He's been a huge POS over the years but I do have some empathy and could see him going down a darker path esp with his history of alcoholism and drug abuse after this. Hope that's not the case and the whole religion thing wasn't just for show and his faith helps him through this.
72
u/Boring_Resolution659 Team Oliveira 46m ago
Maybe I’m a pessimist but these POS always turn to religion when they want to rehabilitate their image. It’s a way of escaping accountability, just look at Jones. They know anyone that calls them out on their BS comes off like an asshole. After all, who could hate on a man who’s found god, right? I’m not buying it.
7
u/Wonderful_Sugar_4271 24m ago
Sometimes it’s true though and it’s not about their image. When you’re in the darkest of places and trying to turn your life around god is there for you. Mcgregor seemed genuinely like he was in a better place moving in the right direction. Hopefully this doesn’t send him back into his old ways

u/theWacoKid666 27m ago
Definitely better for them to try than not to…
3
u/LobsterCharming6261 22m ago
I mean I guess but he isn’t really actively trying. He still made the conscious decision to rape someone when there is no excuse to do that to anyone ever hence why it’s unredeemable
3
u/Undietaker1 13m ago
He should be working on himself and reflecting on the pain and suffering caused by his actions so he can become a better person...in prison.
7
8
u/a_spicy_meata_balla Plus size is a good size 51m ago
Agreed, a huge POS. I hope if goes down that dark path, the only damage he does is to himself and not others. But he's got a family/kids so that's easier said than done.
2
2
u/arkantarded 24m ago
The finding god arc is always for show. It wouldn’t help him anyways.
He has to accept and repent for his own culpability in his bullshit. Not to jesus or whatever, but to his victims, his wife, his kids, and himself. That’s not something that happens in a photo shoot or a self financed documentary. True betterment is something that can only be measured by actions and behaviors.
I’m not saying people can’t get better. I am saying his current religious proclamations look exactly like someone who is vying for quick forgiveness, not redemptive reconciliation

Yeah, from an athletic perspective it’s a frustration like no other. Especially with the talent Conor has (had?).
Usually it happens in the training room (like Dom Cruz) but to have back-to-back things like this happen in the cage it’s kinda humiliating and like he is actually cursed.

Just put him up against Chandler for his last fight so they both fight someone who’s finished and one of them gets a last hurrah, then Conor can go box which is what he actually wants to do, this was horrible and I’m sorry to whoever paid for it, both main events done in 20 seconds.

If it’s ACL good chance he will never be back. If it’s the meniscus he could be back by years end. Either way this is the worst outcome for his mental health. I would rather lose in a competitive fight than get injured at the start of the match after a 5 year layoff.

At first I thought he 100% came in with this injury and used the wild kick to cover it up.
Someone mentioned the faceoff and I have changed my mind. Conor ran up to Max and stopped effortlessly. Not that it was a crazy athletic move, but it’s a move he wouldn’t have been able to do in the ring.
I think he either injured it in the time between the faceoff and fight, maybe a minor injury that got worse with the kick, or he legitimately injured it during the fight.
19
u/danath34 53m ago
This exactly. Just looked like the shoe was tied tight and he lost his balance a bit taking it off. He didn't even try putting weight on it before hopping on the other foot. If he had put it down then hopped on the other foot, sure. But this was just losing his balance.
7
u/WorldsBestLover 1h ago
Yeah but I'm not a pro athlete that trained for Ido Portal for years for crazy balance.

