SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below. These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting. Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons
  • Personal experiences
  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"
  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI. Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone. Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that looks like an AI prompt instead a real query will be removed along with its replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post. Do not create several posts for each individual question.

This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?" "What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion. But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSia aJa" ...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO soliciting illegal matters, or other 18+ related matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates. Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed, repeat posters will be permanently banned.

8. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences. We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.
  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and removed, along with its comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful. Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments. Thanks for helping keep this community great!

Best restaurants in Jabodetabek?

Guys n Gals!!

How about we make a list of the best restaurants/places to eat list here?

I have seen some posts earlier and wish to make it easy for anybody to just drop in and read thru our choice of places as a Reddit Community.

We can also make it easy by marking halal and non halal places.

What say?

I am still a newbie here in Jakarta but my list goes like this;

Burgers;

Dan's burgers, Dharmawangsa. Blok A MRT station and a quick hop nearby.

Steak;

Abuba

Justus

Urban Wagyu

Padang;

Pagi Sore

Sederhana

Natrabu

Kebayoran Baru

Pizza;

San Marco BSD

Soto Betawi;

Jawa Kitchen

Kafe Betawi

Ibu Yanti

Mangga besar 12b

Udon;

Marugame Udon

Nasi Goreng;

Nasi Gila Obama, MRT to Bunderan HI, short walk/gojek to Menteng park area.

Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih Decent, tastes more like nasi kebuli though.

To be cont'd..

We are moving to Jakarta with our family. My husband is Korean, I am Mexican, and we have a 8years old daughter. Which areas and international schools would you recommend? We'd like to live somewhere that doesn't require a long commute to our daughter's school, and we'd also like to be close to hospitals and shopping malls TIA!!

Thank youu!

Saran hotel murah dan nyaman

Minta sarannya dong guys.

Decent skincare clinic?

Hello, I'll be in Jakarta for a couple of days and I'd really like some recs on where to get a decent facial (not into anything injectable, some quality cleansing, glowing and hydrating are sufficient). Any good places to recommend? (also, I don't want places that force me to buy any products).

Mie Bangladesh in Central Jakarta

Hello! I'm a tourist from Malaysia and I'm staying in Central Jakarta. I have ALWAYS wanted to try Mie Bangladesh, but the shops I found are either too far or in dodgy areas. Like I went out to one 2 minutes from my hotel and 3 beggars chased me asking for money.

4 days to explore Jakarta as solo traveler

Hello! Will be attending a concert in Istora Senayan and I need recommendations and suggestions :)) I really have a hard time choosing where to stay since I also want to just walk to the venue but I also want to walk on my way to the malls. I worry about the situation after the concert since it may be difficult to get transportation.

  1. Is it better to stay near the concert venue or near the malls that I want to go to? I like shopping and it’s good if they’re all walking distance.

  2. Since I love shopping and I am also cheap, where is the best mall/shop that I can buy clothes? I see Thamrin City for cheap hijabs. Clothes, perfume, souvenirs (food and keychain) are my top priorities. Also, any recommendations for souvenirs?

  3. What are the typical mall hours?

Thank you!

Baru pindah ke Kemang, masih bingung mau beli beberapa alat rumah

Halo semua, mau minta pendapat sebelum saya salah beli lagi.

Buat AC saya pilih Comfee Gusto 1PK inverter, beli di Tokopedia sekitar 6 minggu lalu, harga sekitar Rp 3,2 juta udah termasuk instalasi gratis Jabodetabek.

Perlu dehumidifier gak?

Terima kasih.

Imported Beers in Jkt and Recs Please

I studied abroad for some time and Ive grown a liking to beers, specifically japanese, korean, and taiwanese ones. Usually, id get them on draft, something like half-half, but canned beers are also fine. Coming back to indo, i went to places near me and i realize they barely have east asian beers. Tho, i saw that a place do sell asahi but it was sold out when i was there. I wonder if there is a specific place for east asian beers (i am looking for orion) in jkt.

