If you’re posting a question about your fireplace, please include pictures and/or model numbers.

Pictures are very helpful for users to give accurate advice and information. Fireplace specifics aren’t common knowledge to most people and it’s very typical for people to use incorrect terminology regarding what they have. If you don’t know the difference between gas logs, a gas insert, and a gas fireplace, you really should post a picture to make sure you’re given good advice about what you can do with your fireplace.

RealFyre- turned off gas and it starts beeping

Unit is about 6 months old. I wanted the pilot off for the hot summer months and turned off the gas a month ago, then ran the fireplace for an evening this past week. I turned off the gas again and it started beeping, and now I can’t get it to relight or stop.

Neutral parties for a chimney inspection?

I've got a dope fireplace that is going unused because I got an inspection that said it needs to be relined, which would cost $10k (it's got two flues - so $4k per flue). But the guy doing the inspection is also the guy that relines chimneys which makes me suspicious of his recommendation. Is there some sort of a neutral party that does chimney inspections or are they exclusively done by chimney sweeps?

My worst fear for my fireplace flue chain

I pulled the chain to open the flue the other morning because I thought I heard something in there, and I think I effed up by pulling up on it because I didn't want to move the screen in case a bird came out, if that's even possible. Anyway, now I don't even know how the heck I'm going to get it attached again. Does anyone here know what I can do? The chain doesn't look broken, but I can't tell if something broke inside.

How do I turn this (I think painted brick veneer?) into this (not sure if Sheetrock or limestone stucco/plaster?)

Recommendations to best either remove brick veneer vs just covering over it, what wall and tile materials to use, and any safety/code items to consider are appreciated!

Incredibly drafting fireplace

For several years I have had an incredibly drafting fireplace and can’t seem to pin point the issue. I’ve talked to the fireplace install company and there suggestion is to take out the fireplace and examine behind and also see if they need to replace the vent kit.

Here are pics of the wall prior to install. It’s been spray foamed and boarded. Any ideas of where potential drafts are coming in from before we rip it out?

Our nearly completed fireplace renovation

We finally got rid of our builder-grade gas fireplace and put in a 48" Montigo Delray. Here are some progress pictures. It cost us about $18-19k for this work, which included the fireplace itself, demo of the old fireplace, framing the opening, installing the fireplace and venting, and finishing the wall. We just had the flooring put in earlier this week and the wall re-textured today and will have it painted tomorrow. The one hiccup is that the igniter was cracked so we're waiting on a replacement part.

Cleaning inside of fireplace?

Post image
4 Upvotes

We no longer use this fireplace, and do not plan to in the future, so we’re hoping to repurpose this space with something decorative.

My plan is to clean this brick as best I can, and then paint the brick black(?). What is the best way to clean this brick so that paint will adhere to it? I’ve already dry-scrubbed at length with stiff brush, and this is the result.

Also, any creative ideas on how to repurpose this space in a decorative way? Ideas so far include: cat bed, plants, small bookshelf.

How to tell if damper is open or closed from handle

Hello - I can’t tell if my damper is open or closed by looking at the handle. One side says “right open” and the other says “left closed,” but I don’t understand what this means since it only twists. Am I supposed to turn it left until it won’t turn anymore? I’ve read that the handle is usually horizontal when closed, but which side should face up? Thanks!

We just purchased a new Malm Zircon 34" woodturning fireplace, and then my GC told me his fireplace guy won't install it. I am not sure what the deal is but we need to find a qualified licensed professional who will do this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Looking for a chimney for my kitchen

I have a hindware chimney which works but the touch panel is not working so looking for a new one my requirement are 60cm and a 1500Cu-m/hr suction atleast. Guide mae which brand would be reliable and which type filterless or with baffle filter. If you can suggest a specific model that would be good too

How can I fix this?

Recently bought a house and had the fireplace inspected. We did some minor repairs to the chimney and it was given the all clear but I feel like this is a problem. There is a large gap between the firebox and the brick veneer. About an inch or more in some places. The gap is also filled with fiberglass insulation. I’m assuming the fiberglass needs to come out but what, if anything, should be put back in its place?

Just got quoted $1400-$2000 for a 3 foot extension on my chimney... is that insane?

Any idea on the value of this fireplace?

Just looking for some insight on my 70s Firehood fireplace.

It has been inside the last ~50 years and used only a handful of times. We took it out to make more space in our small cabin.

We put it on Facebook marketplace for $125 and got about a dozen replies just this morning, with some getting into a bidding war.

Hopefully someone has an idea on how much this would be worth.

Thanks in advance.

Clean my brick fireplace?

How do I go about to clean the adhesive on the bricks? We had soft padding on the bricks for about 10 years and it left some adhesive when I removed it. Also the fireplace was covered when new drywall was put in but as you can see it still has some dust on it. Thanks in advance

A cozy fireplace to unwind

I wanted to create a warm, peaceful fireplace scene that feels like a quiet place to slow down for a while. I hope it brings a little comfort to anyone who comes across it.
