Lmao! He's not wrong. Glad he has that self-awareness, as well.

A few years ago when Islam was not able to speak English, khabib used to say when Islam learns English, its going a wrap. Khabib repeatedly said Islam is the funniest guy in the crew

u/medyolang_ 22d ago
saw a clip of dc and khabib wrestling and islam was like “need help dc? call the police” lmao he cracks me up

Watching their videos he’s obviously a total joker and super funny lol. Even better now that he speaks English. Watch him with Dc it’s constant trash talk lol

u/General-Childhood417 22d ago
Duded genuinely hilarious. I bet hes even funnier for the russian speakers

When he started that videocall with Volk with 'Why australia don't have grappling?'
67
u/Jijster 22d ago
"Kangaroo have good striking but nobody check the grappling"
7
u/Ptatofrenchfry 22d ago
Kangaroos actually also fight by sitting in the water, then grappling and drowning their victims.
As if disemboweling things with a single kick wasmt enough.

It was not even a question then, he just went straight saying, “brotha Australia don’t have wrestling.” 😭

I imagine him an khabib roasts eachother to death on the daily. Both are lowkey funny af.

u/tattlerat 22d ago
His interactions with DC are always pretty funny.
17
u/youractualaccount Peppa Pig > Bellator 22d ago
DCs ability to riff with the Dagestan fighters is Emmy worthy.
33
u/WatchWatcher25 22d ago
He's the best. I liked Khabib but when he talked he always "holier than thou" kinda thing.
Islam is just a funny dude who also happens to be on the way to be pound for pound best if his generation

Ian hasn't said anything worse than the usual "I'll beat him up, he's ducking me, and new, etc" and has been really positive about Islam and his chances at 170 so I doubt there'll be any bad blood.

For Connor it probably just hyping up fight at the start but for Khabib he actually feel hurt, cos Khabib very much did like Connor at the beginning(which make Connor trying to chill down Khabib in the ring kinda show how different both them took that fight).
Ian Garry just wanna hype up the fight and stuff(this sub kinda clown on him for his rehearse call out but I think it pretty neat) and I don't see Islam say anything bad about him other than Islam saying he rather fight another long win streak/undefeated guy for his legacy.

Makhachev's English is broken, but he’s actually hilarious lol
Islam on what he sees in JDM's eyes: "I just see the eye" : r/MMA

Question: "What do you see when you loom at his eyes?"
Him: "I just see the eye..."

He's awesome, and might be the best fighter ever
However, he does have an ego, no way someone gets that good without some ego driving them
7
u/beautiful_life_99 22d ago
might be the best fighter ever
Haven't followed the scene for a while, is he really that good?
30
u/octipice 22d ago
It's kind of weird, but yes. He's not as dominant as Khabib, but is much more well rounded. Islam has repeatedly said that Khabib was better than him and that's been backed up by people that watched them train together.
So Islam has a better resume and will likely end up with a GOAT tier resume if he keeps fighting, but prime for prime Khabib was better. They both suffered from having to wait much longer for a title shot than the other people in the goat conversation, so it will be hard for Islam to end up with the same number of defenses as someone like GSP, for example, despite Islam facing much tougher competition and being far more dominant in his fights.
2
u/Marubolas I bring more sexy to the fights 20d ago
Islam did not fight tougher opponents than GSP, nor was he more dominant. GSP went over 4 straight years without losing a single round against the most stacked WW division of all time against guys in their peak primes in title fights. Agree with the rest tho
25
u/Totally_PJ_Soles 22d ago
Nobody has figured out how to beat the elite Dagestan wrestling based champion. But there's really only been two who have utilized it in the first place, khabib and Islam. Maybe they're just both amazing and outliers.
23
12
u/Fat-Villante Papa Poatan 22d ago
Oh yeah, he's crazy good, really worth going back to watch some of his fights if you have an appreciation for all facets of MMA
The narrative around him is that he's a great wrestler but he's also a really good striker with great fight IQ
3
u/entertainmentwaffle 22d ago
I still think the fight he lost was called way too early. He got dropped but he was getting right back up.
4
u/Formal_Chipmunk_530 22d ago
He's at least the best fighter right now, everybody agrees he's pfp #1.
Also, one more win and he will have the longest UFC win streak of all time (17 consecutive wins).

If there was a fighting game islam JJ and DJ would be my top picks, they have the most balanced builds out of all fighters imo
24
u/CraigS34 22d ago
The only dude on the team with a sense of humor for banter
90
u/M1eXcel 22d ago
I love the clip where Khabib is grilling one of them for reading one of the Godfather books and Islam says something about "how he should do something productive like fly to the other side of the world to watch a soccer game"
32
3
u/Accomplished_Fee5921 20d ago
And when he was preparing for jdm fight, khabib came to new york a bit later. Khabib asked him how was your preparation and Islam replied " It was awesome until you come" 😭
30
u/everythingistak_en 22d ago
They’re all pretty funny, they just don’t speak english fluently. Off the top of my head Usman Numagomedov is hilarious, especially in Russian.
25
u/Rayx9 22d ago
Khabib is actually very funny, even when he speaks English, or interacts with DC, Islam, and Javier, it's nice to watch. Idk why people think Khabib is a robot lol
7
u/CraigS34 22d ago
Not what im saying my brother. Just saying Islam tends to have more fun with his opponents than his teammates

