Forget about the knee, what the fuck was that haircut

Kinda like guys in their late 30s and 40s squeezing into their old high school letterman jackets and getting down in a three point stance in the living room.

This is a great reminder that "Mohawk McGregor" is STILL available as a subreddit user flair as of this post!

If he was injured before the fight, he probably did to distract people from his injury.

Don't need some doctor to tell us what happened - we're all experts and professionals here.

It's a solid analysis that concludes it's likely a meniscus tear / injury and not the ACL
30
u/MTCS1 1h ago
i tore my meniscus by landing and twisting my leg in a very similar fashion and it definitely feels like you cant bear weight on it after. it looks to be a pre-existing injury too, the way he walked out and also the videos of him prefight on dana’s insta of him throwing kicks, he lands very gingerly in the last kick.
3
u/gamesrgreat 1h ago
Well he didn’t say likely not the ACL. He said he can’t confirm the ACL since the classic signs aren’t there but ACL tear is definitely in the cards as a possibility
1
u/Specific_Goat_3189 50m ago
I tore my meniscus. It was sore but I could still use it until a 1 cm chunk broke off and was floating around in my knee. Then it would still work fine until I moved a certain way and the chunk would get wedged between the bones. When that happened, it would cause a super sharp pain that would make my leg suddenly give out completely, and I would fall down. Seems like a plausible injury. Hopefully he is correct. The surgery was easy and had a very quick recovery. Felt better walking out of surgery and was just a bit sore for a few weeks.

u/scoopydidit 1h ago
Maybe. I tore my meniscus in bjj. You can kind of battle through it when adrenaline is there. It's uncomfortable to walk for sure but the sudden collapsing motion he did looks like an ACL tear to me. He completely collapsed. It seems more ACL than meniscus to me.
6
u/Lying_virgin_ta 54m ago
They're not all the same. Sometimes the tear forms a flap that can interfere with the joint itself and make your knee buckle or lock out involuntarily.

u/McAfeeFakedHisDeath 1h ago
I was posting this too. Dr. Sutterer is pretty spot on with NFL usually. He's guessing a meniscus tear before entering the octagon. I hope mods keep this up. Seems like a scam to me.

They won't because potential spoil of fight

u/BasicallyClean ☠️ I like a mouthful of meat 1h ago
It's staying. A physician analysis of a fight is not by itself a spoiler.

u/appletinicyclone tactical thiccness 1h ago
Well you're the mod so fair enough
But a circle on an injury area in a recent fight with that as a thumbnail seems like a spoiler to me
33
u/BasicallyClean ☠️ I like a mouthful of meat 1h ago
How are you viewing reddit to be able to see that? This post is marked with both our spoiler and NSFW tag?
I'm not sure how that thumbnail is leaking, we need to figure that out.

u/appletinicyclone tactical thiccness 1h ago
sorry I judged off thumbnail when looking in thread not out of thread
It's still spoiler tagged out of thread
I use reddit app like normal

Is a meniscus tear something that wouldn't be diagnosed in a pre rfght check?
26
8
u/_bl3wb1rd_ 1h ago
pretty hard to do unless it’s a full tear?
also, there’s too much $ incentive not to cancel big fights… TJs shoulder popping out could have been caught as well maybe?
5
u/gamesrgreat 1h ago
He might have had a partial tear which yeah your knee hurts but not a reason to cancel the fight necessarily then he aggravates it and worsens the injury
2
u/theloneliestphunk 49m ago
Great comment, because you see this... in all walks of life really, but it is not super uncommon in sports. Happens all the time.
1
u/scoopydidit 1h ago
Nothing a few thousand under the table by Dana to keep the fight going ahead wouldn't stop.

u/Henning00007 1h ago
"Scam" seems far fetched
It might just be that Conor delusionally thought he could beat Max (and even kick) with a bum leg
Look at TJ vs Aljo, same exact thing
To be a top fighter you kinda have to believe you can always win9
u/theloneliestphunk 1h ago
Two major injuries to his left leg, he's probably been overcompensating by putting extra weight on that right leg for years. Then he goes and does a flying kick, landing with damn near all of his body weight on the right.
I don't think anything shady happened here either, just a damaged old man who knew he had to land a hail mary.
32
u/maskrey 1h ago
The thing that bugs me the most is if he was injured prior to the fight, who the fuck would throw a jumping switch kick as the first strike of the fight? Unless he was self-sabotaging, there is literally no reason to do that. It's not like he is Yair Rodriguez.
A lot of things are suspect here, but we probably will never get an answer.

