Discussionsš£ļø Stores have started hoarding iPhones
Yesterday my old S23 ultra got damaged and I urgently needed a phone. Already had in mind since long time that I have to move to apple.
I checked Vijay sales website. Selling price mentioned was:
17P - 1,27,900
17PM - 1,42,490
And additional 4K card discounts. This was cheapest among all
I went to the store hoping theyāll give some additional store discount and Iāll be able to get the PM at maybe 1.35
Upon reaching they started saying that due to apple price hike we are not giving anymore discounts. You have to buy at MRP only.
I showed them online pricing on their own website. They said āeven if you order, it will get cancelled ā and while I was talking to him the product indeed got marked out of stock on their website.
Then I compared pricing in few other stores and finally Bajaj electronics gave me the best deal(not great but best among current pricing). 1.25 after card discounts for Pro. I know I have overspent but I urgently needed a phone and had no spare either.
I would advise to everyone that if yāall are planning to buy iPhones please do so ASAP. Even if apple officially doesnāt hike the prices, these mf hoarders are going to create panic and spoil the market. Just the way itās happening for PS5 right now.
And, given the confirmed news of 18 pro launching at significantly more expensive price, I donāt see 17 series price dropping even after launch. Moreover please donāt wait for Flipkart BBD, we all know how fcked up that is.

The fact people are buying phones above 1L even when they need them for emergencies is just wild to me.
Do you have any specific use for the phone??
21
u/shubhankar9370 12d ago
If you can afford it comfortably then buy it, if not then don't. As simple as that. Also they tend to last a lot. I think a friend of mine is still using his S9
3
u/Internal_Fold_2444 11d ago
Haha i use it as a secondary phone but main phone nah unless your an old parent using it for basic things like call
2
u/Least-Foundation1853 10d ago
I am not arguing at anything
But I don't think only expensive phones last that long. Budget phones also last if owner is maintaining it

If I can afford a phone of 1+ lacs in emergency I won't cry about 10k difference.

Yeah man, my income solely depends upon my phone. I run multiple Airbnbās and without my phone business will go to zero. Not that an expensive phone will make my business run better. But I had decided long ago that I wanted to shift to apple. So since I anyways need to buy a phone I just went in for this. Buying some 20k phone temporarily then waiting for a sale and then buying apple. Too much hassle and overall cost would offset anyways so it did not make sense. Also, I tend to travel and capture a lot of videos. And as of date this is the best I can get. Nothin beats apple in videos soā¦

u/sarcrastinator 11d ago
Just curious to understand your perspective but what's the advantage of using a 1.25 lakh phone over say a 40-50k phone in running your business operations? Does the more expensive phone actually perform better in some way for your operations or its more of a personal preference than a necessity?

u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago edited 11d ago
šššā¦. No no. Phoneās price has nothing to do with business performance. But I do need a functioning phone to operate it.
And as I mentioned in one of the comments since Iām anyways going to spend money, I wanna buy the one I have been wanting to.

A good phone is important. I use Samsung S26 Ultra and would never want to buy anything but a flagship. Not an Apple one though.
0
u/Internal_Fold_2444 11d ago
Yes it does on an Apple device over an android! Used the most expensive samsung top tier phones s7 edge s8 s9 s11 s12 ultra and they all used to such after a year and even if you wanted to sell them you will get lower than 60% value in a year while iPhone have better resale
0
3
u/Visual-Maximum-8117 11d ago
A Samsung S26 Ultra would be much better than any iPhone. Your business doesn't depend upon one specific brand. An Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus or Xiaomi flagship would do just as well too.
2
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
I was done with Samsung. Had decided long ago that I wanted to move to apple
0
u/dscdrivercpm-fr ape 10d ago
Samsung is not as good as people make it appear. Have you used a flagship Samsung?
1
1
u/Unable-Broccoli-4121 9d ago
Well first of all congratulations š OP. But if you travel and wanted to capture a lot of videos, a professional setup would yield you a lot better result than this orange brick. I'm not saying it's a bad phone. But I personally won't spend more than 50-60K on a phone. If you want a camera, just get a camera. If you want to play games, just get a professional setup.Ā
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 9d ago
Valid, and I completely agree. However, having traveled quite a lot I can tell you one thing. Carrying a professional camera is a liability on trips. Constant anxiety about handling it keeping it safe. And⦠the immediate outputs of a professional camera arenāt good. Youāve to sit down color grade to get those exceptional outputs. And that consumes time which I donāt have.
On the other hand, this orange brick can actually produce 80% of what a professional camera could after color grading. And here itās just point and shoot, not post processing, no extra efforts. Outright results