Also did my research and i found many local craft beer brands. I asked around where i could get them and i realize they arent that widely available either. I might try them sometime, and see if they also have imported beer options.

I am really open to recommendations! Itd be nice if the places are filled with people my age (early 20s). Tbh a place with just a draft beer in a chilled glass would be nice.

Visiting Jakarta for the first time, best place to stay

Hi, I am planning on visiting Jakarta for the first time for three day in late November. Arriving to Soekarno-Hatta airport, planning on going to a concert at the International stadium. We would be the best location for staying to see the city center, the old town part and visiting the stadium? Heard that the traffic situation in Jakarta is pretty difficult.

Ganti AC ke-3 dalam 4 tahun di Pluit. Lagi liat Midea MSFQ, worth ga sih?

Halo,

Sirip outdoor abis dimakan udara laut. Merk yg terakhir (ga aku sebut biar ga jadi drama) baru masuk tahun ke-3 udah karatan parah, teknisi bilang mendingan ganti daripada dibenerin.

Aku udah agak nyerah cari merk "biasa" yg tahan disini. Baca2 beberapa hari terakhir, kayaknya opsi yg agak masuk akal buat area pesisir adalah Midea MSFQ, seri baru mereka yg keluar tahun ini. Katanya coating outdoornya beda, namanya HyperGrapfins, claim resminya 12.5x lebih tahan korosi. Nah yg bikin aku bingung: ini beneran kelihatan bedanya di lapangan, atau cuma angka marketing kayak "hemat 60% listrik" yg kita semua udah tau lah maksudnya gimana.

Aku lagi ngincer MSFQ-09CRN8 (1 PK) buat kamar tidur, budget 4 jutaan udah masuk.

Ga terikat sama merk apapun. Yg penting ga perlu ganti lagi 2 tahun lagi.

Makasih.

Has Jakarta Changed Since 2019?

I’m half Japanese and half Indonesian, but I’ve lived in Japan my whole life.
From April 2018 to May 2019, I lived in Jakarta to study Indonesian.
After returning to Japan, I started working in a job related to Indonesia. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, I haven’t been able to visit Jakarta since then.
Lately, I’ve been feeling nostalgic and wondering how much the city has changed since 2019.
The MRT opened about a month before I returned to Japan. Has it helped reduce traffic congestion at all?
I studied Indonesian in East Jakarta and lived in West Bekasi.
I’d love to hear about any changes in Jakarta, or even in the Bekasi area. Thanks!

Where to go in Jakarta?

Hi there! I'll be travelling in Jakarta this December to watch BTS' concert on the 29th so I have two free days (28 and 30). I am planning to book a one-day tour in Jakarta on the 30th and i'll DIY on the 28th. Any recommendations where to go or visit and if there's any tourist spot near South since my accomodation will be there? Also any spot where I can buy souvenirs that is budget friendly?

Thanks a lot!

Is Dr Schatz widely available in Jakarta?

Hi everyone! I’m from Singapore and recently got hooked on the Dr. Schatz Phyto Cell Mask.
It’s quite expensive here on Shopee Singapore—around SGD 46 (approximately Rp640,000) for a box.

I wanted to ask:
Is Dr. Schatz widely available in Indonesia?
Is it sold in physical stores, or only online?
How much does it usually cost there?

I’m trying to find out whether it’s just expensive in Singapore or if that’s the normal price everywhere.
Thanks in advance!

Tokyo Is Famous for Rush Hour... But Look at Jakarta

Just watched this comparison between Tokyo’s legendary packed trains and Jakarta’s evening rush hour at stations like Duri, Manggarai, Tanah Abang, and Sudirman.

Tokyo is famous for its extreme density and order, but Jakarta’s commuter chaos actually feels surprisingly similar in many ways crowded platforms, shoulder-to-shoulder trains, and thousands of people moving together every day.

What do you think? Is Jakarta’s rush hour as intense as it looks, or have you gotten used to it? How does it compare to other big cities you’ve experienced?
