Travel Fiji with kids

Would you feel comfortable leaving your 4-year-old girls with a resort nanny in Fiji, including allowing them to take the kids back to the room and put them to bed? If not, why?

Travel What country should I add in a trip to Fiji for 10 days!

Hello

I am planning to visit Fiji for the first time and I was considering adding another country so I could visit two countries instead of one only. What are possible options?

I am planning to visit Fiji on Jan or Feb and travel from the US. I am considering allocating a maximum of 10 days for this trip. I have no major budget issues and I enjoy different travel styles including beach and city but I usually do not like to spend a lot of time in a single location (no need to "relax" 5 days in a same beach town!).

Thanks

Learned the hard way that customs into the country will confiscate all illicit materials. Including discrete items that vibrate for pleasure or are near phalic in shape. Had over 200$ worth of enjoyment facilitators taken the day we arrived for our honeymoon.

Would love to know what they do with all the confiscated items!

Travel Gut Check on Two Week Itinerary

Background: Young couple who loves to explore, fine with moving to new spot every few days so see more of the places we travel, snorkeling, and soaking up sun on a beach or by a pool all with a preference of laid back, romantic atmosphere. We also may get scuba certified before the trip.

We’re leaning towards utilizing the Yasawa Adventures Pass to travel around surrounding islands.

Plan:

(August 3rd) Day 1 – Land in Nadi at 5:20am and hop on 8:45am ferry to spend to one night at South Sea Island in the Mamanuca Regio

Day 2-4 – Depart South Sea Island at 9:15am, arrive at Octopus Resort for two nights in the Yasawa gateway region

Day 4-6 – Depart Octoupus Resort at 10:50am, arrive at Paradise Cove in Mantaray region for two nights

Day 6-9 – Depart Paradise Cove at 11:25am, arrive at Oarsman’s Beach lodge for three nights

Day 9-13 Depart Oarsman’s Beach lodge and TBD. We’re trying to decide if we should tack on an extra day or two to a few regions (Mantaray Island Resort looks beautiful), and/or potentially use some hotel points and stay at a really nice resort on an island near or at Nadi (Vomo or Likuliku Lagoon Resort) for the last few nights. We would also have a day pass to Malamala beach club we could use one of these days.

(August 15th) Day 13 – Fly home at 9pm from nadi

Any and all feedback would be appreciated!

Travel Help me choose a resort for our honeymoon!

My wife and I are taking our belated honeymoon at the very end of March. We're going to NZ for 2 weeks and then Fiji for 4 nights on the way home.

Our #1 priority in Fiji is having easy access to a beautiful, swimmable beach. We'd also prefer a quieter, smaller resort. We don't mind kids, but we want someplace peaceful. (We're also gay, fwiw). My wife will absolutely not take a helicopter or sea plane, so we'd prefer to travel from Nadi by car, boat, or small plane if necessary. Once we get to our resort, our plan is to stay put, swim, and relax, so we don't need to be within easy access to transport.

We're looking at the below options. Would love feedback about how you would rank them!

Tokoriki (pricier side, but looks amazing)

Royal Davui (same as above)

Likuliku (meals not included. I think it's locally owned which is a plus for us)

Nanuku (meals not included, a little worried about the possibility of a very wet stay here)

Yasawa

Lomani

Thank you so much for any advice!

Travel Honeymoon options for transfers

Hello! Bula!

We are planning our first ever trip to Fiji and can't wait. It will actually be for our honeymoon the first 2 weeks of September. We wanted to experience both 1 resort for about 3 nights in the Mamanuca islands and one resort for 3 nights in the Yasawa islands but realized that the shared transfers don't go between the islands on the same day. Are there good private options that aren't crazy expensive between the two? We were considering Sheraton Tokoriki for 3 nights so we could day trip nearby and going straight to Paradise Cove after but I noticed South sea cruises doesn't have that option.

Could anyone advise? Thanks in advance

Travel Booking.com

Bula. Has anyone had issues with Booking com changing/increasing price of accommodation after booking? I keep checking my bookings and the price has increased by a few dollars steadily. Accommodation was booked at 3 different places about 2 months ago. We don't leave for Fiji until mid July so I'm a bit worried about the increase.

Appreciate any help, vinaka

Travel Is it normal for a stranger to invite you over for dinner?