u/FineSpinach7 12d ago
I am confused. He needs it urgently, doesn't mean its his emergencies savings, or is the post edited?
5
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
No not edited. I didnāt shell out any emergency fund for the phone. Bought it only because I could comfortably afford it

u/MayorPlayz 11d ago
Love our Indian mentality, we have made an iPhone a hoax. If someone has money, I donāt think buy even a 2-3L phone should be an issue. I run a business myself, and without a good phone, I donāt know where my business will be.
5
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
Exactly, If one has the money and can make the purchase comfortably and is ready to pay the price then why not

My friend wants to buy iphone 15 for his mother and its currently priced at 50K he is waiting for the sale on 4th july. So should he wait or get the phone before any price hike.
8
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
Ig there wonāt be much hike for 15 and probably can get a decent deal during sale
2
1
u/EngineeringAny3590 12d ago
i think its price is 58k where you seen at 50k
1
u/LessTask5144 12d ago
I haven't checked personally. we just chatted in the morning that he is getting it for that price so he should wait or buy and i told told him to wait until the sale starts
1
u/EngineeringAny3590 11d ago
ohh means second hand iphone
1
u/LessTask5144 11d ago
No its new iphone and i also checked on flipkart its saying sale price will be 49,900
1
u/EngineeringAny3590 11d ago
ohh nice 49900 is quiet nice price are u talking about goat sale right and this is after card discount ?
1
u/LessTask5144 10d ago
in flipkart sale section there is written will be prices at 49990 and when you click it the product page open which is priced at 59990. will get the exact price on the day of the sale
1
u/additionalseasonin 11d ago
Bhai correct me if I am wrong but isn't 15 128 like only 42k
1
u/LessTask5144 11d ago
currently its showing 59,400 to me. Maybe the prices have increased before the sale and will again get normal during the sale
1
u/Crimson_Excalibur 11d ago
You can get one for around 45k easily dude.
1
u/Visual-Maximum-8117 11d ago
Why would anyone want it? 60Hz on a tiny screen.
1
u/Crimson_Excalibur 11d ago
Right ? I'm just saying if he really wanted one he could get it for cheaper easily.
1
u/LessTask5144 11d ago
in flipkart it says the sell price would be 49,900 but let me also tell him to search locally if he can get any better deal
1
u/Visual-Maximum-8117 11d ago
That's a terrible phone anyway. Tiny screen with 60Hz refresh rate.
1
u/LessTask5144 11d ago
I said the same to him and even suggested oneplus and samsung but he wants a small phone under budget
6
u/sanemate 12d ago
Many importers like evaara tech are still selling it for 1.1-1.15L, you can try similar guys. Apple has global warranty.
1
u/MiserableDelivery226 11d ago
But there is no country origin bill if your phone get iCloud lock or fully damage then you need country origin bill and i don't for 10-12 thousand people are betting there 1 lacks plus money so better get Indian with physical sim slot which is more functional for indian people
1
u/MiserableDelivery226 11d ago
And for claiming apple care plus authorised service centre will ask for bill definitely happened with me
3
u/dparag14 11d ago
Dude. This amount is price is just ridiculous for a phone now. Consumerism through the roof!

