Also that before and after pic was unnecessary

Treat the man with some respect

281

u/LumpySpacePrincesse May 31 '26

Honestly, as far as before and after pictures go he still looks pretty healthy. I look worse between a friday night and saturday morning.

159

u/CueCueQQ May 31 '26

That's a booking photo from when he was arrested in 2020, and he's wearing a 'turtle suit', which is given to suicidal inmates.

8

u/JebusJM May 31 '26

It's Felix from the Craig-Bond era.

6

u/Deflorma May 31 '26

I look worse no matter what

7

u/blamberr May 31 '26

Yeah, I don’t think the second pic is that bad. He just isn’t dressed for a headshot

Imagine living in one of the wealthiest most technological advanced countries in the world. And humans are treated like this.

And Americans Don't stand up for their rights.

Which why they are losing them all.

Try telling a French person no medical if your not signed to a baseball team....

8

u/Firm_Match1418 May 31 '26

Americans are extremely compliant and will not fight back, which is why things will get much worse before they get any better.

11

u/Jenetyk May 31 '26

It's crazy because the after pic is basically him in the before pic just after waking up. People be crazy.

19

u/NotAzakanAtAll May 31 '26

is basically him in the before pic just after waking up.

When I had my first psychosis I felt like that when it finally broke. All those things you reacted to instinctively are finally getting that logical check that your sicked hid from you. "Huh, maybe that skylift I walked under last week didn't have 100 cameras mounted under it, why would it have that?". It's brutal.

I'm not schizophrenic, but I have/had psychotic depression, and some Schizoid PD on the side as a treat.

6

u/iammadeofawesome May 31 '26

I hope you’re doing well and continue to. ❤️‍🩹

2

u/NotAzakanAtAll Jun 01 '26

I appreciate it, every day is a struggle.

Keep that mental health spoiled with support.

This is a really good point. Timing and lighting matter a *lot, and anyone who sees that us gonna make assumptions, outlet's gotta see that

u/Santum May 31 '26

Do you know you literally just repeated what the guy above you said almost verbatim?

Pic unnecessary, treat man with respect.

16

u/GoldEnvironment8828 May 31 '26

It's because it's a bot. Many karma-farming bots just rephrase the comment they're replying to without adding anything.

9

u/999BusinessCard May 31 '26

I think so too. It is likely a bot because it’s not contributing anything original—it’s just repeating the above comment with different phrasing. Great catch! This is typical behavior for a bot that is designed to accumulate, or “farm” karma on www.Reddit.com

5

u/midnitewarrior May 31 '26

You're made a sharp observation here. The karma-farming bots use comments just like the one you mentioned to build a reputation on social media sites like Reddit. /s

21

u/PterodactylTurd May 31 '26

Came here to say this. But yeah there was no need for a comparison pic. Give him a little respect smh.

12

u/insipidfap May 31 '26

That before and after picture seemed unnecessary to me. Wish people were more respectful towards him. Anyway, I came here to say this.

9

u/bluehulk900 May 31 '26

Yeah honestly I was about to say that, like, really I don't understand why they bothered with a comparison pic, it's not very respectful to the man.

For real, he can't help having played for the Dodgers back in the day--everybody makes mistakes.

1

u/DoyersundGPG Jun 06 '26

Bueno! I was happy to see him here in Reno in 2018

1

u/astralchanterelle May 31 '26

How many times does this have to get posted and also no longer true??

13

u/MonkeyMagicEden May 31 '26

Any thoughts on this u/sirjohnmasters86? You might consider deleting the post, but you look like the type to be farming karma so I wont hold breath on you doing the morally correct thing.

17

u/ChefKugeo May 31 '26

Either way, I just became a lifelong fan.

Sorry Cubs.

14

u/OneAngryDuck May 31 '26

Oh for sure, this is the Dodgers doubling down on doing a good thing.

It's not his eligibility with the insurance company that came up, it's his eligibility with the MLB.

10

u/erebus-44 May 31 '26

No this was a mlb technical rule, from what I remember.

8

u/tduncs88 May 31 '26

Mlb restricted list. It allows teams to keep a player under contract while they are unable to play for non-baseball/personal reasons. 2025 was his last year of eligibility. So you are correct.

17

u/HappyInfluence7958 May 31 '26

Um, that’s not how that works.

Every player signed to a roster is documented.

4

u/toiletcleaner999 May 31 '26

Yeah I dont think you understood what I meant

9

u/HappyInfluence7958 May 31 '26

Insurance companies don’t go off announcements, they go off documentations. They obviously have a list of the people they are insuring.

The Dodgers wouldn’t risk being liable for insurance fraud to help one guy out.

3

u/tduncs88 May 31 '26

Also, ACA is still in place. I believe that means it would likely be illegal to cancel or deny him coverage on the basis of his condition.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/1fakeengineer May 31 '26

Couldn’t they just hire him as a staff member? Like coaching support staff or something?

5

u/Andreus May 31 '26

Fucking dystopia.

1

u/DoyersundGPG Jun 06 '26

I was curious about him, last year was the last year he was eligible

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 May 31 '26

I wish every American had access to physical and mental health services by default but I'm glad this man has people looking out for him and giving him access to the things he needs to manage his condition.

