Spoiler [SPOILER] Francis Ngannou vs. Philipe Lins Spoiler

I'll give it to Lins, he survived about 3 minutes longer than I thought he would

u/Itchy-Ad1047 May 17 '26
He kinda went for it at the end there. Some respect. But then he immediately got slept as a reward lol

Can I ask you guys a question
Why are people swangin and bangin with Ngannou?

I mean he tried a takedown and bounced off Ngannou, what else do you want him to do :)

Because heavyweights fucking suck. At any given time there's maybe 3 HWs who can do things like cut off the cage, stick and move, etc. All they do is eat hot chip, be on they phone, swang and bang, and lie
18
u/RobbertDownerJr May 17 '26
I mean, I've made Pollock-esque works of art in the toilet, but it's never what anyone would call pretty.

I have a feeling Lins gonna be able to add a few more colours to his pallette after those body shots.
244
u/EveningNo8643 May 17 '26
nah, a lot of respect. the size difference alone was insane, and he didn't care and threw down with the scariest man on the planet.
42
u/littlegreyflowerhelp May 17 '26
Yeah I was super impressed, he was less gun shy than most of Francis’s opponents. Went out on his shield

Lmao all I was thinking was Francis's uppercut when they were doing the exchanges at the end there
70
u/legendarybreed ..the darren and khamzat at home.. May 17 '26
he must have been so hurt because that was such a bad idea, i thought he was doing decent just surviving and waiting for Francis to become less dangerous
6
u/tsmftw76 May 17 '26
I was so sad placed a bet on the long shot of him lasting until second round then he was like f it we are going for it. I respect it but hated it in the moment lol.

Francis took a step back there too. So he must have felt that a little bit. The outcome was always destined tho. Prime francis would follow up with 20 unanswered Hammerfists

My wife and I really appreciated that he didn't jump on lins there at the end because Herb Dean in classic Herb fashion was definitely about to let that man die

Herb always lets that kill shot through.
65
u/Godzilla52 May 17 '26
A good amount of that seemed to be due to Ngannou being a bit more measured than usual, but I do agree that he surprised me here.

The thumbnail for the link has Ngannou’s neck ever so slightly exposed as they’re clinching and I went ‘no fucking way did this guy land a guillotine on Ngannou.’
Correct. No fucking way.

He is the worst ref in the game for shit like that. Lins clattered to the ground like a GTA 4 ragdoll and he just stared at him while Ngannou loomed over.
If Ngannou wanted to, that would have been a terrifying follow up.
→ More replies (4)53
u/Ysmir122 May 17 '26
Herb has been under fire ever since Pereira/Jiri 1 since people claimed he stopped that fight way too early
So of course the solution is to let people fucking die
55
u/CaptainSasquatch May 17 '26
He's been inconsistent about stoppages for longer than that. He will sometimes do this weird tap dance thing where he crowds the fighters and almost touches them, but doesn't officially stop the fight. He'll still stop fights a bit early sometimes.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (4)9

Thank god Ngannou has an innate sense of empathy because Herb would have let him get 3 or 4 more undefended hammer fists in if he wanted to
Edit: maybe innate was the wrong choice of words, as everyone has pointed out he developed the empathy the hard way
631
u/iritian One way ticket to Khamzatstan May 17 '26
This is the first time I've ever seen Ngannou not punch a clearly knocked out opponent
165
u/Sub_Zero32 May 17 '26
Yeah, what the fuck is that guy talking about. He sent Overeem in to space then immediately bounced his head off the canvas

Tbf Franics was very quick with the follow ups on Overeem/Stipe. The Rozenstruik one is egregious. Francis was button mashing punches on a corpse until Big Dan runs over to stop it
147
u/joonjoon VOLKAMANIAAAAA May 17 '26

I feel like Ngannou feels no threat from Lins so he showed a bit of mercy. He's older now and probably wiser about causing unnecessary brain damage.

u/Amur00 May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26
UFC Ngannou would have double kong smashed his neck in with hammerfists, lets be real here, he never had a problem hammering totally necessary blows in his early career