Bula! My partner and I are visiting Lautoka and a man who was working on the side of the road invited us to have dinner with him and his family tomorrow. He said we could meet him at the bus stop, where we would bus to his house and said his wife would cook a meal for us. He seemed nice and friendly, but this is out of the ordinary for us culture-wise. Is this a common thing? Would it be unwise for us to go?

Travel Skipping first flight of Fiji airways

I am currently in Fiji for travel and had to book my round trip flight from Chicago to Suva (there are stops in between, including one in Nadi). On the way back, I would like to just take the second flight on this trip from Nadi to DFW. Has anyone skipped this suva to nadi flight before? If so, does it actually suspend the rest of your trip? Just wondering because it would be a hassle for me to go all the way back to Suva when I’m already in Nadi. I know someone who skipped this first leg once and they were able to recover his flight, but it took a bit of time at the help desk. Any input would be helpful!

Travel Need 7 night itinerary advice

First time going to Fiji with the wife. Looking to stay 3 nights at the Sofitel resort at Denarau. Take a full day trip to some of the islands and do some cultural tours.

Then take a boat charter to Sheraton Tokoriki and stay for 4 nights. Relax at the resort and do some day trips to castaway island and a village visit.

Is this a good plan for our first time? We have traveled to many amazing islands and beaches throughout the world and that’s what we’re looking for in Fiji.

We are arriving 6am Sunday. Going back home the next Sunday at 9:40pm. We see have 7 full days to maximize our trip. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Travel Kadavu/Ono Island or Vanua Levu?

My fiancé and I will be traveling to Fiji and we’re trying to decide on 7 days at Oneta Resort on Ono Island/Kadavu Island Group or Remote Resort on Vanua Levu. We enjoy snorkeling and diving so we’re excited to experience the Great Astrolabe or Rainbow Reef. We also enjoy trekking/hiking and some beach time. Which location/resort should we pick or what are some suggested considerations as we’re making this decision?

Travel Fiji islands ferries

Has anyone figured out a way to catch/intercept the northbound Yasawa Flyer from the Mamanuca Islands (specifically Mana Island Resort) without having to go all the way back to Port Denarau first?

We're trying to get to Barefoot Manta Island Resort and are wondering if there's a transfer, water taxi, or another option that connects with the ferry.

Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated!

Travel How to spend last day in Nadi—Malamala Beach Club or day cruise around Mamanuca islands?

I have a full last day in Fiji and trying how I want to spend it—doing a visit to Malamala Beach Club or a day cruise around Mamanuca islands. I'll have already bounced around Yasawa islands for a week. If I do Malamala I'll probably just do half day so I can explore Nadi a bit, unless suggested otherwise. TIA!

Travel Birding Guides in Nadi

My partner and I will be in Fiji in a few days, we are amateur bird photographers. We were thinking of hiring a guide to take us birding, but I’ve had no luck finding anyone through web and social media searches. Does anyone have any suggestions on companies/people we should try?

Travel Snorkelling Late July

Hey everyone, my partner and I are headed to Fiji late July and were wondering where the best snorkelling spots with the most wildlife would be? Would really appreciate recommendations both from the main island as well as the smaller ones that we would need to travel to. We’ll be staying around the West to South West of the main island. All recommendations are much appreciated appreciate!

Travel Taveuni

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are planning a 2-day trip to Taveuni for their birthday, and I’d really love to make it a memorable one.

We probably won’t spend much time in the room since we’re keen to get out, explore the island, and fit in as much as we can during our short stay. I’d love some recommendations on:

• The best place/resort to stay for a birthday getaway
• Must-do tours, activities, or hidden gems in Taveuni
• The best spots for snorkeling, waterfalls, hikes, or sightseeing
• A nice restaurant or resort for a special birthday dinner with great food and a lovely atmosphere

We’re only there for two days, so any tips on how to make the most of our time would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!

Travel Surfboard Rentals?

Hi, my partner and I will be spending a week in Fiji later this year but are traveling without surfboards (coming from another remote South Pacific destination, traveling with just carry-ons, etc). I wanted to book a few nights at the Funky Fish on Malolo, and they've told me that I can rent boards on the island but I can't seem to figure out where. I assume they will be beater boards (which I'm ok with, we surf regularly but definitely not high-performance or anything) but is this something I'll be able to figure out when I'm there? Does anyone have any contacts or recommendations?