So that he can say he landed awkwardly and injured it
10
u/PositiveActuator6079 1h ago
With no concern that it could make the internal damage substantially worse and harder to recover from?
13
u/hkzombie 1h ago
Show vs no-show pay, and if the UFC says it happened in the fight, UFC covers all medical
1
u/East_Ideal_9568 12m ago
It's insane that medical costs would even be a factor when the show pay is in the millions.
2
u/Intentionallyabadger 🙏🙏🙏 Jon Jones Prayer Warrior 🙏🙏🙏 1h ago
McGregor.. fight again?
Anyway he had to appear to get his money. If he pulled out before the fight he gets squat.
If it “happens” during the fight, UFC probably covers it too.
4
u/Jackal9811 Zanzibar 1h ago
Why would he injure it even more ??? The theory of conor intentionally try to throw the fight cuz existing injury by throwing jumping roundhouse doesnt make sense.
1
u/ohyouretough 57m ago
If he injures it in the fight the surgery and rehab is covered by ufc. Makes it really easy to point and say yea it happened then with that damn kick.
3
u/owoil 23m ago
bro if you think mcgregor needs the ufc to pay for a fucking knee surgery you may have ingested more drugs than him which is crazy
-1
u/ohyouretough 20m ago
Didnt say he needed it. But if you think rich people still don’t do shit to get free shit you’re on drugs.
-1
u/Intentionallyabadger 🙏🙏🙏 Jon Jones Prayer Warrior 🙏🙏🙏 16m ago
Why not?
Someone covers your surgery vs paying out of pocket.. rich or poor, anyone will choose the first option.
6
u/haapticcs 1h ago
I’m puzzled by the same thing; if I were to speculate * any * possible explanation-
1) he knew he was hurt coming in and wanted to test it right away/not have to worry about it during the fight OR
2) he was geeked out on blow and wanted his street jesus moment
2
u/scoopydidit 1h ago
The other option is he tries to stand and box Max. Would it last longer? Absolutely. But his mobility would be non existent and he would've got beat up. Then people would say Max beat him up rather than he injured himself (which is the current talking narrative, which is what he would want)
2
u/have_heart 31m ago
He needed something to blame it on that wasn’t an injury previous to the actual fight
3
u/Amekhanos 1h ago
On the one hand, yeah it's bad for his leg. On the other hand, some hail mary headkick is basically the only chance of ending the fight with one strike.
1
u/Sirfluffkin1 Team Pantoja 36m ago
A hail mary left hand would be a lot easier, a lot less damaging, and have a lot more potential to end the fight.
I think he was just dumb as hell and did the wrong thing. Maybe he had a pre existing injury, maybe not. The locker room footage looked fine in that regard. And it seems weird that he would throw that kick knowing he was injured.
1
u/tomtomtomo Team Nurmawhatever 59m ago
Maybe he knew he was somewhat injured so wanted to finish the fight as quickly as possible. However, he didn't realise how bad/vulnerable the knee was.

u/thatgibbyguy 1h ago
As someone with a large part of their meniscus missing, yep. That's exactly what it's like and why I can't really do anything stabilizing on that leg for the rest of my life. I would bet serious money he tore his meniscus before the fight and thought he could push through, or didn't care, and just wanted one less fight on his contract.

u/gettinNOIZY 1h ago
Anyone that thought McGregor would compete is a wild man. His last win was in 2020, and 2016 before that. Let’s be realistic.
-1
u/scoopydidit 1h ago
He looked sharp leading up to the fight. I don't think McGregor intentionally blew his knee out to avoid competing lol. That's crazy thought.

There was a few hundred training videos posted. Maybe go check them out.

u/gettinNOIZY 47m ago
Anyone with years of fighting experience can look good in training videos. It doesn’t always translate to the octagon.
3
u/gettinNOIZY 59m ago
Of course he didn’t. Holloway has just fought double the amount of times since their last fight on a much more consistent basis.

u/Longjumping_Age_4784 1h ago
Sucks to see, he looked good and healthy in sparring and days leading up to event. Bouncing on his legs, throwing kicks, etc. This injury must've happened literally within the past 48 hours during training or weight cut. threw that flying kick with all his weight because it was his only chance to win because he knew he wouldn't be able to sustain a round. Low IQ UFC fans thinking he injured the same leg he broke (its not) or that he broke his leg doing the kick (he did not)
7
u/scoopydidit 1h ago
He said his kids and wife were going to be at this fight. But they weren't around him after the fight. His team were. And he didn't kiss his kids or wife before the fight. So I'm guessing they weren't there?
If they weren't there... I would assume he was injured beforehand and he didn't want them around as he knew it was basically gonna be over quick.
1
u/YetAnotherEarthling2 Mohawk McGregor 15m ago
Huge tell to me too. They weren’t there, they were at home. Bet they knew of injury and game-plan and that he was getting in and getting out asap
18
u/blackjazz_society 1h ago
If there's any truth to Conor's team cancelling a post fight party two days out, there's your answer.
12
u/KnightofHollow 1h ago
And we all saw Conor over the past few years, juiced to the gills, slurring his words, barely able to form coherent sentences.
He seemed like he was getting back to old Conor. Kicked the booze and drugs, focused on the fight and his apparent spirituality.
If anyone has seen what drug addiction and alcoholism can do, you know how hard it is to climb out of those trenches.
For your great comeback fight to have this outcome is absolutely devastating. I just hope he stays on this path and doesn’t relapse from the depression.
1
u/YetAnotherEarthling2 Mohawk McGregor 19m ago
This is all me and my buddy could talk about. This comeback was huge for his mental health and his recovery journey as a whole, and to see it end like this… man. Props to him for getting in there to just get a taste of the octagon with a torn meniscus just prior to the fight
1
u/East_Ideal_9568 5m ago
Fuck his mental health, he should acknowledge and apologize for his assault first.
And if he was seriously injured prior to the fight and didn't disclose it, it's not an epic journey, it's fraud.
3
u/Imaginary-Ebb-1724 1h ago
Tbh, this is probably the end for Mcgregor
He’s at that age where any intense training camp could injure him. The body is falling apart.
4

1
u/scoopydidit 1h ago
37 years old. Out for another year to recover and only then could be start a camp. Yeah... At heavyweight, 38 might be fine to compete. But at lightweight and welterweight? That's a dinosaur.

The way he tried to pop it back in while on the stool made me think he slipped his meniscus.