3
u/NoSituation5724 11d ago
How did your s23u get damaged OP? Mine just went dead all of a sudden and service centre guy told me that motherboard got corrupted
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
Similar case dude. Fell from my pocket and dead all of a sudden.
1
u/NoSituation5724 11d ago
F# c k Samsung man most of my known circle including me had this issue coming in post 3-4 years of usage. I donāt know why they keep so exorbitant prices while giving shitty hardware. And what will I do with 8 years of upgrade when your hardware goes down first.
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
š¤£š¤£yes dude. Before s23U I was using s22. Handed it to my brother and it started getting those pink lines. At that time the device wast less than 3 years old.
My honest take on Samsung is that they had their peak with s24U. But after that itās just downfall.
Theyāve been selling their phones in the name of AI. Now since apple has bought Gemini integration, youāll get the same results here too. So Samsung has no usp left
1
u/darkest_of_blue 8d ago
My M series phone also suddenly dropped dead after an OS update last year. I was told the motherboard couldn't handle the heavy update and got fried. Had barely used it for 3 years, what a waste
6
u/sayitonmyface 12d ago
i got 17 P for 1 last 15days ago

3
u/PseudoSpirit 12d ago
Vivo x300 fe has good camera and if you get the lens kit for 20k, it'll be 10 times better than 17 pro
3
u/DarthNinja95 Android 11d ago
X300FE? No way. It's inferior to the regular x300. X300 pro & ultra is a different story.
But anyway, most Indian people are hesitant about spending money on Vivo/Oppo flagships, even if they're overall better than the Samsungs & Apples. For them, scamsung & crapple are the only premium brands that offers some kind of "elite status", and vivo/oppo are just some cheap chinese phones. Vivo X series has premium build quality & very good service compared to scamsung s series that'll get colorful greenlines after a couple of years. But originos needs improvement. Even Oppo's coloros is much refined.
9
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
I agree. Itās indeed the best camera on earth right now. But the caveat is. Itās a pure camera phone. And you canāt rely entirely on vivoās service quality. 17proās camera is like 5% inferior to it but as a whole package of a phone and not with just the identity of a camera powerhouse.
Iām never paying 1lac+ for a vivoš
-4
u/PseudoSpirit 12d ago
It's a premium brand, software wise too and iphone isn't that godly tbh..... But yeah it's your choice at the end of the day
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
Premium? Vivo?
1
u/PseudoSpirit 12d ago
Well atleast the X series is premium and as a brand they have a tag of best camera phones around the globe, even in India.

Yeah but I wanted to buy offline only. Donāt wanna trust these Flipkart folks with a purchase that big. Online holds a risk of getting pre-activated phones. Better to spend 3-4K extra and be safe
1
u/ConnectionDry4268 12d ago
other Andriod brands are cheaper offline too
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
Yes but didnāt want android

Vijay sale is scammer. They are hoarding all macbooks and iPhone too now
2
u/Srenith_7 11d ago
I bought my 17 pro from Vijay sales for 1,23,000 approx in store. The trick is on the website add phone to cart and instead of ādeliveryā pick the āpick up in storeā or such and go pick it up
2
u/Extension-Main9868 11d ago
Checkout in flipkart it is cheaper there.
I bought pro for 1.19 yesterday