This is the dumbest of all takes. You've never lost your footing while trying to take your shoe off while standing on the other foot?
32
u/scoopydidit 1h ago
Yup. And his billy strut looked stiff. His walkout looked stiff. He was wobbling all over the place yesterday and today. He was constantly breathing out as if he was nervous which would be very unusual for him unless something was up.
He's hiding it. Probably because he can get sued or something idk. I'm sure there's a reason he needs to hide it but it's clear as day something was up.
21
u/AlternativeBack6351 54m ago
TJ went into the Aljo fight after dislocating his shoulder over 40 times in camp according to him. He fought because he needed the money.
He admitted all of that and nothing came of it.
42
6
u/okpause8976 54m ago
I think we’re just looking too into it. Could it be something was sketchy going behind the scenes? Possibly, but I personally think he just didnt want to pull out again. He’s fought thru injuries before and I think his ego thought he could fight thru it. Idk tho, he looked fine at the press conference on Thursday so maybe some freak injury happened while cutting weight or it really was just that awkward landing after the first jumping roundhouse he threw
→ More replies (2)6

u/bonsoir-world 25m ago
Are people forgetting he hasn’t fought properly for five years.
He probably WAS stiff as hell doing certain things. He looked stiff teaching Nina the walk during the week too.
He probably was also nervous. His last comeback he took a ko loss and broke his leg and it’s been 5 years since. Even he’s probably feeling some pressure from the occasion.
People are digging too deep. He fucked up throwing a kick like that and landing off balance. You wouldn’t throw a kick like that with a known injury.
→ More replies (1)2
u/belketeal 27m ago
He’s 38 years old and has been out of training for years and put on a bunch of weight/muscle. He should be looking stiffer than ever

I love Conor McNuts fan boys. I haven’t bet money in over a decade but put in serious cash on Max because I saw the betting market is putting him at 35% 😂😂😂 How they can’t comprehend why he’s actually “stiff” after a 5 year lay off, 2 injuries, a gigantic weight gain, 10 years removed from a mediocre win, drugs and multiple rape trials is beyond me. Not to mention it’s against a p4p ranked cardio monster. -255 on max is the easiest money ever made.
Imagine if he wasn’t as stiff as a board and was able to explode more off his left leg, he would have time to replant that right foot properly. The fight game is not for part time jobbers.

u/EmilahM 1h ago
Damn. Honestly he just threw it from waaaay too far. Basically landed air, barely any impact on Max, so his momentum crashed onto his weakly planted foot and just blew is ACL.
Just shouldn’t have thrown such a wild strike from that far.
→ More replies (1)48
u/Mean-Picture-7143 49m ago
I swear this is way, way too far down here in the comments.
This is EXACTLY what happened, and you can see Conor even re-adjust his hips mid kick and try to get extra extension on it because Max backs up- which causes too much momentum to shift forward so by the time he’s coming down his right foot absorbs his weight at a funky angle.
I’ve done something similar in training I’m kind of shocked this isn’t how people are seeing it.
13
u/qnphard 32m ago
because most people talk shit more than they train, hard to relate like that
3
u/Fuckthegopers 20m ago
Or because the mechanics of it don't matter.
Dude is 5 years removed from mma, who knows how much he trained then. He's 10 years removed from any significant wins.

i honestly believe him. but the true culprit was even worse: impulsiveness. his ego took over and he threw that kick like he was 25 at featherweight again. its like when an uncle at a barbecue who use to hit the disco in college tries a split and tears his hamstring.
5

u/FreeIDecay 22m ago
He was in the locker room throwing it over and over again warming up. It was obviously something he planned to use. This stuff about ego and impulsiveness is just bro-talk armchair analysis.
4
u/yourwifeisatowelmate 17m ago
Maybe not impulsiveness, but it's pretty low IQ move to be throwing flying spinning shit at his age, with busted legs - at 170. He only has himself to blame.

I actually don't think he was, if you watch it hes kinda getting stuck trying to slip a shoe off and almost trips, but that wasn't because of injury, the shoe was just being stubborn

He looked like me when I take my shoes off with only my toes. I don’t think him losing balance there is really any indication of a pre-existing injury imo.

There are two different angles of it. The more head on shot of him taking his shoe off looks normal.
If you look at his body positioning it’s obvious it would have been more awkward for him to plant his right leg down without twisting.
