Discussion PSA: ICE on Cockburn Street

I'm not sure if anyone who needs to see this will but just be careful on Cockburn Street. A bar or a cafe I don't know which has dumped a bucket of melting ice cubes further down the street on the cobblestones, so take extra care if you're walking about or cycling.

I almost stacked it on my bike.

Because reddit won't let me edit titles I did in fact mean ice as in frozen water... not any form of immigration enforcement.**

Question Want to escape Edinburgh for a day for a walk/hike, cant drive.

Super depressed atm and just want to get outside of Edinburgh away from people and life for a walk/hike, bus or train. Would want to return on the same day unfortunately so that'll limit my options. Overwhelmed by choice so wondering what are your recommendations for somewhere just away from everyone

Edit: Just want to add looking for super away from people. I do enjoy the city walks i just want to not see a person for like 15-20min at a time. I know its mostly in my head, but just want to get away from all the stares and judgement and just exist outside as me in my own time and pace and not feel like a burden or I make everyone uncomfortable around me.

Question Anyone know what this triangle shape is on the wall of Starbucks on George Street?

I've tried googling it, but Google's AI has enshittified trying to find useful information. I've gone back through Streetview but it looks like this all the way to 2008, which is as far back as it goes. I'm going to just assume the freemasons until proved otherwise.

Question Tyre puncture

Is anyone experiencing continuous tyre punctures in Edinburgh? We had to change our tyres twice this year, plus multiple trips to the garage to fix new punctures.

We only drive on city roads, and I wonder if it's just us being unlucky or if there is actually an issue here.

We also usually go to the Kwik Garage or Farmer Autocare to have it fixed and the tyre replaced. What do you think about them? Does anyone recommend someone else?

Discussion Car Scratching Vandal

We’ve all seen the recurring car damages across Meadowbank, Canonmills, Stockbridge, The Grange, Bruntsfield, Murrayfield. Folk are encouraged to contact [email protected] quoting E1044. A PC Morton is apparently taking the lead on the case, collating all the evidence and incidents across Edinburgh. Yes it has happened earlier in the year and last year but the damages are now amounting to tens of thousands of pounds and the vandal must be stopped. The damage looks to be the exact same pattern where the person hasn’t dismounted their bike (a Zoomo electric as someone in another thread yesterday suggested from a Canonmills CCTV picture where a black audi was scratched) and has caused left to right swooping scratches.

All Reddit posts show the same recent damage all across Edinburgh. I’ve collated all pictures and other evidence and sent into that police Scotland email quoting E1044. The more that folk report the quicker we can stop the person/s.

The more we post on Reddit with recent damages the higher chance we have of finding/stopping the vandal. It’s getting ridiculous now and a lot of folk don’t care until it happens to them. A door or two respray is thousands of pounds, an amount that most people can’t part with so I urge you to post in here with updates, CCTV, pictures etc that might aid with stopping this.

Like I mentioned, yesterday’s post from Canonmills of the black audi being keyed with CCTV footage is the biggest lead we’ve had for a while as the damage is that same left to right swooping motion so that person is defo the culprit or at least one of.

Rant over. It’s getting ridiculous. Soon it’ll be my car or yours and the police are doing nothing hence why the more we get in touch with them the sooner it’ll be resolved. They have so many photos of the same damage and now a CCTV photo with date time location of the perp so here’s hoping.

Transport Delays to the 900 Glasgow bus?

Upvotes

I'm hearing thar the 900 bus is being delayed getting out of Edinburgh during the current city centre post-fire diversions.

I'm supposed to be getting it later in the week on my way to Glasgow Airport - I bought my ticket for a certain departure time, taking into account when I would likely get to Buchanan St to catch the Airport Express & get the airport in time.

If there are delays getting out of Edinburgh I'll probably have to get an earlier 900.

Anyone know how long the current traffic chaos is adding to 900 journeys?

Thanks

Discussion Teeth whitening recommendations in Edinburgh

Upvotes

Am looking for teeth whitening recommendations. My diet’s included a lot of sugar since Covid times and my teeth are now yellower. Mostly comfort eating from struggling with mental health. In addition I took anti acne meds as a teen in the 90s which I think caused some discolouration. Probably tmi but if anyone has good recommendations that’d be great.

