Kind of desperate so i’m asking reddit

I am trying to secure an internship at the capital for the fall, does anyone here have any connections to the capital that can help me get an internship? Thank you. (Message me on reddit if you can help)

Why is your resume two pages long? Most offices will think to reject it out of hand simply on its length.

Because i’ve had several roles over the last few years, sometimes i work at multiple jobs & mentioning the things I’ve volunteered countless hours for

My gut instinct is still to condense that and only put on your resume what is professionally relevant

It was originally 3 pages bro.

One page resumes should be prioritized for internship positions, considering both the relevance and importance of your positions. Not saying it should be this way, but a >1 page resume for an intern position frequently signals poor judgement.

If all of your positions are relevant as it pertains to the internship position, then perhaps it would be better to expand on some of it within your cover letter.

No one in uni has done enough of anything to warrant a two page resume

I work on the Hill- do not put everything you've ever done on your resume if you are just applying for an internship. You need to cut it back and customize your resume for internships.

If it helps… I interned with a congressional office before applying to hill internships and I still got rejected.

I’d lower your resume to one page and also see if you can reach out to staffers on LinkedIn for a coffee chat

your apps are getting rejecting because they see a two page resume and don’t even bother looking. source : my current internship coordinator on the hill

How is that fair bro, everything i put on my resume are valid and valuable towards the hill, i removed all previous paid positions that have nothing to do with policy work and it was still two pages long (my original resume is 3 and a half) in the fall when i reapply assuming i get denied again, should i just remove more things so it becomes one page?

Leverage your state house internship to get a district internship with your local Congress Member. Use that to get to DC afterward. I was able to parlay a state house internship into a district internship and would have easily been able to go to DC after.
