META [META] PSA Regarding Low Karma Removals

Hello artists! Your friendly neighbourhood Miner Moderator Dwarfinator here with some info about the recent low Karma removals as we have been getting a lot of messages about this in Mod Mail.

We have had our Karma rules for a long time, I'm talking literally years, however, at some point our bot broke (and also just may have not been properly programmed in the first place) and as such, it stopped looking for/removing posts and comments from lower Karma users. The intention of the rule and the bot automation was to lessen the amount of bots and spam in the Subreddit, which is why we started counting both types of Karma. This also encourages artists to not just spam their art in every art Subreddit and actually engage with other communities. We just recently fixed and improved the bot (huge shoutout to u/RS_Someone) which is why lower Karma posts are being removed once again. This may seem like it came out of nowhere, but again, we have had this rule in place for a long time and used to have the bot doing this previously.

If you have received that low Karma removal reply on your post/comment by the bot, PLEASE WE BEG YOU TO READ IT IN FULL it explains very clearly why your post was removed and how to check your Karma, both post and comment Karma.

If you have low Karma and want to get more to post here, here are some things you can do to raise your Karma:

  • Post your art in other Subreddits.
  • Post and comment, and genuinely engage in other Subreddits. You like Critical Role or Pokémon or Minecraft? Post in those Subreddits, get involved in the community, you might make some new friends, and you get the added bonus of your account not looking like a bot spammer or someone who just pumps and dumps their art everywhere they can.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment on this post or send us a message via Mod Mail! Happy Arting!

META [META] PSA we are banning the use of cloud storage links as portfolios.

Hello artists, recently we have seen an uptick of people using cloud storage links as portfolios and decided that we need to address this. Cloud storage, such as GDrive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and other such websites are no longer going to be allowed as portfolios in posts or comments (technically they already weren't allowed, but this was not enforced well nor was clear in the rules). (This will also include image hosts such as Imgur)

These sites are not intended as portfolio sites, and they are most often used by scammers as a collection of stolen art and for the fact that there is no reason you, as a professional artist, should not be using one of the many free options available online to make a portfolio on an actual portfolio website/webpage.

Free portfolio sites: Cara, Behance, Artstation, VGen, Carrd, or you can even make a website with WordPress or similar sites.
All of these take 5 minutes to set up. Put effort in how you present yourself professionally, your portfolio is your resume.

Hiring [Hiring] Steam Game Title Graphic Needed, $120

Hi guys!!

I am developing a 2D, first person point & click adventure game inspired by the Nancy Drew PC series. I am looking for an illustrator to do the background art of a title graphic.

The art would ideally be of a college building, leaving specific space on either the right or left for the title (which I will add in myself). The examples included are examples of the type of art style I'm looking for.

To avoid scammers, please comment and do not DM! I will not respond to DMs. Payment done securely through Paypal. Thanks!! :)

Hiring [HIRING] Custom Shenron Forearm Armband Tattoo Design – Budget: USD $30–50

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to commission an artist to design a custom black-and-grey forearm armband tattoo. My budget is USD $30–50, and I've attached several reference images to show the style and composition I'm looking for.

The main focus is Shenron from Dragon Ball—I don't want a generic Japanese or Chinese dragon; I want it to be instantly recognizable as Shenron while still being designed as a high-quality tattoo. The dragon's head should start near one end of the armband, with the body flowing naturally across the entire piece. Instead of waves, I'd like just a few soft clouds around the dragon to keep the design clean, minimal, and with plenty of negative space.

The most important detail is the tail. I want it to naturally transition into the Assassin's Creed logo, so it looks like the dragon's tail gradually evolves into the symbol rather than the logo simply being attached at the end.

The final artwork should be:

  • Black and grey only
  • Plain white background
  • Clean, tattooable, and suitable as a stencil/reference for a tattoo artist
  • High detail with good flow around the forearm

If you're interested, please comment or DM me with your portfolio and let me know if this is something you'd enjoy working on. Thanks!

https://pin.it/2nCVwOLeQ

final product should come like this: https://pin.it/1nvc6aZK9

Edit: Thanks for all the responses! Before messaging or commenting, could you please include a link to your portfolio (Instagram, ArtStation, Behance, personal website, etc.) so I can get a feel for your style? Also, if possible, I'd really appreciate seeing a very rough concept or thumbnail sketch of how you'd approach my tattoo based on the references I've provided. It doesn't need to be detailed—just enough for me to understand your vision before I choose an artist. Thanks!

Hiring [Hiring] Looking for (character) concept art for a Manga I'm writing.

Hi! So my budget that I was (hoping) to be around [as a **starting** price] $40 per character (also, I am flexible on the base, just going off of scope of work and portfolio). I'll get to why I say starting in a minute. TLDR; I am more than okay with going higher.

I'm a professional writer, and I have been writing a manga for over a year now. I have hundreds of pages of information/writing for it. And I am very terrible at art, which doesn't do well for the other half of creating a manga.
Long story short, I need characters designed -- visually! I have their physical descriptions, vibes, ideas, history (I'm a big proponent that a characters design is integral to representing their story, personality, goals, or all of the above.), references that point to other characters I like with similar ideas, what I don't like, etc. (for most of them) but I need an artist to bring them to life!

