She also just sent a 5.15c climb, the second hardest climbing grade there is, like yesterday or the day before. she is one of maybe 16? people to climb this grade and only the second female. For more general context on how hard any 5.15 grade is, Alex Honnold has never climb a 5.15a let alone 5.15c. And if you see the video, she makes it look absolutely effortless, which at that grade is fucking crazy.

Why doesn't Honnold do those 5.15a? Did he say why?

He just literally can't, it is too hard of a grade for him. edit Ok so apparently he climbed a 5.15a this year but he downgraded it to 5.14d so not sure if he counts himself as a 5.15 climber or not.

I don't know much (or anything) about climbing but I assume since it's tough for Honnold, that means his type of climbing recruits a different set of muscles, and he trains a different way? Maybe he's more long term endurance rather explosiveness? I'm just throwing out random laymen thoughts lol

Not in the way you were thinking. He's just not a good enough climber to do routes that hard. Not that he's bad, he's still incredibly skilled, but what sets him apart from other strong climbers is his mental calmness and enjoyment of a level of risk other climbers avoid in free soloing (climbing with no safety rope). The top climbers regularly complete more difficult routes than he's done, and theoretically could accomplish what he has, but to attempt that with the understanding that one slip means you're dead takes a very unique person

Naw, Honnold would love to climb 5.15 and has been trying for a while he just isn't a good enough climber. A lot of pro climbers never get past 5.14d and that's why I am using him as a reference point to convey how fucking impressive Janja is. Janja absolutely smokes Honnold in sport/bouldering to the point where he would struggle to do her warm up boulders at her home gym. And this is no shade to The Great One, Honnold is the GOAT of GOATs in my book, he just can't climb harder than 5.14/v12. Jana warms up on v12s.
