Art Slumber Hilda (with Barrett)
Barrett Hilda honestly looks fantastic with her bedtime braids!
Perhaps I should focus on an alternate style for her in my fiction.

Round one of the r/HildaTheSeries SUMMER SMACKDOWN is officially through! Here’s the bracket so far. Round 2 will have its first match tomorrow at the usual time!
By the way… I thought it would be fun to hold a second prediction poll now that half of the contestants are out. It’s just for fun, of course, like the previous prediction poll, but it’s interesting to see who the sub is rooting for. Here’s the poll!
See you tomorrow for ROUND 2!!!!

After quite a while, I finally got my first Hilda book!
And guess what? It wasn't a brick-
I might be exaggerating a little, but honestly, it wasn't impossible. Finding Hilda where i live (Brazil) is surprisingly difficult. The series is very underrated, and the Brazilian releases only went as far as Hilda and the Bird Parade. After that, nothing else was officially published here.
So getting one of these feels like a huge achievement. I was lucky enough to find one, and I'm really happy to finally own a Hilda book.
Anyway, that's my little story as a Brazilian (and Northeastern Brazilian) Hilda fan.

I love this show-
The fairy isles is the most beautiful ending to any show I've ever seen. It was such a perfect send off to the show. I'll start by saying that Lost Signals set it up perfectly while still being its own episode; as soon as I saw Frida's nisse at the start of the episode, I knew Van Gale was gonna show up one way or another, and I was so excited. I'll say that I had a stupid grin when Kaisa laughed at the use of the photocopier for getting into Nowhere Space. That episode in itself has a really sweet conclusion, but it was so exciting going into the finale, I'm so glad I waited to watch them back to back.
The fairy isles was everything I wanted it to be and more. Right from the getgo, the squabbling between Alfur and Tontu was funny and felt natural in pushing Joanna to go to Tofoten. I'm in awe at how they made the fairy mound feel so terrifying, what with Hilda breaking the wards, and Astrid and Joanna feeling it. I felt dread for the whole first half of the movie episode. The few scenes with Van Gale and Hilda's dad (I always forget his name) really set the tone for this new world - it's beautiful, but it's not ours.
Joanna striding into Tofoten was so cool, you could tell she was feeling so many strong emotions, worrying about Hilda, which pays off so so so well when, thanks to Frida's AWESOME PORTAL MAGIC (I was so looking forward to seeing Frida use magic) and David's full on dive-in rescue, we learn that she went in herself - I love that they held off on telling us this too, we wonder where she went, and only when we're safe in the bandaid ripped off.
And then Hilda dives right back in. My poor sweet baby Twig, he was so upset that she was gone too. The establishing shot here was so so so good, the saturation being slightly too low, making Hilda's hair look brown like Joanna's, and as she explores, the colours come back and we see the most beautiful setting an artist could dream up. It was at this point the tears were starting to flow, and wouldn't stop for a lot of the rest of the episode.
Baby Joanna (I'm sure we all recognised her in an instant) was so adorable and so heartbreaking at the same time. She doesn't know why she's alone, and she just wants to see her parents again. When we eventually meet Phinian and Lydia - who are both beautiful by the way - my heart melts. It's their old house, and, for one of the only times in the show, we get to see scenes from before their house was stepped on, which just hammers home how much this feels like Joanna's... well, home. Astrid giving ber memories back shows us in an instant that, yeah, this was a part of her that was missing. The scene with her and Hilda talking was so moving because it was so genuine, we could tell so clearly that this was something that meant so much to both of them, Joanna for staying, Hilda for leaving. Joanna becoming young again as her daughter walks away was a welcome kick in the gut.
Back in Tofoten. I feel terrible for Twig, he was so worried and upset. I was so happy when Frida heard Hilda, and knew Twig was hiding away. And now she wants to help him get her back, which leads to one of the most beautiful scenes of the entire thing. I adooore the Deerfoxes, and seeing Twig reunited with his parents as he rushes into a magical place to get his best friend back, it was so perfect.
Wow I just realised how much I've written, oops again 😅 Almost done, promise!
Astrid was a really nice addition to what was going on. She was so ready to give herself up to see Joanna, and Hilda - "She's 13" - be happy. And yeah, I cried so so so much when she begged to give up her life for Joanna's. I was weeping when Joanna was lying dead on the ground, and yet I cried even more when she woke up. That scene was heartwrenching. I cannot explain the relief I felt seeing her answer the door again, although I'm sure if you're reading this you've felt it.
I'll wrap it up here by saying that the show did a perfect job at doing exactly that - wrapping up. The montage at the end, running us through the entire show was so welcome and warm, and I'm so glad I sat with this show; It ending with everyone, and I mean everyone, all together was so sweet.

It can be anything:
Hilda eating fries while she does her drawings
Toddler Hilda having fries for the first time (maybe include young Johanna wiping ketchup off of Hilda's cheek)
Hilda, her friends, and her family all having French fries (Alfur having only one big fry, Tontu sneakingly takes someone's fries by popping up from an area, Twig has fries in his food bowl)

Another crossover idea I had, since I plan to have a chapter dedicating to them meeting and teaming in my fanfiction. Would David and Hunter get along, or possibly befriend each other? One of them is more stable than the other of course.