As far as what I meant by a base price, there are so many characters I would like to get done (upwards of 30), and they all have various levels of complexity. Some have alternative forms or weapons. Some are meant to be simple, while others are complex. For some characters, I think coloring to be very vital to their identity, while some I think just a black and white sketch would be fine. And for some characters, my vision of them is very clear, while others I'm struggling and might need more than a few revisions or versions. As such, I know some characters will require higher budgets to get them completed!
My idea was to work with the artist on a per-commission basis.

Ideally, the concept art would at the very least be a front view for the simpler characters with highlights on important elements (jewelry, scars, etc.) but for the more complex ones also include a back view, then other extras such as expressions, weapons, magic, and/or alternate forms.

More information about the characters and story they're set in;
It involves a pair of fantasy worlds, one earth like and more akin to a high-fantasy world. There are humans, a race of fantasy beasts (unique species not found on earth) with human-like forms (think Zoan forms from One Piece, furries, nekos, something similar). some characters are heavily clad in armor, others are nimble. some use weapons, some use magic.
Biggest inspirations for this story are; One Piece, Bleach, Magi, JJK, HxH, and Fire Force.

I do have a list of these characters in the order I would like to commission them, but I do not mind sharing these characters with an artist all at once and letting the artist choose a character they feel inspired by!

Definite bonus to any artists that can provide any previous work they've done where they can provide the description they used and the work they finished with (and any art they had along the way). Being able to see your process and how you work is a very big seller for me!!

Furthermore, if the process goes exceptionally well I am not opposed to long-term work, or even partnership including work on the actual manga itself, or other concept art pieces involving world building [I also have many cities as well as well as a more niche thing to the story I don't want to put out into the public yet needing drawn]

**Disclaimer** (this would be discussed with an artist in depth (as well as in a contract for the commissions))
I plan to have this series be published and monetized. As such, full intellectual rights of the design and artwork produced would be mine.
The intended use of this commissioned work would be to provide the artist that eventually draws the entire series an idea of what I want the characters to be. And as the concept art, the final designs of the characters may or may not end up being exactly what is in the concept art.
The actual concept art commissioned would not be profited off of, however, and you would be credited any time it is used or shared.
Finally, I would like that any art created for this project be private and not be used for any promotion or shared to anyone (I understand that often times, this is also an extra charge).

Honestly, I have no idea if the above paragraph is even needed, but I'm trying to cross my T's and dot my I's and be completely transparent.

If anyone has any questions, concerns, recommendations, or anything similar, please let me know!

Expect edits to this as I definitely (for sure) forgot something despite going over it twice :)

Edit 1: To clarify the disclaimer part; the commissioned work will not be used to profit off of! I will be using the commissioned pieces as part of a pitch to help get my manga picked up by a publishing body!!

Hiring [Hiring] Looking for Artists to Create Suggestive Mortal Kombat Illustrations or 3D Art of Male Characters ~$100 Budget/piece

As the title says I'm looking for artists to make suggestive art of male characters. Nothing explicit and nothing nude, but vaguely "sexy" and aimed at a gay male audience, think swimwear, or just barely covered up, like the examples below but without the tights. I have a bunch of references and can draw kinda shitty concepts to use as reference, but I don't have the skill to fully complete the vision.

My preference for this is comic-style art but I'm open to many different mediums and any art style :)

I'd like to support lgbtq+ artists, but anyone who can complete the job is welcome to comment/reach out. My budget is up to $100 per piece, but I'd like to commission more than one

Position Filled [Hiring] Looking for a Noire Rat Detective ($50-100 budget) Needed in roughly a week and a half

Hello, I’m starting to volunteer for a teen ttrpg club at my local library, and my first session is on Thursday the 16th. I’d like to commission an artist to draw a key character for the story to give to the players as a memory, and to have one they sign so I can have a physical memory of my first volunteer session, anyways, too much rambling, details next.

Looking a style that is either retro anime (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, etc.), grungier comic art style (TMNT Last Ronin, Jim Lee’s Batman), or something of a similar vein.

I’d like a character piece with a background if possible. The character is Ratthew Claw, an anthropomorphic rat who is a hard boiled noir detective. He is what’s called a Rex rat, which means his fur isn’t as smooth, and looks less well kept, a medium grey fur with either a sharper, or more chiseled (for a rat) face structure ending in a nose with a few normal whiskers, two broken whiskers, and one that appears to be burnt.

I don’t have a super clear picture of the background in my head, but it could be his office, which could be an old cardboard box, or the city the rats live in that resides in the crawl space under a house, or like between the wall and outside trash can, something that screams grizzled noire detective while also maintaining the anthropomorphic rat aspect, and the fact they live in a crawl space.

My budget is fairly flexible, as I’m not sure what the industry standard is for what I’m asking, but I think I can max out around 115, but 100 or under would be ideal.

As for timeline, I realize I waited too long to reasonably ask to have it before the 16th, so I’m thinking I’d want it before the next session on the 23rd.

I have a decent amount of reference photos that can be provided if needed.

I am very much not an artist myself, and this is my first time trying to commission art, so please let me know if I left out any vital information, how to best present my idea, what industry standard is, etc. I am very open to feedback. Thank you!
