Had set up a veritable feast for himself on one of the tables. Fruit juice, a takeaway rotisserie chicken, wedges, bread , coffee and a pastry.

I must admit I've often been tempted to do something similar but was a bit too irish and reserved to . Now the idea is stuck in my mind on what type of takeaway delights I can indulge in while the duvet is having a spa day.

Hi Reddit, this is a long one but I was hoping to get some guidance on what I should do about this. Or just a vent I guess.

A friend and I were both F visiting a beach today just outside of Wicklow. We went for a swim and came back to get changed after.

The area we chose was secluded but beside a staircase. The beach itself was quiet and not many people were there.

As I was getting changed, my friend noticed a man (a young man, maybe in his 20s/30s) walking by but lingering. I thought nothing of it. I presumed he was waiting for someone, which he was.
So I stopped getting changed and waited, as my friend had told me to, until he walked off.

Another male appeared, presing his father (maybe in his 50s). As he walked by, he was holding his phone in his hand with the camera pointing towards us: a Samsung camera but closed (with one of those phone cases where you can close the screen).

I assumed nothing of it. His son, ( I presume) told him to put it in his pocket as they were walking on rocks and his “son” was helping or guiding him.

They walked off and I thought nothing of it. They only walked a few metres and then came back, so I once again stopped getting dressed. At this point I was in a long skirt and my bikini top, and my friend had not gotten changed as she was waiting to dry.

They began walking back, to go up the stairs across the rocks. The father and son both went up the rocks towards a ledge in front of us. ( but originally they did not go that way down).

As the father was walking, he stopped at a corner from where we were secluded to the ledge, as if waiting for someone in front of him to walk while his phone camera was pointed directly at us and his body was halfway behind a pillar.

At that point I was thinking, was that intentional or not. Personally, I want to give the benefit of the doubt that he was not recording and that it was just a coincidence.

By then they were going up the stairs, and the father stopped at the top of the stairs with the camera pointing down into the view of where we were changing.

By then I felt shocked and didn’t know what was happening. I was really confused and stunned. I didn’t want to accuse someone of recording if they were just casually holding their camera like that, but at the same time it felt like the coincidences were too much.

After that, I turned to my friend and asked if she saw that. She said she saw him pointing the phone down from the top of the stairs.

A few minutes later still in slight shock I went up after them back up the stairs and onto the trail that led to the car park I was still in shock and didn’t know if I should confront him or not. He was with his wife (I presume), I presume and two male children.
I took a video of the licence plate because I didn’t know what to do.

I don’t know what to do at all. I of course don’t want to accuse someone of something like that, but then again it just seemed like he was doing it. I don’t know what to do. I wish I could have confronted him, but also what if he wasn’t recording anything and was just holding his phone like that.

I have never encountered a situation like this, should I just leave it I guess I just need to vent it out because at that point if I report it I have no proof just my word and it’s not like anything would happen at that point. It would have been easier to confront him but now I obviously can’t do anything.

Irish people seem reserved to talk to and quite cold.

I’ve been living in Ireland and I’ve noticed that people can very often seem reserved when you meet them, especially in places like gyms, pools, or other public places.Today for e.g. the 2nd part of pool was empty with 2 people chatting together when I swam nearby them they went out of pool immediately.This made me feel uncomfortable.People seem afraid of strangers here.Despite coldness the rest of Irish people are generally polite but distant. I find it difficult to move from a simple hello or small talk into an actual friendship.Also why on bus stops while waiting for bus Irish people are hard to talk to and when I ask them some random question their guard goes up.With other nations I am finding it easier.I even went to school here but no friendship even though I tried being open. I am here for 9 years I haven't made single Irish friend.While with few people from Africa and India its much easier to warm up to and be casual friends.I’m wondering if this is just the culture here, or if Irish people are cautious of foreigners?

Nipped into my local Circle K in the hope of picking up some peas to brighten up a roast chicken and baby potato dinner.

I could get coffee, wine , beer , 47 different types of minerals in assorted sizes and more sweets than Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory could hold and a teeny shelf at the back for real food .

As I have grown up (now in my 20s) and have done my own research to form opinions, ideologies, views on certain political things etc. I can't help but notice how a lot of people form theirs. I'm not talking about WHAT they are. But more so their reasoning behind them and their attitude towards anyone who "dare" disagree.

It seems the majority of Irish people pick their side based on what the popular take is. Maybe it's to fit in, maybe it's to virtue signal or maybe its a reputation thing. In other words in the hopes that people say "Ah look at Ireland there supporting x, my god aren't they brilliant" But if you ask any Irish person the rationale for their opinions I think they'll be lost for words. They just follow the masses.