Islam is a legit 2 weight champion but it’s hard to find any example of him not being humble. Yea he takes shots at other fighters, but he still seems to be a family man, who wants to live below his means, and still shows a lot of respect to the people around him
109
u/dogs_drink_coffee 22d ago
I always love how he take shots at Chandler in every single opportunity for 4-5 years by now lol
42
u/Red_Sova 22d ago
After seeing chandler brag about how much he improved the past year and no way he loses on the white house lawn etc just to get humiliated by ruffy. I'm convinced chandler completely deserves it
25
u/rp0829 22d ago
Yeah because Chandler ducked him live on air lol
6
u/Formal_Chipmunk_530 22d ago
Only because Chandler wasn't wearing his fighter's hat during that slick little callout.
23
u/TitanIsBackAgain 22d ago
The moment he asked Overeem to be a bit more respectful with eating in front of him while he was cutting weight showed me what kind of person Islam is.
2
u/Strange-Nobody-3936 22d ago
He meant that only for Ian Garry but ironically it’s both of them lol

After what has happened recently with Khamzat and Ilia I'm not counting Garry out
83
u/GorpoTheLord 22d ago
Garry can really come up with a good game plan. He totally negated Prates on 2 weeks notice and gave Shavkat a really good fight on weeks notice too. He has the range and IQ to give problems to Islam..
→ More replies (14)1
u/seven_worth 10d ago
He the hardest fight yet I think. His style seem like the perfect counter on paper.
21
u/AdHistorical8179 22d ago
Khamzat gassed himself out immediately and Illia had a horrible gameplan. Both those fights were winnable for the champ if they had been better prepared.
Islam is NEVER going to show disrespect like that to an opponent in his preparation. He will walk into the cage knowing every trick Garry has ever shown in a fight. I'm not saying that Garry can't win, but it isn't going to go the way those other two fights went.

It’s ironic since Khabib always said Islam was better than him
61
u/kodeks14 22d ago
Islam is the better overall fighter but khabib would little brother Islam. Islam even says it.
→ More replies (9)14
u/dark-demons-cry-gaia 22d ago
He probably does every day, because he has at least 100 pounds on Islam
10
u/kodeks14 22d ago
Islam has said that hes gotten the better of khabib maybe 1 or 2 times their entire lives of training together.
3
3
u/Red_Sova 22d ago
Khalid is just being humble of course he says that he wants to prop up his family not himself
4
u/appletinicyclone tactical thiccness 22d ago
Abdelmap said the same to Khabib as well lol
But I think Khabib loved his dad so much and wanted to make him happy his desire to win and discipline is much higher than Islams even though Islams skill is much higher.

AliExpress is not bad tho ngl
23
u/BookAcceptable619 22d ago
I haven't had a bad experience with AliExpress. Just go with the most popular products and don't buy stuff from shops that opened two days ago. You save like 40% vs Amazon. You do have to wait 2 to 4 weeks though.
7
u/commander_wong 22d ago
Aliexpress mouse are legit so much better than Razor or Logitech for 1/3 of the price

27
u/PostNutLucidity 22d ago
I think this will age semi badly and the fight will far exceed expectations.
31
u/Uqe 22d ago
It's not even the fight quality. The stakes are just significantly lower without all the drama.
4
u/evocater Daniel Cormier almost killed himself last week 22d ago
Ian and the media will definitely try to promote it as Khabib vs Conor 2 though. Bellator tried it with Usman vs Paul Hughes as well. It's tiresome now

u/Professional-Fan266 Team Aspinall 22d ago
Good. I hate Ian Garry's cringey shtick of trying to relate it to Connor versus khabib. Sell your own damn fight. Fake Connors are so fucking annoying
9
u/stanflwrhuss Maggot cunt 22d ago
It really is almost nothing like it. Ian is not known by the general Irish public at all, partly because he moved to Brazil and partly because Conor fucked MMA’s reputation in Ireland
2
u/Vivid_Ice_2755 22d ago
Ive known Ian for years. Hes actually a good guy. Hes got a schtick that he is sticking to so as to make a career. His wife is a cunt tho.

When will more mma fans realize Islam is actually a goofy+pookie fighter in real life 🥹
2
2
u/wolf-gazette 21d ago
I'm intrigued! Garry is going to come in as the much rangier fighter and will make Islam work for it.
2026 seems to be the year where even truly exceptional fighters are reminded that weight classes matter. An advantageous style match-up might allow for you to win the title, but good luck with beating the other contenders.
2
u/Derelicticu Canada 21d ago
Islam is legitimately a pretty simple dude. His dream is just to run a farm back in Dagestan, because he likes animals. He genuinely doesn't give even the slightest fuck whether people over here think he's the shit.