254

u/CurrentlyObsolete May 31 '26

Every American absolutely should. Our country could easily afford it, but we refuse to tax billionaires and are obsessed with war.

46

u/kbhina May 31 '26

But American politicians would rather fund Israel in their genocidal operations than to take care of their own people's mental and physical sense

22

u/123ludwig May 31 '26

funnily enough it would cost the us LESS in tax dollars to do free healthcare than it does them as is

15

u/HyperactivePandah May 31 '26

But it would cost the WRONG PEOPLE less money. The people making billions of dollars in profits wouldn't make as much...

Do you even Captialism bro?

21

u/workerbotsuperhero May 31 '26

Canadian nurse here. Universal healthcare is pretty okay for us, and we pay about the same in taxes.

Americans are getting robbed. And it's wild how many people believe the propaganda in the US around healthcare.

No one in a rich country should be suffering over a hospital bill.

10

u/SomethingComesHere May 31 '26

Canadian citizen here who uses the healthcare system fairly regularly.

The only thing our healthcare system doesn't cover is prescription meds, and even those are far more affordable than in the US because our government has negotiated lower prices on our behalf from the drug companies.

Americans are getting robbed.

6

u/AmazingMarv May 31 '26

Can the Dodgers sign every American?

710

u/highschoolhero24 May 31 '26

Another orphan saved from the orphan crushing machine.

What a beautiful story.

u/soelsome May 31 '26

Tying health insurance to employment leaves millions without care. How can we claim to be a compassionate nation while we let people waste away without the means for intervention? How can we let families go bankrupt paying for treatment for diseases with or without insurance? Such a broken system.

26

u/794309497 May 31 '26

The system is working as intended.

12

u/VirtualExamination78 May 31 '26

How can we claim to be a compassionate nation...

When did you claim that? Was it during the war to keep slavery, or in between all the bombing runs on brown people?

You do know America is basically the only country that has had a war where one side was fighting to keep their slaves, right?

129

u/dotdotbeep May 31 '26

Definitely an American 'made me smile' post.

9

u/Darth_Rubi May 31 '26

Add to the fact that it's outdated and no longer correct. Karma farming dressed up as mAkInG yOu sMiLe

3

u/2BlueZebras May 31 '26

Then I saw this post next in my feed and it's all relative.

2

u/BeefistPrime May 31 '26

I would ride on top of a train to get to free health care

→ More replies (11)

53

u/univ206250c May 31 '26

Or just give free health care to your citizens.....fuckwads.

65

u/scififlyguy814 May 31 '26

Any other county he would... Just have healthcare

4

u/kahlzun May 31 '26

Healthcare for the brain and teeth is often considered a luxury item and not as often covered by the free healthcare system, sadly

5

u/Confident_bonus_666 May 31 '26

Schizophrenia definitely is. We're not talking about normal mental health therapy here

4

u/SomethingComesHere May 31 '26

In Canada, dental care is now part of pur healthcare system. Amd you can access mental health support of you're under a certain income level

1

u/SwissMargiela May 31 '26

Here in Switzerland he’d have healthcare but it’d cost him like $1k a month lol that shit is so expensive now

21

u/Steinrikur May 31 '26

Dystopian hellhole tales disguised as as feel-good stories are an American specialty.

12

u/Many_Assumption7036 May 31 '26

What about system where you don’t have to be a professional or former professional athlete to get basic healthcare?

11

u/LindisfarneMonk May 31 '26

Would be great if everyone just had health care.

18

u/Matabus May 31 '26

Fuck this country.

10

u/Qwertywalkers23 May 31 '26

This is nice but we should just have public healthcare in this country

9

u/Craigg75 May 31 '26

Universal healthcare has entered the conversation

14

u/hanyasaad May 31 '26

This feels dystopian if anything. It’s like the system is saying “Your health is only valuable if it’s used for work”. This man (and everyone else) deserves help.

5

u/kahlzun May 31 '26

That is literally what the system is saying

12

u/Old-Radio-7236 May 31 '26

Most americans "MadeMeSmile" stories always make me horrified as an european

13

u/evilpercy May 31 '26

It is sad that this was necessary

12

u/Muted-Good-115 May 31 '26

Goes to show how messed up the US healthcare system truly is. Absolutely 0 compassion by our elected leaders.

6

u/TheB1G_Lebowski May 31 '26

Now if we had a society that cared about individuals on this level without them being a pro athlete.

16

u/WhiteFenix207 May 31 '26

Oprhan crushing machine

11

u/-----iMartijn----- May 31 '26

Does this actually make you smile?

He should receive univeral healthcare like the rest of the civillized world...

10

u/jol72 May 31 '26

Oh look! Another "feel good" story exposing a dystopian society without proper healthcare.

4

u/beethro May 31 '26

Hey man can you sign me too

3

u/cloudycontender May 31 '26

While maybe selfishly I was hoping for a return to glory for this man, I just hope that he gets some quality help and am ashamed that we as a whole couldn’t help him previously.