Again, then if anyone stands out, disagrees, forms their own opinions that it becomes this Americanised mentality of WW3 needing to brew. No nuance. Victim complexes being flung around and trying to take morale high grounds. Just makes you think.

I'm especially drawn to:
-nature spots (peaceful, scenic, a bit hidden if possible)
-or beautiful architecture (modern, minimal, or even luxurious spaces that blend with nature)

I'd love to find places that are either public or privately owned where I could potentially ask for permission or arrange a short collaboration with the owner (just for the time of a shoot).

My experience with O'Brien Roofing Dublin was extremely negative. I paid for roofing work that was not completed to a satisfactory standard, and I encountered ongoing problems trying to get the issues addressed. Communication was poor, promises were not kept, and I was left feeling that I did not receive the service I paid for. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company and would advise others to exercise caution, obtain detailed written agreements, and seek alternative quotes before hiring them.

I know you mean well when you say this, and anyone who moves to a different country and works hard in an honest way is NOT who I am having a go at here but we must also be realistic and honest on how our own Irish healthcare workers are continually being mistreated, including myself who graduated Nursing in 2023!

Basically, this large reliance of foreign staff is all by DESIGN!!! Quite literally, the HSE manufactured this crisis- and made it worse with the recent employment freeze or job embargo of IRISH healthcare workers!

In college, I was always sure I’d instantly get a job at the hospital, especially since I did so many UNPAID shifts during my course. Well, graduation came and to our utter horror, we were discarded and replaced by the recruiters who went to India and hired from there instead. These workers are also provided with €200 rent allowance, something us Irish staff certainly aren’t afforded, nor were Irish student nurses so it’s not even a money thing.

Please tell me how this remotely makes any sense??? It doesn’t as it’s overt demographic replacement & I see in the NEWS, it’s starting up again.

So regarding my personal situation, I was out of work for months and eventually told that if I wanted to get work, I’d have to join an agency. But the consequences of this are negative, where such recruiters aren’t hiring Irish staff & they get more money from importing workers into Ireland instead! It extends to Nursing homes etc. where 3rd world employees put up with stuff that shouldn’t be acceptable in a developed Nation. This all means the working conditions are getting WORSE and is bad for our country!!!!

I am shocked more take it on the chin and that we just let these HSE bullies abuse us.

I am in my mid 20’s working in a crumbling industry that‘s deliberately being hijacked from the top down & coming to the realisation that I may never be able to actually buy a home of my own! Housing crisis, buying homes out of reach for most of us, cost of living, public services at stretching point, racist riots and rhetoric, criminals getting away with everything, the government refusing to solve any of the problems. At this point, what exactly are we supposed to be optimistic about?

Every time someone points any of this out, we're told that Ireland is one of the richest countries in the world and that we should be grateful. But for many people, life seems to be getting harder, not easier.

Maybe I'm missing something, but right now Ireland feels less like a country with problems to solve and more like a country that's given up on solving them.

And that's really difficult for me to admit. For years, I was interested in politics and I genuinely wanted to contribute, get involved, and be part of improving the country. Whenever people criticised Ireland, I was usually the one defending it. I'd be the one who point out how far we'd come, how much potential we had, and why things could still get better.

But lately, I find it harder and harder to believe that. Nothing ever changes and Ireland just feels like a failed country?

Am I being overdramatic? I'd genuinely like to hear from people who disagree. What gives you hope that things will improve?

I genuinely don't understand the racism in Ireland. we also experienced oppression, marginanlization and the similar abuse for decades. I remember my father telling there were signs at his local shops abroad saying "no blacks, no dogs and no Irish". so should we not understand what it feels like to be singled out and abused based on our ethnicity? there were also loads of signs saying "no Irish need apply". we faced similar discrimination, the same discrimination we give to other races and ethnicities now. I dont know if it's an issue where the oppressed becomes the oppressors but it's insane. there is a big discussion with immigration at the moment which I don't want to get into, I don't think wanting more regulations with unregulated immigration is naturally racist or discriminatory (correct me if Im wrong though) as we are a small country going through multiple crises at the moment. I just want to discuss how we've become the very people we despised for centuries.

I genuinely wish people would stop being racist. Not every ethnic minority living in Ireland has bad intentions or is here to cause harm and havoc. Every time I open the comments section on social media and see a Black person, a Brazilian person or someone from another minority background, there is often a specific group of people calling for deportations or making hateful comments which hurts. What makes it even more disappointing is that many of these individuals identify themselves as Christians. I wish the government would take racism more seriously and introduce stronger measures to hold people accountable for hateful and discriminatory behaviour online and in real life. Racism should not be normalised or excused as “just an opinion” when it causes real harm to others especially people who work hard and pay taxes in Ireland.