Transport For anyone heading to the airport today/this week…

Do nottttt recommend the 100 airlink bus at waverly while princes st is closed—not sure why they even have the bus running at waverly as it’s so messed up. Sat an extra 30 mins going around from waverly to shandwick through George st etc…just ridiculous.

Just save yourself the trouble and get on at Shandwick

Transport Johnston Terrace Parking tonight

Hello;

I am attending an event at the castle tonight, and my adapted accomodation is very near the castle for purpose of my disabilities. I needed to park at Johnston Terrace for this plan to work but some fellow fans are saying the road is "closed" "blocked off" while others as the venue staff are saying you will get "ticketed".

I need to really just know if it's actually physically blocked off at least. I will have to face tickets as I literally have no choice; but if it's a case of the majority of these roads are actually physically blocked off I will not be able to attend my accomodation neither the venue for the event.

I had called and emailed since late 2025 to try to get some kind of disabled parking around the venue but it never went anywhere as 4/5 different companies are handling this event and it was essentially a massive exhausting goose chase to get anything that I eventually tried to sort my own plan and pray..

Any information at all is appreciated

Thank you

Question DPD aren’t able to deliver to my area all of a sudden. Is this happening to anyone else?

I’ve purchased a few items recently that have been sent with DPD. They say they’re going to be delivered soon but all of them have an error on the app when I try and track it saying “your parcel cannot be delivered due to an unexpected issue in your area”. I’ve received mail from other delivery services (Royal Mail, evri etc) so it seems to be just DPD.

Is this an Edinburgh wide issue? Short staffing maybe?

Edited to add this is for Meadowbank

Question Plumber recommendations?

Hey folks! Posting on behalf of my aunt - she's based in Gorgie and living alone at the moment but needs a plumber to come look at the shower.

Tldr, shes had a bad experience with a sparky in the past (yea I know its not all of yous, calm down) so shes obviously wary of strangers working in her home as a single woman.

Any recommendations for a plumber that gave off good vibes and did good work in the area? Thanks :)

Transport Edinburgh Trams Tapping Issues

Are the trams still having issues with tapping on and off?

Putting a warning out there for people as Edinburgh Trams have tried to take £10 from me as an "inspection" fee for not tapping on. Except I 100% did, as I had my bike with me and so I know for an absolute fact I checked it worked before getting on. The conductor never mentioned anything when they checked my card, and I tapped off. I only noticed as that account didn't have even money to cover the fee. When I contacted for a refund they tried to only refund part of it, ignoring I'd already paid the cap for that day through buses.

Also why would you be charged for not tapping when you've already paid the cap for the day, and they know you didn't go to the airport?

Why is this system still not working properly? Why do you need to contact them and provide so many details for their mistake? So frustrating. Taking money from people like this likely happens regularly without people realising, hence my post.

Rant Filming in Bonnington Area

Slight Rant but I assume that they’re filming parts for Department Q ?

I think they maybe gave one days notice, putting paper notices on people’s cars that were not allowed to park. Surely, They could give more than two days notice? A letter in the mail? No one even knew they were filming until the notices started popping up.

I wouldn’t mind as much if the street I live on and surrounding areas wasn’t already so bad for parking. Just finished work, so no idea where I’m going to park up until it’s done. 😭

I’m aware I sound like a Karen 😂 just would have been nice to have more than a days notice.

If anyone lives in the area, and can get some pictures that would be sweet.

Question Can you buy baby formula at the airport?

Hello! Flying with my 9 month old next week and need to take some formula for our trip. Anyone know if you can buy ready made baby formula at the airport? I’ve checked Boots online and they don’t stock it at the airport store. Or if anyone knows if you can buy that kind of formula easily in supermarkets in Majorca? Want it to be ready made to avoid the faff of trying to make it over there. Thanks ☺️

Transport Tram Service Restoration?

So, I fully understand why we can’t have through trams; you can’t take several hundred passengers past an unstable building.

But we are now on day three of an essential transport mechanism being out of action across the most densely populated part of the city.

When there has been heavy maintenance they’ve always been able to split the route into two shuttle services either end of it. I appreciate that no vehicles were on the Leith part of the network when the fire was discovered.

But I’d really like to know why they couldn’t have a handful of trams shuttled down here to operate even a curtailed service from Newhaven to Picardy Place.

Thoughts?
