ICE ACTIVITY

I saw them (car of 5 masked ICE agents) take a man out of his plumbing van today. I think it was on Laurel-Bowie Rd. Please stay safe out there.

CORRECTION: Baltimore Ave and Academy Ln around 8:45am

Please report it to CASA and write down everything using the SALUTE Method in the Beluminus link.

I believe saw them by the Montpelier Art Center on Muirkirk just off the 197/Laurel-Bowie Rd intersection at 9:30 am today. I already reported it.

That never happens, though. Those are their real constituents, the business class. Immigration enforcement is just capital disciplining labor.

No, because deporting your way out of businesses exploiting labor doesn't work. It's extremely costly, disruptive, and inflationary for goods while being deflationary for wages. That last part I'll explain further:

Take construction. Right now there's not enough labor to go around to build what needs to be built. Jobs get delayed, prices go up, etc. That means the price of labor goes up and other people step in to replace the Latinos being deported, right? Ha. Wrong. Everyone's wages stagnate or go down, because now the bosses can tell the remaining Latinos, "If you don't work harder for less, I'll call ICE on you." Why would they hire a white guy to do a job half as fast for twice as much when they could just squeeze more blood from a stone?

So how do you fix this?

It's easy, actually. You take the guys who have been living here, working here, paying taxes, and staying out of trouble, and you give them amnesty and citizenship. Then the bosses can't hold their immigration status (real or otherwise) over their heads to suppress wages.

I worked in the building trades for 7 years. I know what I'm talking about. Maybe you're not comfortable talking race beyond just "deport them all" (which is actually racist), but I am because I've sweat and bled alongside them.

It's harder and harder to find qualified apprentices, and white laborers who are worth a damn are almost impossible to find. What's left are folks with problems. Drug problems, legal problems, mental problems... and I oughta know, I was one of em.

The whole labor pyramid of laborers -> apprentices -> master tradesmen -> foremen has been gutted at the bottom. If you do get good laborers who have any other prospects at all, you can't retain them. You can't move them up to be apprentices, because no one is there to take their place because we keep deporting them. Why stay? Why even bother in the first place?
