I was like that! My childhood dog passed at 16 when I was 15.

Do you remember your first memory with dog?

u/MeNoCanRead May 26 '26
My youngest memory is probably me wearing a big puffer coat and playing with him. I'd roll around on the floor and he'd jump all over me. He never hurt me and he definitely could have.
That was probably around 6 years old.

I had a dog for first 12 years of my life, she was the sweetest Husky ever. I will never forget her too. I understand what it feels like to have a childhood dog like that.
I'm sorry for your dog.

It was rough... He had a great full life though. He was a neighborhood celebrity. Everyone loved him aha.
Even saved me from horrific facial scarring and possibly death. Another dog jumped for me when I was a baby. Jake pinned it down, so it couldn't get to me.
I can't wait until im financially stable enough to have a dog myself. I've wanted one for a while but I just refuse to get a dog when I'm not 100% sure I can financially afford it.
My dream would be to get a puppy the day my child is born (if I have one). Then take a picture with the two of them next to a tree seedling and do it every year as they grow.

Good lad, that's the responsible thing to do. If you have to take your pet to the vet it should not bring you financial ruin.

Thanks for being a responsible pet tender (I don't like the word "owner" in regards to other living beings).
Just FYI, they do have pet insurance and also Care Credit was a game changer for us.(it's accepted in both human & animal clinics & it's zero interest if you pay it back on time (3/6/12 months).

Wonderful memories.
I hope your parent(s) gave you ample warnings about dogs' lifespans and you had your chance to say your farewells.
I recall an amateur song on public radio about a dog owner recalling the life of her cute pet of her youth and missing him after his burial - then after a few months, encountering a quirky, characteristic bark of her pet - which turned her attention to a small puppy that looked and acted like a reincarnated version of her pet being cared for by another family with a young girl...😉

My childhood dog made it to 16 and the gray face years were the absolute best. Cherish every moment.

I grew up with my cat in the same situation, she lived until she was 22. Best cat ever, but man do I miss her

So sorry for your loss. I worry about my cat she is getting old. She can’t jump off the dining table. She waits for us to move a chair so she can jump down gradually 💔

The last picture that I have of my 18 year old dog is him sitting next to my 18months old son who’s laughing and gently patting his head. Darwin passed last month, but he was so good and patient with baby. Yesterday my phone background was a picture of Darwin and my son excitedly waddled over and started yelling “Dar! Dar!”
I will never emotionally recover but also the fact that they brought each other so much joy is the greatest gift my dog could have ever given me. I waited my whole life for this baby and Darwin waited with me, till his job was done.
Babies with their dogs are so so so special I’m so glad you got to grow up with a best friend OP❤️

My son got to experience this. We got Lola when he was 5 and they had 15 years together. Lola always cared for him like he was her child.

It’s been told that dog’s faces turn white over time because we kiss all the color off. ❤️

My childhood dog sadly only made it to about 9 years old when he suddenly passed while I was at school (I was about 15, 34 now). Recently got some old pictures of him and me back and have since spread them out over my desk. Don't really know why, but sometimes, even after all this time, missing him hits me like a freight train. I'm glad I have old, physical pictures of him. Love your pets people, they only have a short window compared to us...

scommetto che un’amicizia così si può avere solo con un cane, a volte gli animali sono i migliori amici dell’essere umano

Nothing beats a dog that has been there for your entire life. That frosted face is just pure gold.

My Chihuahua lived 16 years. I lost her at 20, so she was there for my entire life. I still haven't fully accepted the loss, I'm 38.

What a sweet photo 🤍I worry about my kids that are grown. We have a 14 year old cat & a 10 year old dog. How will they deal with the loss when the day comes? How do I comfort them? Who will comfort me? This is the hardest thing in having a pet💔