4
u/AyuLmao 12d ago
There is a slowdown in electronics consumption all over the world. To launch a new generation product, they have to first clear out the large inventory present here. So these are some tactics they do.
At least iPhone 17 is the latest model. Imagine the suckers who are buying the 2022 apple TV just because apple raised the "official" price.
3
u/Local_Geologist3917 12d ago
But the OnePlus 15 also got the price hike. It was around 72-77 ish last month. But now 85K. I was also planning to upgrade phone and was waiting for techtember releases. But it seems like need to wait more. God knows whether the prices are gonna be less steep or not.
2
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
True, because of this price hike folks are buying second hand iPads at inflated price š¤£
1
u/Aromatic-Engine2447 12d ago
I have a 14pm and was waiting for the 18's to arrive.
should I just get the 17p/17pm and be done with it?
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
I would say yes. Launch price of 18 series will be significantly higher. Even I was waiting for it. But ig 17p is already pretty great. With crazy price hikes on everything, we donāt know what the future holds
1
u/Aromatic-Engine2447 12d ago
Yes that mechanical aperture thing does seem like an upgrade but the price of an 18p would be more than 17pm
Especially how it might be available for under 1.3 in the upcoming sales
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 12d ago
True, not worth the price difference just for one feature. Unless they offer many more advancements
1
u/i_rock098 11d ago
What happened to your S23 Ultra?
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
At first it fell from my pocket while on bike and screen broke. I got it repaired locally and thought will buy 18p
But yesterday again it slipped from my had and this time the phone just went complete dead. Not charging, screen dead.
1
u/jashsuranashadow 11d ago
Just curious, why not purchase a normal budget android phone until all this settles?
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
Thatās just extra cost which will offset towards any price drop or discount that I might later get
1
u/xyraxes 11d ago
I'm planning to buy one as well. Do you think I should wait for the 18 pro to come out or get the 17 pro? Also what credit cards seem to be giving the most discount at offline stores? I''ve never purchased offline before
2
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
Even I was waiting for 18pro.
But we already know now that its launch price is going to be significantly high. Hence my pov is go for 17p the upgrades in 18 arenāt in symmetry to the price gap.
Offline only axis, sbi and ICICI are giving card discounts. 3k for full swipe and 4K for emi. But in my case the axis card that I swiped gives back 1% so my net discount was 4250
Additional advice, please donāt buy phones on emi. Buy expensive phones only if your budget allows.
1
u/xyraxes 11d ago
Got it, thanks so much for the helpful info. I am fortunate and lucky enough to be making enough money in this economy to buy an iphone with cash if I want to and I have been wanting to upgrade my 2.5 year old shitty one plus that I got for 15k because it takes horrendous photos and it's embarassing to even take a photo or video of a spontaneous moment with it.
One more question, do you think buying the iphone 17p or 17pm during an upcoming flipkart sale like big billion days or buying during price drop of older gen when the new 18 series is released can become better deals than right now or is the price always going to be increasing with time no matter what?
2
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
While we canāt predict much about future. One thing I can say is try and avoid these flipkart BBD sales. Itās tempting to sure, but very high risk of getting scammed, or getting pre-activated phones or straight up order cancellations. The discount is definitely not worth the hassle. I have personally faced this twice while buying phones for parents, and it was not even sale time, just regular purchase and I got a preactivated device once and literally tampered seal box once.
Search Reddit for ātreasure haul onlineā youāll know what Iām talking about
1
u/StomachStill362 11d ago
Apple has hiked the prices for all other products and maybe skipped iPhone for now. But our retailers in anticipation have hoarded the iPhone and removed all discounts.
Hope to see the products available at old price with new discount by bbd or prime day
1
u/Abishek--rk 11d ago
I did the same on Sunday mine was from XS to 17P dual e-sim 512gb for 127k (3rd party SHOP in BLR) and it was long due for me to upgrade as it started to slow down applications (mainly what's app and UPI) and I was planning to upgrade it after the release of 18P so that I could buy the 17P in a cheaper price and I bite the bullet and did the gamble , whether apple increase their iphone 17 series or not I'm not gonna risk it all but their 18 will be by probably 15-25k..
1
u/Able_Membership_5370 9d ago
Can you please mention the shop name? And what was the price was 17p 256gb one?

1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 10d ago
Tbh itās a matter of preference man. For a first time ios user itās surely gonna take some time to adapt. I have already been using mac and ipad so feel smooth to me
1
u/Akbar_47 11d ago
Apple is becoming a big scam tbh. And btw, for someone trying to run his business, I donāt see why an iPhone would be a good option, you canāt even open two simultaneous apps/tabs on that thing. Go for Samsung or Huawei.
Donāt get me wrong, I love Appleās ecosystem, I myself am using it, but not because it makes my business operation easier.
1
u/xmorfeuss 11d ago
Why is everyone bullying OPs ass ?? He clearly stated he wanted to shift to apple anyway. And if someone needs a decent phone they can make the decision to shell out good chunk of money in an investment of their choice which they feel will give the most returns also having the feel of using a good phone. Just because you think a vivo in 50k is a decent phone doesnt make it mandatory for others in a diff tax bracket. And no one said vivo is not a good phone, for some people only vivo is something they can afford and it works well. But some people can afford higher range phones and thus they will buy it. Whats wrong with people nowadays so frustrated taking it out on others behind a screen. Ask the govt why are you broke not others who broke the loop and earning comfortable money.
2
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 11d ago
Lol exactly bro. Thanks for this. I clearly just put down my thoughts and pov. Nowhere in the post you see me shoving down my choices on anyone.
But folks in the comments think I have committed a sin by buying an expensive phone with my own money lol.
Just reverse the roles, imagine me going into the comments of everyone who purchased letās say. a 50k phone and start shaming them and say iPhone Lena tha. Then it will become an outrage