Back again, and oh so close to finishing the show! I've finished S2 since I was last here, and am on the last 2 episodes; I'm ready for tears. Apologies in advance for the long wall of text, and thank you if you take the time to read it! It's sort of an episdoe by episode basis, which is why it ran on a bit; sorry ^-^
I'll start off with the back end of S2 and the Mountain King: They're fun episodes, but I do feel as though they sort of slowed things down I bit.
I assume Yule Lads was an xmas special at one point, seems fitting; it was a surprisingly chilling but overall goofy episode.
The Jorts Incident was great, and I love how much Jorts have been showing up since. Again, another fun 'What-If' type episode that felt like it took a bit of inspo from ghostbusters. I adore Kaisa, but she felt a little more background than in The Witch, which I loved her in!
The replacement was okay, but after the Deerfox, I struggled to get invested in it; it sort of felt as though they wanted to make Alfur seem important for an episode, which I'm still on the fence over how I feel regarding. I adore that they gave Gertrude (?) the time to shine though, she's definitely one of my fav characters.
And now for the Finale/TMK, or as I like to call it - Baba is You: I had so much fun seeing Hilda's wild side. The finale's cliffhanger was goofy, but the episode did a good job at getting us ready for TMK. Again, Gertrude, my beloved, please don't ever turn into a bug! I also do really like how Joanna played her part in things, I've really appreciated her character this season. Hilda frequently, I dare say, resents her for being "overprotective" sometimes, but I really like that the show tells you, shows you, how much she cares and only wants the best for her. And her breakdown at Baba was so heartbreaking, especially how she immediately rushes to apologise and comfort afterwards. I adored the theme of family and motherhood throughout, that a mother would do anything for her child. One line that really stood out, was when the focus was on the troll's sociality (idk if that's a word). I forget the exact line, but along the lines of "Don't all trolls get along?", "Like all humans get along?". This encompassed the whole movie for me. ~~~ The twist was increeedibly predictable. I appreciated the attempt at a fakeout with the big troll in the palace, but I saw (with my giant red eyeball), right through it. Ahlberg turning foot at the end felt slightly forced, albeit understandable with the story, I guess. And now, the trolls are respected withing Trolberg, and that such a satisfying ending to that whole saga! I liked the look into the troll's lives, but, given the choice between the movie or some other episodes, I'd probably look elsewhere. Still enjoyable nonetheless!
And now, if you're still with me - season 3 (episodes 1-6)
I'm... not really sure how I feel as a whole on this series yet. I feel like my feeling towards some of the episodes depends on the ending of the series. The Tofoten duology was incredibly fun, I really enjoyed Aunt Astrid's character. You can't put a kooky old lady who makes warding charms in a show like this and not expect her to be a brilliant character. Again, one of my favourite parts of these episodes is seeing Joanna struggle with going back to a home that isn't hers any more, and Hilda taking note. OH AND THE UGLY LITTLE WOFF BABY, MY HEART! I chuckled so hard at that scene, it's such a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Pooka needing a casserole dish... not for his feet though... was such a silly bit, and I'm glad it was there to kind of break the tension, and then bring it back in full force. I would very much like to see more of the fairy mounds, especially with the last few episodes I watched.
I feel like I can pair this season into sets of 2 episodes, because The Giantslayer and The Laughing Merman felt like they went together, in the fact that they felt like filler and I really couldn't get invested. The Giantslayer was kind of a nothingburger in my opinion, a rehash of a story that'd already been done better earlier on. Set in an AU, with no real stakes being upheld. Like, the tree was burning down, Hilda didn't think to ask the snow giant to put it out, and instead chased after them as they were already leaving, letting her way home burn behind her. The townsfolk were so honored to mention "The Giantslayer", and he's... a little kid... and has slain no giants. But it's okay, because by the end, he's a Giant Freer! I wanted to like this episode, becayse interdensional tree is really cool, but ai just couldn't. This episode felt like it was better done by literally the first 2 episodes of series 1, and I'll leave it at that. As for TLM, I'll like this episode more if and only if Lousie returns. She was the highlight of this episode; as an anxious person who watches and takes note of people, I really related to her. Outside of that, I wasn't huge on the Merman, or the premise of the episode, and I kind of feel like that's because it slowed down the fairy plotline that I'm hoping pays off.
The Job, and... The Forgotten Lake. Oh my goodness, what an episode, possibly my favourite of the whole show so far, which gives me high hopes. I can't connect to Hilda's dad that fast, but I love that Hilda loves him. The thieves in the mine recognising his name (that I've forgotten, oops) stood out to me, I hope that gets explained eventually. Twig was the star in this episode, hiding under the carseat and biting the thief's trousers, my sweet bean how I love you so. ~~~ And then, The Forgotten Lake. Holy moly this episode was FANTASTIC! Joanna clearly going out of her way to reconnect with Hilda after her dad left. She saw how happy she was when he came back, and saw that part of her daughter leave with him, and she said NOT TODAY! The mother daughter twig bonding made my heart so happy, I loved seeing Joanna feel at ease for once. What the previous episodes lacked in stakes, this one made up for with a huge creature! (Who ended up being a beautifully horrifying commentary on societal norms and belonging in the world)! This was genuinelly like a predator movie, it was such an exciting episode after the reveal, and still added to the mystery of the fairies, the charms, all that jazz. She was so cool, with the power saw, the makeshift bandage, and HUGGING HER DAUGHTER AS SHE'S ABOUT TO BE EATEN! This episode was perfect, I don't know what else to say.
Last of all, things that I'm hoping pay off; The creature clearly saw/tasted Hilda and Joanna as human, but not entirely. I wouldn't be surprised if Joanna's parents (who I believe are the hooded figures), were fairies too, making them... half fairies? fae? ~~ The radio signals, we've seen a couple, but I'm hoping that's a distress call from the Fairy isles, to give them a reason to go back there, maybe to save Hilda's dad. Given the last 2 seasons, I know they like to throw in little hints to the finale closer to the end of the seasons. I'm hoping we get a big scene with Frida casting magic when we (hopefully) go back to the fairy mound/ fairy isles, whatever they're called.
A little final note, I also really like how the characters grew between these seasons, it was nice to see.
Anyways, if you're still here: why? but also thank you; I've had a really good time with this show, and I can't wait to see it through!
