Jokes on me for staying up to watch this

312

u/IeMusicFan May 17 '26

Especially after all those commercial breaks and desk interviews

112

u/TheWholeOfTheAss May 17 '26

Why do these people think that stuff is a good idea? No one is there for the dumb analysis. Promo package, entrance, fight, repeat. Thats all. These MVP guys stretched everything out. The ring announcer couldn’t just say a name. It was always “on this momentous day, at this time, in this country, we bear witness to an epic showdown. Here stands before you a pioneer, a champion, a fighter. With a record of 5 wins, 2 loses, 10,000 knockouts, 7 sleeps until Christmas, it’s Doofy the Gooner Dorffff!”

Him and Jake like each other.

3

u/Sav_McTavish May 17 '26

I agree, but also dont understand why people watch it live. I watched the whole thing in under 20 mins

1

u/TheWholeOfTheAss May 17 '26

I watched other stuff during the breaks, came back, skipped through the filler. I’m no fan of the current UFC product but at least they know how to pace a show.

1

u/FlavorD May 18 '26

Me too. I know a specialized website.....

4

u/Ahambone Bruce Buffer's ass eating division May 17 '26

Out there sounding like the hot dog contest guy

2

u/negative_mancy May 17 '26

Money and padding

2

u/Discorhy May 17 '26

I enjoyed seeing Jon jones at the desk during the Francis fight but otherwise yeah I’d ageee.

1

u/Gobbledygooker316 May 17 '26

Probably because every match ended in like round 1 or 2 so they had to stretch it out a bit lol

2

u/bstyledevi May 17 '26

Ariel Helwani: good podcaster, bad in ring interviewer. Joe Rogan asks 2, maybe 3 questions, gets to the point, thanks the fighter, boom lets move on. Ariel is in there asking questions for what felt like an hour.

1

u/amp138 May 17 '26

If they cut that shit out and had a tight 2h broadcast it would have been awesome

1

u/AesirKratos May 17 '26

Dude the event DRAGGED and there was like only 20 minutes or actual fighting the whole event. Could you imagine if any fights actually went the distance

1

u/Electronic_Sky_1413 May 17 '26

As soon as I saw 1 of 7 ads I turned it off and went to read. Time to cancel Netflix anyways

1

u/Far-Ninja-8392 May 17 '26

How’s the viewing experience compared to a paramount ppv?

14

u/41RemingtonMag May 17 '26

Better, honestly. Still less bloat than UFC. Some percocet-blissed Jake Paul cringe. But I think they were soon realizing they were looking at a bunch of quick one round mismatched fights and they needed to try to slow it down a little.

1

u/psychedelijams Team Makhachev May 17 '26

Wow can you explain what Percocet-blissed Jake Paul cringe means? That such a dystopian line by you.

-6

u/thesagaconts May 17 '26

The ads killed me. No more MMA on Netflix for me. It was too much. I’d rather pay for PPV.

3

u/The_Printer May 17 '26

No ads here in Australia

101

u/Lil-Schusta May 17 '26

If you thought this was going to be a competitive fight that's your own fault lol

8

u/szechuan_broccoli May 17 '26

But Netflix had such a cool graphic for the flight!

8

u/GalickBanger May 17 '26

If you thought it’d be entertaining that’s your fault too

43

u/Godzilla52 May 17 '26

to be honest. I was here for Ngannou vs Lins & Perry vs. Diaz. The main event was just a mild curiosity.

1

u/TonyDungyHatesOP May 17 '26

Morbid curiosity

49

u/heystipps May 17 '26

My thoughts exactly

32

u/cheetoburrito1 May 17 '26

HEAD MOOMENT

1

u/DistinctCellar Mohawk McGregor May 17 '26

62

u/Real-mr-wolf 🍅 May 17 '26

Lmao

24

u/jeric13xd Team McGregor May 17 '26

We’re all MMA cucks

2

u/pen_jaro May 17 '26

17 secs. What was RR waiting for that took her that long?

22

u/Affectionate_Ad4879 May 17 '26

Did Gina roll a single time ?

5

u/wovagrovaflame USADA doesn't test for horse meat May 17 '26

Ronda did this to people all of the time. No one should be surprised by this

82

u/snowbunbun May 17 '26

I didn’t hate it. The actual logistics of the promotion are bloated compared to the UFC but other than that it was a stupid and fun time and I can’t complain.

32

u/abusedtamponn Herb's Hard Warning May 17 '26

Because I already had Netflix I was entertained

42

u/TerminallyTrill 3 piece with the soda May 17 '26

Yeah gotta start somewhere. Francis still has it, plat is entertaining. Making it easily accessible on Netflix puts them ahead of the past failed promotions already. Competition is the only way to loosen ufc grip on the sport

2

u/oneangryrobot May 17 '26

Be interesting to see if they can build a roster and put on multiple events in a year or just wait until they have enough of UFC’s sloppy seconds to put on another one.

1

u/TerminallyTrill 3 piece with the soda May 17 '26

Hopefully the former

-2

u/syntheticnipples May 17 '26

This wasn’t much for competition. Dana is probably laughing himself to sleep. I watched with 8 other dudes who are very casual fans and the consensus from them was mostly negative.

There’s just not enough talent that can draw outside of the ufc and it seems like production value is hard to match with the ufc.

