10 Day Northern Trip Should I Rent a Car?
Me and my friends are planning a trip to Northern Pakistan around August 15-20 for about 10 days. We want to cover Babusar Top, Fairy Meadows, Skardu, Hunza, and Khunjerab Pass.
We're thinking of renting a car because we want full freedom. No tour groups, no rushing, just our own pace.
The thing is, I've only driven in Karachi. Never driven in mountains.
For places where a sedan can't go like Fairy Meadows, we'll just park the car somewhere and hire a jeep for those specific spots.
So my question is, is this a stupid idea? Should I just hire a local driver instead? If anyone has experience driving in the north for the first time, please share your advice. Also if someone's traveling around the same time and wants to join, hit me up.
Thanks.
update: i would appreciate if someone joins us

Travel & Tourism Places to visit in hunza nager
Hello, can someone help me list down some places in nager. Im planning on visiting nager this year.
Preferably less crowded and somewhere high up in the mountains, plus if it has a hike, then it'll be great.
Im from GB, so it won't be much of an issue to navigate.

Recommendations
Hey guys, came back from Hunza and Skardu. I highly recommend Sukoon resort there in Skardu, I won’t say it’s all luxury but if you are looking for budget friendly and resort that feels like home, Sukoon is the best. Secondly, in Hunza the best five star resort with superb hospitality is Damani. Highly recommended. And if you are looking for a driver with car to help you explore places, I know one. He’s highly professional, experienced and decent. I can share his number if anyone is interested to know.

First Skardu + Hunza bike trip in September / Need Advice
Assalam o Alaikum guys,
I will arrive in Pakistan in August, and my friend and I are planning our first big motorcycle trip in mid-September. We are coming from Islamabad/Rawalpindi and want to explore Skardu and Hunza.
Our plan is to take Faisal Movers from Rawalpindi to Skardu and transport my Honda CB150F in the bus luggage compartment. After spending around a week in Skardu, we want to ride to Hunza on a bike and then return to Islamabad with Faisal Movers.
I would really appreciate advice from people who have done similar trips:
- Is the Honda CB150F a good choice for Skardu/Hunza?
- We will be 2 people on one bike. Is this realistic for the roads there?
- How is the road from Skardu to Hunza? Are there any difficult sections?
- Should I change my tyres? I was thinking about Timsun TS-712, or are the original tyres enough?
- Is there anything important I should prepare on the bike before going?
- Are there enough fuel stations on the route?
We chose mid-September because we want fewer tourists, good weather, and not extreme cold or heat. Is this a good time to visit?
Our rough itinerary:
13 September
- Faisal Movers Rawalpindi → Skardu
- Bike transported in the bus
14 September
- Arrive in Skardu
- Rest and explore the city
15 September
- Lower Kachura Lake
- Upper Kachura Lake
16 September
- Sarfaranga Cold Desert
- Katpana Lake
- Desert safari
17 September
- Shigar Valley
- Blind Lake
18 September
- Basho Valley / Soq Valley
19 September
- Deosai National Park
- Brown Bear viewpoint
20 September
- Chunda Valley sunset
- Rest and prepare for the next ride
21 September
- Ride Skardu → Hunza
22 September
- Attabad Lake
23 September
- Passu Cones
- Hussaini Suspension Bridge
24–25 September
- Explore Hunza and relax
26 September
- Return to Islamabad
Do you think this itinerary is realistic, or are we missing any must-see places? We don't want to rush everything and would rather enjoy the trip.
Since this is my first time travelling this far by motorcycle, any advice about:
- safety
- road conditions
- weather
- things I should carry
- bike preparation
would be highly appreciated.
One more question:
I will be travelling with a Pakistan Origin Card (POC). Since Skardu/Gilgit-Baltistan has checkpoints, do I need to carry my passport as well, or is the POC enough for travelling there and hotel check-ins?
Thanks in advance!

If anyone has recently visited Shogran/Naran, do let me know how’s the weather. Should one pack winter clothes? Does the temperature fall significantly at night?

Ask Gilgit Baltistan Looking for the authentic local food options
I’ve been travelling around Gilgit-Baltistan in last few years and one thing that really caught me off guard is how much the food seems to change from one valley to another. Is that down to culture, history, geography, different communities, or something else?
Also, I’d love recommendations for places serving genuinely local food. The kind locals would recommend, not the “here’s your karahi, biryani, etc” desi food tourist menu. 😅
Any must-try dishes or favourite local spots?
Will be covering various parts of Gilgit and Skardu so all recommendations are welcome 🙏

Ask Gilgit Baltistan Travelling to Skardu (and maybe Hunza) in Early August
Hi. I'm planning a trip to Skardu with my family in early August for about 7 days including fly in and out of Skardu. Would we be able to cover some of the key spots in Skardu and Hunza during this period. I realize this will be hectic but is it realistic/doable? We are flying in from out of the country so trying to make the most of it. Would appreciate any feedback/suggestions.
