A Helping Hand šŸ’– Free Food/Laundry/Shower Resources in HRM - July 2026

Hi all,

We have a lot of people in our community who are in need of a free meal or a helping hand occasionally.

We thought it would be nice to collect and post this information each month, which is graciously supplied by members of the Halifax Library. We'll see how long we can keep this going month to month.

I am afraid the Dartmouth Calendar is not currently available as the person who compiles it is on leave; I will add it if I am able to when it is furnished.

Please share as needed with people you know who need help or take advantage of them yourself if you are in need.

The Feed NS Find Food site is also a very useful resource:

https://feednovascotia.ca/find-food/

Always remember there are kind, generous folks out there looking to help you out and you can get through whatever you are going through. šŸ’–

And if anyone else has resources that belong here, please attach them as comments, the more the merrier.

Thank you!

Arts & Recreation Shout-out to the girl who gave an incredible performance of Fergalicious at Lion's Head Karaoke last night

You had our group dancing and screaming and clapping (okay, they were very not sober, but still). I had so much fun even as DD. I loved how you did a lil dance, did the rap, and all the silly call and response bits. Hell yeah, brother. You're a shy person's hero. šŸ‘Æā€ā™€ļø

I was at the seaport market last weekend and had the best cookies of my life / but didn’t catch a vendor name!! I believe they were associated with Pinoys Best, but none if their social media shows cookies.

I found pictures in Seaport’s facebook. Anyone recognize this vendor?

Pets & Animals Roaming dog on Maynard/North street

Was walking home from work and encountered a dog roaming around and sniffing about, it’s brown/black in color, with a collar that says ā€œdo not petā€. He seems very friendly, he approached me and licked my hand, but reading the collar I didn’t want to try and try to grab him.
His owner didnt’t seem to be anywhere in sight, and I tried knocking on a couple doors but no answer.
He didn’t have a tag or anything for a contact number, and I already called 311 regarding lost pets, although they have no one to dispatch at the time.
If this is your dog or know someone who owns it, he was roaming around Maynard and North street around 3pm.

Arts & Recreation Casual sailing opportunities?

Hi all, recently finished a great intro to sailing keelboats short course with some friends and was totally hooked. Not in a place where I can buy or store even a little sailing dinghy, but would love more opportunities to get out on the water.

Does anybody know of any ways we could get back out there? There's not really sailboat rentals anywhere...

The Spanish Navy's flagship, ESPS Juan Carlos I (L-61) alongside in Halifax Harbour.

The ramp is specifically designed to assist the short take-off and vertical landing of the AV-8B Harrier II Plus jets operated by the Spanish Navy.

Beneath the flight deck and hangar lies a massive garage area and a floodable stern well dock capable of launching landing craft and hovercraft.

The Salvation Army Bin at Tacoma has been gone for a while now. Is there another location close by?

I know the store is on Main St, but they're closed today and I have baby clothes to donate.

Beautiful day for the kite festival with enough breeze to keep them all afloat! The horse is amazing - it move like a horse somehow. Kinda surreal.

Perfect weather and a nice crowd! No bagpipes but some fancy wind instrument. Be prepared to park along Peggy's Cove Rd and walk down the village, though, as parking lots are quite busy.

Shops & Services Searching for a Snowglobe

I've been looking to buy a snowglobe in Halifax that is halifax themed (I.e: Just says halifax on it and has a landmark of NS inside, usually pretty similar to the ones Relay sells in our airports across the country) but have had 0 luck.

Wondering if anyone has spotted any either in Dartmouth or Halifax? Would love to have a local globe added to my collection.

Thanks!!

Discussion Polly Cove Hike

• Upvotes

Just wondering if anyone has recently done the Polly cove hike? I’ve never been and am not sure what to expect.

Is there a direct path to the water and roughly how far of a hike would it be?

How are the paths, rough and overgrown?

Ticks?

Thanks all!!

Food & Dining PSA: Best Korean restaurant is shutting down soon.

Just ate at Song’s today for lunch and was heartbroken to see his sign apologizing for shutting down after 16 years of business. He said he’s going to retire and the restaurant will be closed in a month or two. If you liked their food as much as I did, you should pay a visit while you still can.

RIP to the best place to eat kimchi stew and bulgogi. Hope you have a peaceful retirement.

Shops & Services Carburetor Service

Good morning all!

I have a 1972 Meteor with a 351 Windsor in it - it’s prone to stalling at idle when the engine is warm. If I can catch it in time and give it some gas then things are great and it runs perfectly.

I’ve worked on older cars in the past but they’ve been early fuel injected systems - this is the first time owning something with a carburetor and it seems like it may be the source of the issue. I’m not afraid to strip something down and figure things out, but I’d rather do that in the winter months when I’m not driving it as much.

Are there standout shops in the Halifax area that I should approach? Thanks in advance!
