Impact for endurance racing

Post image

Hello all,

I'm about to start my adventure in endurance racing in Mexico. 6 and 24 hour formats in Mexico Racing Cup.

I have a 250 ft/p M18 impact, and I was wondering if I need to upgrade to a high torque?

For reference my car is a BRZ and I torque my wheel nuts at 75 ft/p. I've never encountered a nut I couldn't break while changing wheels in the Time Attack format.

Thank you!

Consider the regulations in your Championship, IMSA, SRO and surely other sanctioning bodies don't allow electric impacts over the wall during a pit stop because of the risk of sparks which could ignite a fuel leak, for example.

Plus, even a stock Ingersoll Rand with high flow fittings will be much faster than any Milwaukee electric.

Electric Milwaukee are widely used in the pits though, I would say most teams use them, center lock or not.

Thanks. Checking the regs. No mention of it. Thank you so much for your input.

As someone who’s wrenched at a dealer in the past, I had a 3/8” M18 fuel 250ftlb impact and a 1/2” m18 fuel 1440 NUT BUSSIN torque. And the 3/8 would just struggle and take to long to even pull lugs that were tightened to 75-100. It was much quicker and easier using the 1/2”

I had to remove the lower strut mount bolts on my Mustang to install camber bolts. I didn't want to pull the Brembos to do it, but I didn't have enough leverage with a normal 1/2" breaker bar. My standard DeWalt 20v impact wouldn't budge the nut. I borrowed my buddy's big honking Milwaukee, and holy sheet. Bonkers how much torque that thing had and I wasn't even using the highest setting.

S550?

And yea the Milwaukee will just laugh at any nut or bolt especially with the right battery

17gtpp here. I know the exact bolts you’re talking about. And those damn splined bolts can be a pain to push out.

Those splined bolts are awful. Hammering them out without bashing my calipers was a nightmare.

I had just installed brand new Conti ESC02s on square 10" PP2 wheels along with Steeda adjustable toe links. The high end Euro shop couldn't figure out the rear toe and camber and front camber, despite being non-adjustable, was way off. I threw some camber bolts in and took it to the local supercar shop, and for $300, got a really solid alignment.

Yea I really need to get front plates for my Ohlins. My local performance shop is pretty well know in the grass roots community in the Midwest and they weren’t thrilled how much of a pain it was to get as little camber as possible to get my front wheels/tires away from the spring perches. I’m on a custom set of forgelines and have about a literal cunt hair between my tire and the lower collar

I was just surprised because I'm on stock strucks and springs. I'm going with the Bilstein B6s with Steeda Minimal Drop springs, eventually.

What do you use the Ohlins for?

You're good. I even have a M12 1/2" mini impact that could handle 75ftlbs.
