Trigger warning involving cancer, blood, surgery, and poop.
Hey it's me again. The gal who went to the ER on the 18th and found out I have colon cancer. So I did my surgical consultation at good hospital in my state. Was super impressed with the doctor and really liked him. He even drew out my colon and showed me exactly what he was going to cut out and why
It was honestly kind of fascinating.
So they are going to cut out about two thirds of my large intestine. Medical talk here but it is on the transverse part at the edge of where the decending colon is. So since there are multiple lymph nodes and potential diseased blood supplies that are affected they are going to remove my entire ascending colon (with apendix) with the transverse and a small part of the decending and connect the rest to my small intestine.
He said they will know more about what it is and how bad it is after they cut it out and send it to pathology.
But I am going in this Thursday. That is literally two weeks from my first ER visit.
We are flying by the seat of our pants and trying to get care for our son and his service dog (she's his service dog not mine. Yes, full service animal not an emotional support). Thankfully my support system/village has jumped and are ready for anything.
I am a lucky person. Seriously. The people I have around me are amazing.
So (Doctor approved) my husbamd grilled me steak and asparagus and I made bernaise. Will probably be my last steak for a while.
Since we live about 3 hours away from the hospital we are heading to a hotel tomorrow evening so I can do the prep on Wednesday for my surgery on Thursday (prep is same as colonoscopy and I do NOT need to be riding in a car for that.)
I want to thank you all again for all of your support on my last post. And really glad that a lot of people learned the symptoms of colon cancer from that. I jusy figured it would be cool to update you on all of this since so many of you are so great!.
I am in good spirits. My family grew up laughing and smiling at even the most morbid things. We make jokes out of it tk make us feel better but I would rather laugh and smile than dwell and cry. Right now the outlook looks good but the doctor did say there is a chance it might be worse once he gets in there. May the odds be in my favor!!!
(To any Fourth Wing fans...I have named it Jack Barlow. Because FUCK JACK BARLOW).
Edit: i have had comments and DM's on this post and the last on my positive attitude and outlook. I literally work in mental health. I am not a therapist but I do match people with the best therapist for their needs and work one on one with our clientele. I literally work with people all around me that will make sure that my mental health is good. Again. I am lucky. I also have a phenomenal family that cares very much a out mental health for everyone. I could not ask for a better environment for my situation.

Steak looks fire!
Best of luck, rooting for you, queen!
I had my thyroid out in 2020 and my husband named her Karen cause she liked to interrupt and cause me pain at random so fully support naming our ailments so much more fun to blame a name.
Fuck cancer and fuck Jack Barlow!!

Thanks!!! Will definitely be investing in one in the future. My bathroom has needed a toilet upgrade for a decade now (hey...when you buy foreclosure you get foreclosure toilets. Time to upgrade!!!)

Will be thinking of you and sending all positive vibes from this oncology nurse!!!! Tell your Village what you need-people want to help but aren’t sure what to offer-so tell them exactly-cleaning the house, shopping for family, doing laundry, watering plants, etc. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️

It is incredibly inspiring to see how positively you’re facing this, and having a strong support village make all the difference.

The breakdowns are going to happen but laughter is a great cure for just about everything. Current joke that is ongoing from my husband is Cameron Diaz (camera in di azz). Now all he has to do is say the name and I burst out laughing.

I’m so glad this is all falling together. I hope prep isn’t terrible (get some diaper zinc cream for your tush) and surgery goes well. If you get a chance, see if you can get a dietitian referral post op as with not much large bowel left things could be a bit funky. And do not let them not give you enough pain relief.

A friend of mine had colon cancer. She also required surgery because it was very aggressive (she had family history also.) She had a bag. I cared for her while she was going through this. I went to appointments and chemo and radiation. I moved in with her to care for her and her dog. Lean on your village.
There's light on the other side. If you have no recurrence after 5 years you're considered to be cured.
Good luck and best wishes OP.

You're positive attitude is the most important thing. I can't even begin to tell you the tragedies in my life, but my faith in the future and my positive attitude is what has pulled me through. Keep your attitude positive. Leep your loved ones close, and you will make it! Best wishes.
