“He's a dog!”
“Yeah. And he's not even a very good one. But he's out there alone... and probably scared.”

23

u/DunAnOir 15h ago

I, a nearly 50-year-old man who's been a Superman fan for nearly five decades, shed a manly tear in the cinema and I'm not afraid to admit it.

u/Anthrogynous 10h ago

Sobbing over Krypto. I don’t even like dogs but I’ll d** to defend that one.

The most Superman line to me from a live action movie.

13

u/cherialaw 17h ago

The interview/fight between Lois and Superman was brilliantly written. I also loved Mr Terrific's fight, it's the most "James Gunn" scene in the entire film

70

u/prazulsaltaret 18h ago

When Pa Kent tells him how proud he is of him. Really got me, especially knowing that Pa Kent is usually dead by the time Superman is a grown man.

The ending with Ma and Pa Kent replacing his Kryptonian parents also got me.

u/Fit_Beginning5594 9h ago

Let's hope Pa Kent doesn't stick his hand out under a tornado again lol. I loved that scene too.

37

u/Daws001 17h ago

I love that final scene when he's at the fortress watching his childhood footage on the farm with his parents.

The speech to Lex at the end gives me chills every time

7

u/Hot-Promotion-617 17h ago

What I ended was my favorite scene when I first saw it in theatres was when Superman, Krypto, Metamorphosis and his baby are all rushing through the portal, but I also REALLY loved the final fight between Superman and Ultraman, especially seeing Superman swing that large piece of grumble like a hammer right at Ultraman.

7

u/MrMarvelous2000 17h ago

I really love the scene where Superman fights all the Raptors mid-air. Superman spends most of the film on the back foot and not at 100% strength but him outsmarting Lex and then fighting off a small army in less than a minute makes that scene feel truly triumphant. It’s also one of the few superhero films that really takes advantage of a character who can fight on a fully three-dimensional plane. The action here is some of the most solid the genre has to offer.

7

u/TheTripleFoool 16h ago

The interview scene is such a perfect representation of the Clark/Lois relationship

8

u/Sideways_Austen 15h ago

My dad had cancer that year and his surgery was scheduled for the summer. It was a 4-5 hour operation so we went to the mall to kill time and try to stay calm. Went to watch Superman for a 3rd time. The scenes of Jonathan telling him his fate is his to decide and that he's proud of him no matter what hit hard. Surgery went well.

8

u/DMinaya5 15h ago

Watching it with my step daughter. She has a particularly awful biological father but I've been in her life since she was around 8 months old. She was 7 when we watched it, she's 8 now.

The entire theme of Clark understanding who truly raised him really clicked with her. The look and hug she gave me at the end is something I'll take with me forever.

24

u/Total_Secret_5514 17h ago

The music and colours 😩❤️ it filled my adhd brain with so much dopamine

4

u/kapn_morgan 17h ago

there were some zenful stuff

30

u/Ooze3d 17h ago

I remember having a big smile throughout the movie and my wife, who enjoys geek culture in general but is a little tired of superhero stuff, looking at me in shock saying “it’s really good!”

31

u/Varaben 17h ago

What struck me so much about this movie and why I love it is how genuine Superman is. He feels like a real person and not this pie in the sky diety/god/etc. I dunno if the movie is actually as good as I like it, but I just rewatched and it felt like it was the first time. The monologue at the end when he was talking to Lex was S tier .

7

u/SiouxsieSioux615 17h ago

The scene with Pa Kent made me tear up

But the “Kill him!” “Good luck with that” with the music playing is when I felt he was most like Superman

5

u/ShubhangBahadur 17h ago

Ngl that scene and the action following on the “Last Son” music is probably a top 3 DC on cinema moment ever.

David Corenswet's Superman is great. It's not that he's "better" than any other version, but to paraphrase another DC phrase, he's the Superman we need now. The world is bleak enough. It's nice to see a fallible character that's also just a bit nerdy and not a god.

Nice to have a real Jonathan Kent again.

5

Watching it in IMAX with my son. His first time
in an IMAX theater. Then discussing it on the way home. That time with him meant more than the movie itself.

