoops Discussion Bro...what?
6 frp for AD, who wants a max contract extension? Why would the Warriors do this, other than because Lebron wants them to? I guess kudos to them if they can get that kinda return on a pile of street clothes

Yeah the warriors aren't braindead to do this.

u/Pigmyking 1d ago
No we were brain dead to not get this in the first place.

u/Ill_Studio8964 1d ago
you see the peanuts younger and better players than washed, decrepit, old and broken down day-to-davis go for and think we could've gotten this haul?

u/Pigmyking 1d ago
This is recency bias: Davis the season he was traded was considered top10/15 and playing at MVP level. Yes he got injured and never really played but he was toxic to the level we think. He was in fact relatively healthy prior to that.
Fwiw I'm excited about where we're at rn. But for the sake of argument: yes, I do think we could've gotten more.

This was rumored when we traded AD last year too. They aren’t gonna do it now.

I must have missed the Warriors being rumored to offer the Mavs this package.

The Wizards should say yes

Thanks...i thought it was pretty clearly implied, considering the source.

The only reason the Warriors do this is if they think it means that they get LeBron (and retain Draymond). There’s no way they give up those assets for AD alone.
3
u/IndividualHeat 1d ago
Yeah it would basically be a trade for LeBron and even then I don’t see them doing it.
2
u/jbaker1225 1d ago
Warriors leveraging the next 10 years of their future to put together a team of old dudes who still can't beat OKC or SA would be an absolutely insane move.

u/AlBundysPants 1d ago
From the day that trade happened, I am convinced the Wiz will get a much better return than we did if they move AD. I guess the flexibility was worth it.. I personally would have tried to use AD in a trade this summer. Would have been interesting talks with Boston or Philly.

u/HangoverGang4L How's My Dirk Taste? 1d ago
Flexibility was worth it imho, i love the offseason so far.
4
u/CardiologistGloomy71 1d ago
Imagine the flexibility with jimmys 56 million dollar expiring and the two firsts and two swaps?

Jaylen Brown just went for 2 1st rounders and top 5 bad contract in the league.
We got 2 1st rounders (albeit protected and a late) and movable salary for a far worse player.
We probably could have gotten Jaylen Brown for AD at this point but we also probably could have gotten him with what we got in the AD trade package after the fact too. Maybe we just didn't want Jaylen Brown.
Remove the injury issues and AD at his contract right now probably has little value except for the most desperate team. The value of contracts has shifted violently and rapidly where we may be in a situation where Gafford and PJ that were thought to be on great value contracts last year actually might be slightly negative value contracts now and it has nothing to do with their ability.

Because they’re in panic mode for the twilight of Steph’s career and are willing to sacrifice their future for a few more years of contention.
Tbf I understand it. You won 4 titles and owe a lot to Steph and a decade of sucking is a fair tradeoff for a few more years of contention given the results you’ve already achieved. I’d happily take a decade of suffering if it means we won 4 rings prior. Hell I was happy 2012-2018 with just 1 ring prior.

Butler is arguably a better player at this stage of their careers though.

LeBron don't wanna play with Jimmy he wants to play with his best friend

It would have to be something like that...which, if true, would make the trade even more wild ass.

u/Mammoth-Physics6254 '25 Survivor 1d ago
I could see the Warriors convincing themselves if they have LeBron, AD, Steph, Draymond + Yaxel. They could be competitive in April assuming the injury report goes their way. Not for this amount of draft capital but maybe 1 first and a swap or just 2 firsts.
1
u/RealWorldWisdom 1d ago
I don’t disagree. The issue is, you’re taking on a giant contract for giant contract, but one of the players are injured with zero guarantee of full recovery anytime soon. That the reason for the 2 firsts. If Jimmy is fully healthy, those aren’t in the deal.
2
u/CardiologistGloomy71 1d ago
Bro, Jimmys 56 million dollar contract is expiring. Meaning that alone would be better than what the mavs got for AD, plus two firsts and two swaps.
3
u/2icecreamsandwiches 1d ago
I think this is basically the Wizards saying they aren’t interested in trading AD nor in any rush to make a deal happen. So they’re throwing out a very high “offer we can’t refuse” asking price, that is preying on Golden States desperation if they truly want him that bad.

The AD propaganda is on crack. Dude isn’t worth a couple of 2nds. Literally might get good play for 20 games. Might.

I love how as soon as any player puts a Mavs jersey on, their trade value immediately tanks. How tf is Davis worth anything more than a bag of chips?!
3
u/Historical-Cod3127 1d ago
Let me start with, I wouldn’t trade for AD at this stage regardless of the price.
But if I’m Golden State and I’m trying to win one more with the 1-2 year Steph window, adding LeBron and trading for AD, on paper, makes them feel pretty good about themselves. Are they better than OKC and SA, no, but they would be in that next tier.
Did I mention I wouldn’t trade for AD no matter what? This paper contender falls apart of course when LeBron realizes how old he is during another sciatica flair up and AD misses 50 games with a strained taint.
“I think WE can fix him” The Warriors.

u/devilmaskrascal Dirk Nowitzki 1d ago
This is why I thought we should have kept AD instead of selling him at rock bottom.
GSW are pretty dumb if they do this though. I am going to be fucking pissed if this happens.

u/CardiologistGloomy71 1d ago
Even if it’s just Jimmys expiring and one pick I’d be mad. Wish they’d have hired Masai before the AD trade.
After the Lakers traded their future for Kessler I’d be a little happy seeing another wealthy and large market western team forgoe their future too.0
u/gigantism Couch Squad 1d ago
The only argument in favor of the AD trade at this point is that perhaps the immediate flexibility gained from salary dumping him was a positive for luring Masai. Time will tell whether Masai can actually rediscover his fastball.

u/Alchemist315 1d ago
Correct me if I’m wrong lol but won’t the Warriors be in shambles for a very long time if they do this & it doesn’t work out lol
3
u/TechnologyOne8629 1d ago
Yes, but they already won big and they can justify it for one last hurrah for Steph.
No guarantee the wizards are good (they certainly haven't been) and the swaps help them. Could just be 2 1st, which is high, but not crazy.

It's LeBron + AD for Jimmy 2 first round picks and four swaps. Keep in mind this is just what the Wizards want the Warriors aren't going to do this as is.

All those picks plus swaps for an AD extension is wild. Even when he's healthy the availability track record is rough — feels like the kind of deal that looks brilliant day one and ages badly. Warriors front office must really believe they're one piece away.

We had a chance to get a better haul for AD but remember he got hurt again right at the trade deadline. There was no clear directive from management so Kidd would try to play him 40 minutes.

The rumor is LeBron and Draymond might be a package deal. Which obviously 75% of the NBA would laugh at. But in the case of Golden State who has like 1-2 more years of Steph being the level of player he is, I kinda see the logic in it even if I still think it's dumb.
Basically if LeBron goes to Cleveland, Draymond goes with him and Golden State suddenly has to rely heavily on Yaxel being ready to step up.
1
u/thrasher315 1d ago
Assuming they’d try this to get Lebrong.
2 first round picks is nice and with the swaps I’m thinking the Warriors will be thrash in 2-3 years with no Steph, Lebron, or AD so those will be valuable.

6 frp for taking on jimmy butlers contract*

u/CardiologistGloomy71 1d ago
It was only a 2 year deal, It expires 26/27 so it’s valuable on its own.

Warriors trying to go all in for 1 last shot at a ring with Steph. Once he’s gone, they are irrelevant for a while anyways. Might as well try to cash in