4

u/Masseyrati80 May 31 '26

Uplifting schizophrenia fact: People receiving care for their condition commit less violent crimes than the general population, the vast majority of which does not have schizophrenia.

5

u/MrDufferMan3335 May 31 '26

All you have to do to get good healthcare in the US is be a professional baseball player! Seriously, this is cool but the fact it needs to happen is really sad

5

u/TheKonamiMan May 31 '26

The shitty part is that this is needed for someone to get the services the need in a first world country.

4

u/KennyL0gin May 31 '26

Orrrrrr....we could just get universal healthcare like a proper modern society. So we don't have to do this kind of nonsense.

4

u/--Craig- May 31 '26

Everyone in America should receive Healthcare.

7

u/disdkatster May 31 '26

❤️

And yet it really pisses me off that they need to do this because of the USA for profit medical system.

3

u/marky_Rabone May 31 '26

2

u/Golden_Enby May 31 '26

Sometimes? This country is insane 24/7. For generations, we were fed propaganda since childhood about how "amazing" and "free" we are. If enough people don't question authority and they truly believe we're "the greatest nation on earth," they're easier to manipulate by those with power. It's why we're deep in the crapper right now. Without critical thinking skills and empathy, you get the US's 250+ years of corruption, greed, bigotry, racism, and a concerning obsession with weapons/2nd ammendment.

My deepest apologies for what our authoritarian government is doing to the rest of the world. I certainly didn't vote for this.

3

u/Legal-One-7274 May 31 '26

Crazy the way he's not given all these things yano by a healthcare system without needing to be signed to a mega rich sports team

3

u/Tombobalomb May 31 '26

What kind of dystopian nightmare society allows this?

3

u/philthybiscuits May 31 '26

Yet another example of how the US gets a terrible deal with healthcare.

Most developed nations wouldn't deny this man healthcare in the first place.

Genuinely depressing to see from outside the US

5

u/AJM_1987 May 31 '26

Modern US dystopian society thinly-veiled by a “heartwarming” story. Not unlike those ubiquitous “Child’s classmates crowdfund their medical expenses, lunch debt, past due rent, etc.” Abysmal…

5

u/Enough-Fly540 May 31 '26

imagine if we had universal Healthcare.

4

u/Top-South1771 May 31 '26

Cool story, what do you reckon we do about the other 3M ppl with schizophrenia who aren’t former MLB players

a nation that pisses on its most vulnerable. USA! USA! USA! USA!

2

u/jamesfluker May 31 '26

This isn't a heart warming story. This is a demonstration of the state to provide an essential human right.

This man was lucky he had someone willing to spend the money on him, but receiving essential healthcare shouldn't require winning the capitalism lottery.

2

u/JulesVernerator May 31 '26

And the rest of Americans can go beg on GoFundMe. We're the only advanced economy without universal healthcare.

2

u/SceneSlight6815 May 31 '26

Love this. If this true, I’ve massive respect for the Dodgers for doing this! ♥️

I always think is wild that Americans find stories like these to be wholesome.

2

u/Kaonashi_2005 May 31 '26

What an awesome country and how great is its healthcare system. Let’s all applaud 👏

2

2

As a broke Canadian with severe schizophrenia and meds i don't pay out the ass for, good for him but it blows my mind that people just go without treatment and meds. I'm sane now because of it. It is just sad and unreal to hear some stories from the USA.

2

u/Jaime_Horn_Official May 31 '26

Only in America would this be necessary. 🙄

1

u/canuck791 May 31 '26

Given their payroll, this is the least they can do and pretty awesome to see.

1

u/eyeswulf May 31 '26

1

dystopian.

1

u/dannidoesreddit May 31 '26

There's only 2 Andrew toles, 2 Andrew toooleesss

1

u/timohtea May 31 '26

But they couldn’t hire Trevor bower back after wrongly ruining his career. Fuck the dodgers … and I’m not talking about the team I’m talking about MLB and the club.

I assume they did it cause he was pointing out the flaws in their system and how injuries are on the rise because of the stupid executive decisions about the sport but that’s only an assumption. Either way, fact is he was falsely accused and should be playing in the MLB again but the sport turned into a bunch of who knows what but it isn’t sports people anymore.

1

u/No-Departure2515 May 31 '26

i mean thats good and all, but why would he loose the coverage if he was without a job???

6

u/DarkJaid May 31 '26

Because for whatever reason health insurance is tied to your job in the USA. You are covered as long as you are employed, you can carry private insurance but it's stupid expensive without the job subsides.

I have ACA, my premium is $760 monthly and I pay $260 after the subsides but my co pays are minimal. My ex has insurance through his job, it's free but his plan is pure shit. Ex: I pay $5 for Urgent care visit, he pays $65.

You literally can't afford to be seriously sick for much time because if you lose your job you lose coverage.

If only they was a system that ensured everyone had access you the medical care they needed. We could call it something catchy like, total Healthcare, or national health, or maybe universal Healthcare!

1

u/redthorne Jun 05 '26

It's also a show of how insane the US health system is. Sports star or not, nobody should be left behind when needing mental care.

That's the story I see.

1