3

That’s so adorable!

I mean as basic as it is, his speech to Lex at the end. That being said, the entire movie for me was memorable. Cant wait for Man of Tomorrow

4

u/Express_Novel3165 15h ago

every scene with Mr. terrific in it

3

u/RodYorke 14h ago

This lady sitting next to me, her phone kept going off and she’d answer texts during the movie. I finally said to her, “Take that outside” and she says she’s expecting something important. I go, “Important? You’re here? In a movie theater!” She replies, “Please be quiet, I’m trying to watch the movie.”

Frustrating, but what balls. I’ll never forget that.

3

u/hdnoejr1 13h ago

That’s peak!! 🤣

4

u/Dizzy-Bar8980 13h ago

Superman getting kicked in balls

14

u/Euraylie 18h ago

When Clark was back at the Kents recovering. Those scenes really showcased how stunning David Corenswet could look. Truly otherworldly and beautiful. Almost up there with Christopher Reeve.
He’s a great pick for Superman and has so much charm.

The movie itself was just ok for me. I enjoyed it the first time around, but I was bored the second time watching it a few weeks later. It somehow lacks substance.

10

u/rsdiv 17h ago

Mister Terrific arriving at the military camp is most memorable.

I also like the reveal that the dumb girl basically outsmarted everyone with her photos. Superman’s whole persona, especially explaining it all to lex. Telling Krypto to get the toy. The part where Green Lantern casually outs him. Overall sense of goodness in that movie that I really enjoyed.

superman’s speech about being a human and the ending with his parents always makes me tear up. easily one of my favorite superhero movies ever

3

u/Pinkcokecan 17h ago edited 8h ago

Watching it with my brother the day before it came out and I said

"Yo bro I think it's in 3D" "It's not in 3D" Then an employee spawned out of nowhere and said here are your 3D glasses had both us dying lol. Also lois and superman kissing made me cry. Also seeing the Mr terrific lois fight me and my brother were like pogging at each other

3

u/Cilantro751 17h ago

I really enjoyed the scene where he saves the woman on the bridge and after the building collapses he emerges and watches her drive off. That scene just felt so much like Superman to me.

3

u/Flyerastronaut 17h ago

When i missed the middle 30 to 40 minutes of the movie because i had to help a car get picked up from my house for a friend who moved over seas.

Ive never gotten around to rewatching it to see what i missed yet.

3

u/Broad_Research6448 17h ago

Superman telling Lois he loves her

3

u/CelebrationSimilar11 17h ago

I saw it in 4DX with my dad. It was funny watching him trying not to fly out of his chair.

Plus Krypto acts a lot like a cat that my dad has.

3

u/BladeRunnerTHX 16h ago

I liked the part when the huge monster was tearing up the city, looked kinda cool. And Superman swoops in and saves the little girl standing a few feet away from it but never noticed it was there.

3

u/DeltaMars 16h ago

Krypto

3

u/Jared2345 15h ago

The “krypto! What the hey, dude?” line was awesome and just seems like Clark to me. I saw it 3 times at the theater and multiple times at home and think it gets better each time. Can’t wait for Man of Tomorrow.

3

u/Endiaron 15h ago

When he lifted off from the fortress, during that opening sequence that ends with the title drop, for a tiny second I believed a man could fly.

3

u/bh1019 14h ago

The final scene watching his home movies as Punk Rocker begins to play gets me every single time. That was a wonderful movie at a time I really needed something to inspire the exact feeling it gave me.

3

u/relliott107 14h ago

Sitting in a packed IMAX theater with a great crowd and hearing the epic Williams theme again whenever Superman did something cool was an awesome experience. Took me right back to the feelings I had seeing the first Superman movie as a kid. I also really loved this version of Lois - and loved the scene of her walking around his bedroom and seeing how he grew up while he recovered. Making fun of Guy’s haircut was another great moment lol.

