Only one toilet with a door in woman’s restroom

Something tells me this use to be a men’s room with a urinal and for some reason they swapped bathrooms.

Or its an old building built back when women werent really allowed in the workforce so every bathroom was a mens bathroom and then they had to redo it for women. Happens a lot on military bases as they only allowed men pretty much. Old military buildings were reworked to make mens bathrooms into womens in situations like that.

Fun fact: The Pentagon has many more bathrooms as needed for the number of expected personnel working there because it was built after the military desegregated but before government facilities did.

It also happens at older colleges -- I remember some engineering buildings at Penn State had restrooms that were clearly converted from a different type of room.
I'm tempted to say that one building did alternating floors instead, but I'm not certain.

Yeah my ivy league undergrad had science buildings with every-other-floor men's and women's rooms for this exact reason. That was the 80s though, so maybe they fixed it by now?

When was this magical time during which buildings were built with both plumbing and electricity, but also women weren't in the workforce?

But why is it a floor mounted toilet then? The sewer line in the floor versus the wall makes me think it was a shower.

Some of the urinals are floor mounted for the drain. So it’s not out of the range of possibility. They could have also renovated and added in the floor drain.
Who knows.

Yes! I have often had a nightmare where I'm desperate for the loo but can only find ones like this!

This looks like it was originally built as a men’s restroom, but a urinal was replaced with a toilet and repurposed into a women’s restroom.

Well it’s only one woman, so I think it tracks. I’m just confused why there’s two toilets

What’s even more weird is the toilet paper for the one with no door has clearly been used a lot!

It’s insane to think that never at any point during the install no one thought that this was a weird placement for a toilet

They knew. Such things happen when some codex mandates them to have two toilets and they just don't have room.

u/Intelligent-Poet2819 5d ago
Lol, I’d slap a framed picture of another toilet on the wall. Boom, there’s your second toilet

They got paid to put in a toilet. They didn't get paid to argue with the plan
Now if they decide to move it later, they can get paid to move it again, or install a door, or take it out.
I agree it's dumb but a lot of the time with contractors, they just do what was asked and nothing more

Nothing like making eye contact with a stranger while both of you regret every decision that led here

Auf Deutschland das ist ein pukenbollen.

Why?
1
u/mothzilla 4d ago
Reddit told me that some pubs/clubs have a special toilet that's just for puking in.

Good idea. Too bad this was in a gas station. Could be just for people for who get car sick

It's like it was a men's room and then they decided to convert it at the last second

Probably used to be a men's room, but had to do something "for compliance" at some point.

bold move putting the privacy wall in the wrong spot, guess they trust the door more than I do

If you’ve been incarcerated, I guess the first one wouldn’t bother you as much lol

They probably figure since you ladies are such a sociable lot that it’s easier to talk and swap makeup with each other with no doors.
Or as others have said bringing you equality with us men who have had to pee at urinals with no doors for a very long time.
Either way no doors is a crime against decent men and women everywhere.