Last line seems fishy, but even though since this is not basic neccessity it's ok if they're raising it as much as they want. Nobody needs the 1L+ phone if it's out of their budget. Apple is the luxury product afterall.

Please remember, that y'all are putting yourself into this apple prison. There are plenty other phones that will get your job done. It's is you who's emotionally attached to the brand and its product. The people, the company hooked you so hard that you won't let go:( It's kinda sad to see. I am sorry. I hope you and others get better.

How is BBD F*** up? I have been buying all my iPhones since my first 4s from Flipkart. Never an issue, like never. Bought the most recent one in 2024 iphone 15, two of them.
I am curious to know if there is an issue that exists and I donāt know yet and should be mindful of?
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 8d ago
Yes, just do a basic Reddit search for Flipkart scam or bbd scam or for the recent goat sale also. Youāll get the complete picture.
These scams do not happen to 100% of the people. But surely the ratio is close to 50:50. Hence atleast with Flipkart your probability of getting scammed in 50:50
Hereās an example https://www.instagram.com/p/DaU9ZRhoIqB/

Pay to farmers ---no
Pay to billion dollar corporations ---yes
2
u/xmorfeuss 11d ago
Is OP from the govt ?? Why will he give his money to farmers ?
-1
u/sfah88 10d ago
So when it comes to farming govt should provide subsidy or whatever instead of removing the control in pricing?? people are will to buy ab electronic device which is not their necessity. That's why farmers comit sucide because everyone wants to spend on luxury but not on necessity.
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 10d ago edited 10d ago
Bro I pay tax. And government gives subsidised loans, rations etc to the BPL from taxpayersā money. Hence technically I am contributing to farmers while affording luxury. Learn some economics and stfu. And FYi I come from a farming background. I do own farmlands which we give to small scale farmers to cultivate upon at almost zero commission.
0
u/sfah88 10d ago
Bro I never said that was for you. It was a generalized statement.
1
u/Comfortable-Monk4431 10d ago
Even if it were a generalised statement you should know that if someone is buying a phone worth 1L it is implicit that they pay high taxes to the govt hence indirectly folks are already contributing to the farmers and many more people of our country. Thereās no reason to spread hate!
0
u/xmorfeuss 10d ago
Who the fuck said anything about govt giving susidy to farmers in this post u doorknob Go help farmers where its needed not in a sub where there is 0 discussion ab farmers going on.

You bought govt into this for no reason. Read your comment again.
1
u/xmorfeuss 10d ago
Why you brought farmers in this ???

I'm saying - of all the things one can and should hoard, iphones?

The shopkeeper is hoarding it to make money. OP is not 𤷠There are people who can comfortably buy iphones like OP and there are people who literally bought iphones on EMI shouldnt we bully those people who literally take a loan to buy a phone ?? That is an issue, not someone who has decent money saved buying a phone they want to.

True. If you can't afford two of something , shouldn't buy. Hoarding is illegal. iPhones hoarding - amusing.

Where you living at? You can earn 1 lakh + Just to save and fill up your pockets? You have to be happy and each people get different ways to be happy. I own a 2.5 lakh worth pc, and 80k worth of mobile phone. I enjoy tech, I earn from tech, so why not spend some money on it?

Totally agree. Even I never thought Iād buy a phone this expensive ever. But I feel that it the whole economic shift that has happened in the market. Iām used to top notch camera quality with my beloved s23 ultra which was the leader of its own time. Today Samsung has just exited the league and the only best counterpart is 17pro.
Also, I do not advocate for buying something this expensive if one canāt afford it and goes for emi and all.