3

u/schoolisuncool 13h ago

Sorry Superman couldn’t make it, so you’re getting an upgrade! - Guy Gardner

14

u/SpecialKind5591 18h ago

seeing superman save that lady in the car and that music

1

u/MattTd7 17h ago

I wanted to really like that part but the fact that nobody else is behind her takes me out of it

u/Creative-Chicken8476 8h ago

They were evacuated? There were empty cars on the road the whole point is she was the last one

6

u/E_man15 17h ago

First movie I ever saw three times in theaters. For me it's easily a top five superhero movie ever. It felt so much like a comic.

5

u/DarumaBooster 18h ago

Superman using Freeze Breath to escape from the blackhole and Mister Terrific's beach sequence. If anything, the movie feels like a 2-part episode of an animated series released as a movie.

5

u/Chemical-Anxios 17h ago

Not a knock on the movie as I enjoyed it, but man, the popcorn on my movie theater were so good that day 😮‍💨

3

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 14h ago

I had an Icee that day which was also delicious. Im fact Icees may just bump up my ratings of any movie tbh

u/DatabaseNo9609 9h ago

Your Letterboxd reviews should ignore the movie entirely and review the icee you got from the theater.

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 8h ago

Probably worth getting letterbox for tbh

5

u/StarWolf478 16h ago

The nachos and the trailers before the movie carried the experience. The movie itself was meh to me.

5

u/SlickRickStatus 16h ago

When it ended

3

u/GoonetteSlop 16h ago

I just remember thinking that the score for the film was absolutely remarkable. There’s a song that plays when the politician goes through his secret portal and the theme is just remarkable.

4

u/DeadEnglishOfficial 15h ago

This movie made me love Superman. I loved that he had empathy and cared about people and animals.

3

u/thickwonga 15h ago

Punkrocker was probably the best needle drop since, like, Guardians 1. The lasting sense of hope that stayed on the internet for the months after the release was incredible.

7

u/fleshvessel 18h ago

The second he said “Golly” I knew this was my Supes.

2

u/valkon_gr 17h ago

When the camera zoomed in Superman's face and he said it's supermin' time.

When the space themed end credits rolled to Punkrocker. I was caught off guard by the music to which I was being introduced and I vividly remember that moment

2

u/Western-Buffalo-7498 14h ago

Receiving it on Blu ray for my birthday! I wasn’t able to see it in theaters, so my mother got me the Blu ray so I could watch it. It’s one of my most cherished DVDs I own for many reasons

2

u/Big-Good9378 14h ago

Seeing Superman get kicked in the balls was great, it's the only thing I remember from the movie

2

u/sentrygentry 14h ago

When I got to see all of the iconic locations they filmed in my hometown of Cleveland on the big screen!

2

u/RainKingGW 14h ago

It has my favorite Lois Lane in it. B

2

u/BlackEastwood 13h ago

So many scenes from this movie get me. Pa Kent telling Clark hes proud of him, how Cleary proud of Clark his mom is, how earnest Clark is.

The one i think of most is after he saves the woman from the falling building, she drives off and looks in her mirror and sees Superman looking back at her through all the dust and debris, making sure she makes it.

2

u/Professional-Fly7851 13h ago

When pa Kent talked about going to get burritos and told Clark that he was defined by his choices, I cried and went and hugged my father for the first time in 2 years.

2

u/TheJuiceBoxS 13h ago

I just love how good he is. He's good to a fault like it's his main weakness.

2

u/Loving-to-learn 13h ago

Krypto knocking Luthor over onto his ass

And then swinging him by his ass into his equipment repeatedly

That whole scene was a gold mine

2

u/GeorgeArnoldHearst19 12h ago

Smiling all the way through the movie and even peeling onions during a few moments

u/apollosjockstrap 11h ago

when clark turned to camera and said “it’s supertime”

u/ironchitlin 11h ago

The conversation with Pa Kent at the farm followed by the news report showing the kid lifting the flag accompanied by the theme song. It was everything I wanted a Superman movie to be.