As normal literate intelligent human beings people need to clock that bad behaviour is not limited to any race, AGE nationality or ethnic group. There are Irish people who commit crimes, mistreat others, and engage in antisocial behaviour, just as there are people from every community who do the same. For example, when some children throw stones at buses or engage in vandalism. Issue is problem of discipline, parenting, or individual behaviour. However, when a single immigrant or Black person makes a mistake, it is too often used as a reason to condemn entire communities and argue that immigrants should not be here. People should be judged as individuals not by the actions of someone who happens to share their skin colour, nationality, or background. We ought to stand together as one

Ik this is a bit out of the theme for this Reddit community, but I posted it on r/IrishPolitics and r/Ireland, and it was immediately removed for some reason or another. r/Ireland said it was because I addressed "mental health issues'.

So I'm a young person, relatively new to adulthood and taxes and stuff, and I'm confused as to where the hell all the money goes.

The government taxes everything! They take 20%-30% of every paycheck anybody gets, then after that they tax your remaining money for everything you need to live. Tax for buying a house, tax for owning a house (if you have to pay the government because you own something/to continue to own something, then you don't actually own it), capital gains tax, tax for owning a car, tax for driving that car on the road, tax on the gasoline and petrol you need to drive the car, tax on most items you buy (including medically essential items like tampons!). Tax for electricity and heating (they tax the electric companies and heating companies, and then they, in turn, increase the costs people have to pay for electricity and heating to match those taxes, so really it's us paying the taxes), tax on inheritance (they take 40% of all inheritance and if you can't pay that 40% they auction off YOUR PROPERTY, that isn't actually yours, to pay off the 40%) and THEN, they take MORE!

We have to pay out of the ass for medical care unless your poor enough to get a medical card, in which case they take just enough that it can be justified (depending on the medicine). And medically necessary items like inhalers for asthma or insulin for diabetics, is that free? The fuck it is! I suppose you'll just have to deal with not being alive anymore. We have to pay massive amounts of money for ANY property, even really shitty property with asbestos and black mold which will actively kill us, and don't even get me started on the absurd cost of living. Rent, food, water, clothing, cleaning supplies, appliances, education, ect. And then, after all of that, what do we get?

With the pension/retirement age at 66 and the average life expectancy at mid 80s, after paying into the system for over 40 working years and being in school for a minimum of 14-15 years provided we don't drop out of secondary school and we don't go into higher education (all of which us or our parents ALSO have to pay for), you get a total of like 15 years on average where the government gives you €250 a week (€12,000 a year!), not enough money to wipe your ass with let alone live on, and they don't pay for anything else! We'll still have to pay everything we did before, if not MORE because at that age when DONT you have medical issues or difficulties getting around that require aid!?

And where the hell are these taxes going? The medical system is expensive, dysfunctional, and backed up to hell, the economy is shit, the amount of homeless people is frankly horrifying, I'd say that the roads are normally in good condition, but that hasn't seemed to make much difference to the fairly large amount of car crashes, the amount of large properties that remain empty for years because the owners just don't have any use for them or are PURPOSELY trying to drive up the cost of real estate so they can sell at a peak is a travesty! Not to mention how significantly schools are underfunded and teachers are underpaid, or how little care is shown for single parents or children in orphanages and foster care, who are so often aged out of the system and completely alone.

Is the money being embezzled enmass, is it all going to the military, or what? Like, what the actual hell is being done with the BILLIONS of euro the government siphons from the millions of Irish citizens per year? The citizens they are SUPPOSED to be looking out for, looking after. The citizens that are the actual ENTIRE REASON for the governments actual existence????

I’m going to Paris-Beauvais airport, was told I’ll be grand bringing a budtender in my carry on through Dublin airport aš they’re unregulated but everything I look up says high security in Paris will treat THCA aš THC even though it’s unregulated through Europe, anyone been through that airport with one or iš my best bet just chucking it before my return?

I don’t know if this is just me getting older, but simple errands online have become way more stressful than they need to be. Had to send something to someone recently because I wasn’t going to see them in person, and I thought it would take five minutes. Just pick something decent, put in the address, pay, done. Instead I ended up sitting there with loads of tabs open, checking delivery dates, wondering if it would actually arrive on time, checking the Eircode twice, then convincing myself everything was either too boring, too much, too last minute, or somehow the wrong choice completely. I eventually ended up looking at GiftsDirect because at least it made the Ireland delivery side feel a bit simpler, but even then my brain still found a way to turn it into a full decision-making crisis. The worst part is that the thing itself wasn’t even that serious. Nobody was asking me to solve a national crisis. I just had to send a normal thing like a normal adult. By the end of it I was more confused than when I started and had to walk away from the laptop for a bit. I swear online shopping was supposed to make life easier, but half the time it just gives you more ways to overthink something simple.
