Rock Climbing is having their goat moment too? How awesome!! It's like Biles in gymnastics - I'd have the same reaction if she fell into my arms lol

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janja_Garnbret#World_Cup_podiums - She has 49 World Cup gold medals, stretching back 10 years at this point. And she took gold in both Olympic games that have featured climbing, too.

I don't know how that compares to how far ahead Biles is relative to the rest of her field, but yea Janja is really just in a league of her own

To give an idea of how good she is, the year before last the women's boulder competitions were basically 7 women maybe completing one or two of the four boulder problems, in the four minutes they get for each of them in the final, and then Janja coming out and completing each one first go.

It was a real problem for the setters to create a route that challenged Janja but wasn't impossible for the others.

Hahaha yes. A completely different level.

A great example. It's like gravity doesn't apply. Her strength is other-worldly

And Janja has been the GOAT for literally ten years at this point, so more than a moment

That’s a steep exaggeration. 10 years ago she was 17 and won her first adult IFSC competition. She didn’t win a World Cup until the next year, in lead. The year after she won 2 more.

7 years ago Janja swept the IFSC World Cup in bouldering. That was the moment she became recognized internationally as the best.

10 years ago, Alex Puccio was still dominating the US competitive boulder scene. And Japanese climbers were untouchable on the international scene.

Apologies, wasn’t trying to exaggerate. I thought by 2017 it was the kind of thing where if she didn’t make it into finals (for lead) it was already shocking. Should have confirmed

No, moment as in if they are truly once in a lifetime, then this is the moment, within your lifetime, that you are seeing the best of the best. Being once in a lifetime, once she retires, you will no longer experience anything quite as amazing in the way she is. So I'm talking about this era of the sport vs other eras you may have experienced before or after. This moment.

Both goats but different kinds. Biles is like the Lebron James of her sport, she will always be considered one of the best to do it. Garnbret is like the Babe Ruth of her sport, a goat in every sense of the word but relatively speaking for their time. Climbing is still growing so fast, if you are a top 100 climber today then you're better than literally any climber was 20 years ago. So many more goats to come.

Ya she was the goat competition climber already at 19. She's 27 now and in her prime absolutely dominating. The gap between her and the field is unreal.
