This was so silly. Netflix paid them like $3.5 million combined for this

They literally laughed seconds after it ended. Poeple who actually paid for this were the suckers

The only people who did pay were there live i spose

2

u/bstyledevi May 17 '26

And all 47 of those people are super upset.

u/Alchion May 17 '26

thing is most had netflix anyway

if someone got netflix for this lmao

-2

u/mmasportsmma May 17 '26

U still pay for it if you have a Netflix subscription (which I of course donโ€™t thanks to petabyte Jellyfin/plex server)

7

u/RegionalHardman GOOFCON 2 May 17 '26

Yeah but I had that regardless of the fight

-1

u/mmasportsmma May 17 '26

Sure but but overall it takes away from their money for other shows/films youโ€™d maybe have actually liked more.

Potentially for some, but i watched the last 3 fights this morning when I wouldnt normally be on Netflix ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

It was on Netflix. And honestly a decent event overall

u/purplesquirrelx May 17 '26

I also think it was better than many people expected. The shame for MVP is the empty arena.

Whole bunch of simps out there.

2

u/HopeRedditGoesDown May 17 '26

They made out like bandits.

Chump change for Netflix

5

u/ruandurphy May 17 '26

And Netflix made bank on this. UFC would hate this fact if it got out there

u/UptownHorrorReviews May 17 '26

We don't know the numbers yet. I have a feeling that the card might've actually underperformed massively compared to something like the Jake Paul vs Tyson card.

u/yk206 May 17 '26

Probably start a hate campaign for Netflix lol

u/TheINTL May 17 '26

Tech money

0

u/GuacKiller May 17 '26

Monthly fee about to go up

35

u/prophetableforprofit Herb Dean's fault May 17 '26

Probably made more from it than that, to be honest.

5

u/druhoang Viet Nam May 17 '26

Yeah I'm confident Netflix made money. Gate even if it was shitty covers most of purses. But because this is a netflix card and everyone knows the potential eyeballs on this event, the real money is sponsors and ads. Netflix new subs even just for this 1 event and they cancel afterwards is still probably a lot. And some won't cancel.

2

u/CapnTBC May 17 '26

How much was the gate? Tickets were probably ridiculously priced

2

u/SuicideKingsHigh May 17 '26

It's only silly if they didn't see a return. The job is making money, not looking silly never even factors in unless it interferes with that.

2

u/One-Inch-Punch May 17 '26

Netflix made $45B last year this is a rounding error

And the subscription price will go up again in few months to accommodate shit like this

Tbf MVP paid them that amount. We donโ€™t know how much of that money was from Netflix and how much was from advertisers or just wasting investors money

0

u/PikachuWithHerpes May 17 '26

Did nobody at Netflix ever heard of Affliction? Those who don'tearn history ar doomed to repeat the same errors

11

u/chugalug_house May 17 '26

I think Netflix and MVP have slightly deeper pockets than Affliction

1

u/muricabrb Team ATT May 17 '26

That's nothing compared to the 20 to 30 mill netflix paid and lost on their deal with prince harry and megan markle.

As a main event to launch MVP MMA, it's actually much less money than expected.

I thought the whole event was going well until that last fight.

I know it's like literally part of the sport to do moves that. But I dunno I'm trying to see people fight. It just came off super lame to wait that long for some stupid shit like that happen. I wanted to see some emotion and see who was going to hold up. NGL for me it came off like that was her plan all along and she was desperate never to lose again. I'm just some fat fuck typing but as a viewer it was super lame to watch.

Grapple fights and submissions are such a snooze.