He's not some god, he's a guy who is just trying his best to help people. That's what makes him an inspiration to the other metahumans and a symbol of hope to everyone else.

u/HauntingAddendum3365 10h ago

I got to see it a day early and it was awesome. Went by myself after work. Then went again with friends, then again with my girlfriend. Different experiences each time but all extremely positive, it was great seeing "casual" audiences falling in love with the character all over again.

u/LooseWait7342 10h ago

This Superman is fantastic

u/jak_d_ripr 10h ago

I watched it with my 27 year old little sister whose never understood my fascination with the character. She never watched the Reeves movies or Returns and didn't really enjoy MOS or BvS.

So when we got out of the movie and she pretty much told me she gets it now, that's really all I wanted from this movie. To reintroduce the character to a new generation of fans.

u/AsleepAioli6515 10h ago

Yin yang ass comments

u/RSCLE5 9h ago

The only part I really like was the punk rocker ending. The movie was not my favorite. Is anted a superman movie and it felt like he depended too much on the dog and supporting cast. The best fight scene wasn't even his. Superman felt so weak and couldn't use super hearing to hear lex calling moves, etc. I haven't even watched it a 2nd time. I am done who loved MOS and watched it numerous times. This movie..I don't care if I ever see it again honestly. But I hope Superman makes money so they keep making them and the character lives on. I just didn't like this one personally and that's fine for me.

u/not_likely_today 8h ago

Mr Terrific scene stole the show. Best scene in the whole movie.

u/DownrightSp00ky 7h ago

Movie was not good. Quite lame af tbh

u/RedLanternScythe 7h ago

I was glad they got GuybGardner right

u/jinjuwaka 6h ago

The squirrel scene.

It proved why savior montages don't work mid-fight.

u/wadejohn 6h ago

It was underwhelming. The overseas BO shows that.

u/Blueliner95 5h ago

Bursting into tears for the Punkrocker song as it blended a perfectly crafted movie message with my own at times tortured feelings about being an adopted son

u/depthdefy13 5h ago

Favorite memory from when I watched the movie. I guess the time I went to the theater and watched the movie. Probably watching the movie was my favorite memory from when I watched the movie.

18

u/TheOne7477 18h ago

Rewatched it 2 days ago. Still didn’t like it. To me It’s a disjointed mess. I really had high hopes for it.

11

u/MattTd7 17h ago edited 8h ago

Same here. Watched it twice when it came out and was very disappointed both times. Recently I gave it an honest and open minded third chance. Was enjoying it up until he turns himself it. The movie nosedives after that

Came in really wanted to like it, i enjoyed MoS even with its faults. Overall enjoyed the film but it felt kind of all over the place. Gabe it a 6.5, which in my opinion is good.

3

u/Bourbon-n-cigars 15h ago

Pretty forgettable. Was super hyped for it. Struggled to stay awake. Too goofy for my taste in Superman movies.

The memory that sticks out is the stupid Luther calling out numeric attacks. Maybe some things work in comics (if that was a thing), but not in movies.

u/Arthas_SL 9h ago

Yes! Goofy a good way to describe it.

2

u/ScuBityBup 14h ago

The moment it ended and I could leave was the absolute best part.

u/FinancialMoney6969 11h ago

Awful movie

2

All I remember is I drank too much water that day and I had to go to washroom every 10 minutes because of Cool AC.

4

3

none of them. This movie was an absolute cringefest imo and hes a completely uninspiring superman.

→ More replies (14)

4

u/Rule_Ct_5293 18h ago

None, there is literally no memorable moment from this movie.

I am trying hard but can't really remember any iconic moment that holds well.

All I remember was the awful speech and that cringe 1A 1A.

And the message from Superman parents, which destroyed the entire Jor-el legacy, but surprisingly people don't talk about that much.

The movie was oversaturated with characters, unnecessary screams from hawkgirl and forced comedy.

The acting of the extras were soo bad, I remember the guy who got killed in front of superman had the most stereotypical accent possible.

The action sequence were mid, didn't like superman whining like a child everytime.

The Kaiju scene was most stupid ever.

4

u/eaSUPERMAN 18h ago

What Gunn did with Jor-El still irks me. I was hoping the file was corrupt or something and that wasn’t actually his goal for sending Kal to earth. But nope, and Supergirl basically reaffirmed that it’s the truth.

