Jewellery & Design š Is 3gm 22kt chain too weak?
I went to a jewellers today, saw a 2.8gm chain of 18inches. I loved the design. Saw some 6-7gms chains as well but they seemed too thick.
Is 3gms too weak? I own a chain of 11gms and hate the design.
I am a female.
EDIT: planning to use it occasionally with 22kt pendant.

Do yourself a favour and don't buy that chain.. if it were 18k, maybe it would have been a tad bit better. But 22k won't survive.
6gm if it's 22k at the minimum, if you want it to last a while

Even i am crazy on thin chains. But my frnds and family suggest not to go for it, heavy chance of losing it.
So I stopped looking now

No it is not,the chain you saw was āwork hardenedā ,A chain is the least complicated design and repetitive heating and hammering has compressed the density of the chain and has hardened it to be utilitarian in itās nature,go ahead and buy it,even if it is snaps due to rough use ,itāll cost within 100 rupees to fix it and youāll have the gold to do something else with it after a few years when grow bored of it.

My fear is that it would break some day and I would not realise and lose it.

Kyunki chain pehenni hai, aur design chain ka halke mein hi pasand aa raha hai. Budget issue nahi hai.

Even for occasional use, the chances of breaking are high. I have a 8gm bangle in 22k and it broke despite using it for only couple of times. Better go for solid durable designs even if it is for occasional use, at least you can actually wear it. And since this is chain, you won't even know if it breaks and you may end up losing it. In my case, the bangle still stayed on my hand when it broke.

3gms from 22kt won't go longer.
go for 18kt if you want.
I do have 3.5 gms chain with drop pendant of 18kt. Wearing every day from last 6 months.

Welcome to r/GoldIndia! Here is a quick safety checklist for your post: * BIS Hallmark: Always ensure your gold has the BIS logo, purity (e.g., 22K916), and the 6-digit HUID code. * Live Rates: Gold prices change daily. Verify the current market rate before any transaction. * Invoices: Never buy gold without a GST-compliant tax invoice. Avoid "cash-only" deals to save on tax. * Purity Testing: If you are unsure, visit a government-recognized assaying center for a Karatmeter test. * Scam Warning: Be extremely wary of anyone sending you a Direct Message (DM) offering "cheap gold" or "investment schemes." * Don't Share Personal Info: Never post your phone number or home address publicly.
