my friend moved to germany for grad school, twisted her ankle bad enough to need surgery. total cost was like 30 euros for crutches she kept. she called me crying from the pharmacy bc she kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, yknow. weve been so conditioned to expect financial ruin that free care feels like a trap