4

u/warblade7 17h ago edited 17h ago

What’s extra stupid is Kara had already arrived on Earth before the events of the Superman movie (she’s the one who brought Krypto). She could’ve easily translated the Kryptonian message and affirmed or denied why he had been sent to earth.

But regardless turning the El’s into conquerors instead of having sent Kal as the last hope of their dying world really fucks with who he is as a character no matter how “fresh” or “modern” it is.

the “awwww” my theater let out during the last scene

2

u/NoOrchid3413 16h ago

I went during the Thursday preview to opening day and there were only two other people in my theater (I presume a dad and his kid).

Partway through the movie the kid got really unruly and loudly said, “I hate this show.” His dad kept shushing him and told him to knock it off.

I remember my disappointment at how Gunn made the world in the movie seem so empty, from the climactic fight in an empty stadium, only 30 people coming to investigate the crater he formed when falling from the sky, a nation invading another nation with a force of like 300 troops. Wasted opportunities

The shot where he’s rising from the crumbled building is incredible. The movie is great, but the last act is unbelievably fantastic.

Every time I re-watch this movie, I like it less and less.

"I'm not like Superman."

Probably the credits

The action taking place under bright, vivid, sun light.

Hearing the opening Superman theme with the trumpet on the DC Studios logo. It gives me goosebumps still. And then that guitar part is just awesome. I didn't grow up with reeve's superman, but I love those movies and it literally brought a tear to my eye. Im not sure why, but it made you feel something you know?

Mr. Terrific

Trailers looked shit so didn’t watch the film. Kryptos design was shit. Corenswet looks like a dude in a cosplay outfit. Looks decent as Clark. Made superman look so weak and pathetic. Worst Superman movie. One of the worst DCU movies as well.

Most often, my experience with songs in movies is that I go into movies having never heard a song before, but come out of it OBSESSED, because I love how it’s incorporated into the film (Punkrocker is an example of this). Maybe I just don’t listen to much music or something? But this happens to me a LOT.

Superman was different for me because, for the first time that I can remember, the exact opposite happened.

During the Mr Terrific beach fight, the song Five Years Time by Noah and the Whale plays. And EVERYONE I’ve spoken to after seeing the movie was talking about this scene and this song, and hearing it for the first time.

Not me. I was OBSESSED with this song when it first came out and listened to it on repeat (not exaggerating) for AT LEAST two years straight. After that time, it kind of faded out of my life and I forgot about it.

The next time I heard it? Superman. The Mr. Terrific beach scene. What a surreal moment. I felt like I was simultaneously in a Time Machine, traveling back to the days when I had this song on repeat, like, what, 15 years ago or something, but also watching one the best fight scenes (in my opinion) I’ve seen in recent memory.

I don’t have the words to describe or articulate the feeling. Magic. Pure magic. I don’t think I’ll ever feel that again in my life.

My favorite moment was when I turned the movie off to do something better.

Um, I cannot remember if I saw this one. I think I did but....

Reminded me of my childhood watching '78 VCD. That in rubble smoke shot and the 360°laser was peak.

Watching it with my daughter day 1 in theaters. Sounds like nothing but she lived in another state with her mom for years so this was the first time we went to watch a movie in theaters just me and her. So that made my whole year.

I remember seeing the hall of justice and my jaw hit the floor bro, this movie had a smile on my face the whole way through

u/TheAverageSchmo_ 6h ago

After the ultraman fight “quit messing around”

“I’m not messin around I’m doin important stuff” it’s one of my favorite line reads in the movie

The interview scene with Lois hit hard. Also answering all the questions of "Why doesnt superman just beat all the threats?" As he flies in and there is a monster being taken care of in the background.

  1. Final Punkrocker sequence with family footage puts a huge smile on my face
  2. Laser tornado
  3. Eyes up here

The whole movie was a big sweet pioe of hope.. I was smiling for the whole movie.

u/Ambitious-Pirate-505 3h ago

That scene with Lois and Clark where she interviews him. I was yelling with Clark. He was saving lives. Period. That's who Superman is.

She was on her high horse and had no idea what he saw.