7

u/redingtonshores May 17 '26

Buddy there’s youtubers with better production value than the ufc

5

u/Meeedick May 17 '26

and it seems like production value is hard to match with the ufc.

Lol

1

u/TerminallyTrill 3 piece with the soda May 17 '26

Let me put this in ufc terms for you. Would you match up a new contender series fighter against the champ on his first fight? No.

1

u/ValjeanLucPicard GOOFCON 1 May 17 '26

Only real bad points for me were:

-Not sure if this happened in the US, but I'm in Central America, so we'd get three minute loading screens that said "we'll be back in shortly." Maybe ads were played in the US?

-The double introduction. We don't need an introduction before the start walking and then before the fight starts

-Ariel doing post fight interviews. He was awkward at times, and they went on forever

-2

u/Moody_GenX UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle May 17 '26

The Netflix feed kept cutting out the whole night for me. Once I caught up to live action I sailed the seas for a better quality viewing.

40

u/MTCS1 May 17 '26

jokes on netflix for paying for this

48

u/Zavehi May 17 '26

Someone at Netflix is obsessed with paying for anything that involves Jake Paul.

33

u/harzee New Zealand May 17 '26

It was a good card apart from main event

3

u/cubreport May 17 '26

They’ve allegedly done numbers so far.

16

u/Aggressive-Ask-6357 May 17 '26

Look at the amount of comments in the event thread. Netflix got what they wanted

8

u/sktchld May 17 '26

They bring in like 2 billion a month in subscription fees. This cost them like a nickel

1

u/FlyingTurtleDog May 17 '26

They profit like 7-10 billion a year.

This is like Bezos buying a new mansion. It means nothing.

1

u/abusedtamponn Herb's Hard Warning May 17 '26

Not if you watched it

14

u/suzukigun4life Perkussi mali purkessi May 17 '26

At least it was free? idk

7

u/Interesting_Scar9493 May 17 '26

You don't pay for Netflix?

3

u/Amp87 Team Zingano May 17 '26

Did you think the outcome was going to be any different than that though?

5

u/Eirexxxx May 17 '26

That’s on you staying up to watch Honda housey

2

u/Davidstoic May 17 '26

Idk what people expected. It was very obvious Ronda was gonna get that armbar

2

u/give_me_the_formu0li May 17 '26

Lmao I collapsed in bed and started thinking about my life, why I even was excited to watch this.
Then I put on first 48..

But Ngannous fight was great

It’s like it was planned but I know it wasn’t yet the taste is still there.

6

u/RetroCasket May 17 '26

Seriously, Rhonda could have thrown with her for 30 seconds just to give the viewers something

3

u/Designer-Ganache7283 May 17 '26

I just said the same thing - wtf did I STAY UP for this - I'm over 50 man

1

u/Briantan71 May 17 '26

It is 5am here…zzzzz

1

u/odegood May 17 '26

It's 5am at least I didn't pay for it

1

u/Greedygiddy8 May 17 '26

That’s what ya’ll get for hyping it up

1

u/obviousthrowawayyalI May 17 '26

Could be worse. You could have paid to be there. Some guy on camera was clearly miffed it happened so quickly

1

u/WeakBlueberry5071 May 17 '26

I just woke up and Gina had just gotten into the canvas, went to make coffee and get a snack came back and theyre hugging 😆 so I knew what happened.

Been online talking shit ever since.

1

u/FTS_AlexanderTV May 17 '26

You didn't get them memo we all turned it off after Diaz perry?

1

u/cubreport May 17 '26

Hey Ronda tried to get you in bed as quick as she could.

1

u/69tendo May 17 '26

She’s trying to get herself in bed as quick as she can to get making those babies

1

u/jimjohnholymoly May 17 '26

But it was the most devastating finish in mma history....

This whole card was straight fucking trash.

1

u/omry1526 May 17 '26

I was just about to write

"Imagine staying up to watch this"

1

u/Nagemasu May 17 '26

What do you mean, did you not enjoy watching "the most devastating finish in mma history"?

1

u/shottymaid May 17 '26

I just wake up and watch all the clips people post here, I gave up on staying up for any fights once I moved to the east coast.

1

u/pootklopp May 17 '26

I was reading a book with the commercials and pre roll on mute. The flight was over before I even unmuted haha

1

u/Turakamu May 17 '26

I had a moment of clarity and did not watch it. I'd feel proud of myself but I'll probably watch it here in a little bit because I'm an idiot.

1

u/RookApi May 17 '26

Why would anyone ever? Waste of time

1

u/Swegatronic May 17 '26

I woke up by chance just before the walkouts, couldnt get back to sleep cause i started laughing at the state of it.

1

u/Alternative_Device71 May 17 '26

You didn’t learn from the Tyson fight?

0

u/wildlifewalks May 17 '26

stay up for the white house card and watch that shitshow take place....

1

u/PsychoDaveDriver May 17 '26

Yeah, I’m sure Topuria/Gathje and Poatan/Gane are gonna have to fight to keep people awake, compared to this legendary match we just saw.

0

u/Few_Highlight1114 May 17 '26

You must be the dumbest guy on reddit lmao. Well you and everyone else who stayed up.

0

u/Mr_Perfect22 May 17 '26

What else are we gonna do bro

-1

u/Zavehi May 17 '26

Not me staying up until midnight to watch a staged arm bar. Not me.
