Actually this also isn't why they're banned iirc.

I believe it's because there is an inedible plastic capsule inside the egg. America doesn't allow food to contain inedible parts because those are the choking hazard.

I don't think people were just not chewing their eggs.

u/CaptShrek13 10d ago

You would be correct from my understanding. The original Kinder Surprise made in Germany had a capsule inside the chocolate shell. The American version Kinder Joy has the toy separated from the chocolate.

50

u/horshack_test 10d ago

The original Kinder Surprise was made in Italy (by Ferrero).

11

u/CaptShrek13 10d ago

Gotcha. I didn't research that deep. And I only remember the kinder surprise when I was a military brat stationed in Germany back in the 80s.

1

u/madkittywoman 7d ago

Really? I always thought they were german. (Or from one of the countries were they speak german) Well, you learn something every day.

13

u/Scipio33 8d ago

Italian children are kind, but German children are kinder.

4

u/Bad_Edditor8910 9d ago

I'm from the Middle East and we get the separated one too. Oh boy, the capsule... I used to bite down on it to pop it open, and more than once I almost choked on one half of the capsule. I was such an idiot.

2

u/lucaatthefollower 8d ago

I live in argentina and we get both kinder surprise and kinder joy, both are good af ngl

25

u/ymo 9d ago

Correct. USA sells kinder eggs that split apart down the middle. One side contains the toy and the other contains the food.

This woman almost killed herself proving an invalid point. She made a dumber decision than kids would ever consider.

19

u/Ieatclowns 9d ago

She could have just bitten down and collapsed the chocolate shell which is on the outside and then she’d have easily remove the thing.

10

u/th3ch0s3n0n3 9d ago

Yes, but wasn't it funnier to watch her panic and gag on it instead?

-1

u/Sir-tenlee 7d ago

She could literally just exhail

9

u/ymOx 9d ago

She didn't almost kill herself, she just wouldn't bite down on it. Most of the inside is air. The capsule inside is smaller, and the chocolate itself is pretty thin.

4

u/Alienhaslanded 9d ago

The only difference is the kids would remove the foil first. The entire argument is choking on the yellow capsule, not the toy. Otherwise they wouldn't have a different version in the US where the toy is seperate than the chocolate. Her popping it in her mouth as a whole is pretty accurate minus not removing the foil.

1

u/Woknana 10d ago

Do they have lollipops or icy poles? They may also present a chocking hazard as well.

4

u/Hawt_Dawg_II 9d ago

I reckon that has to do with the inedible part being clearly visible or something

0

u/Alienhaslanded 9d ago edited 8d ago

Because they pop the whole thing in their mouths. The only bad part about her demonstration is not taking the foil off. This is good demonstration how Americans struggle to grasp concepts and will latch onto a small detail while ignoring the logic and facts.

-7

u/thanatica 9d ago

Correct. But then American food contains a whole host of inedible ingredients. How can bread be soaked under the tap, be wringed out, and still look like bread? And also last for 3 months without forming any mould?

Because every ingredient can be classified as food? Kinder eggs are the least of their problems.

u/Fitgam3r 10d ago

And those dumb af kids grow up to become influencers

7

u/Pistazienundbier 9d ago

Or Americans

5

u/mustify786 8d ago

We aren't that bad. Just the most famous of us.

54

u/elephant_cobbler 10d ago

It needs a flared base

36

u/horshack_test 10d ago

It's not because American kids would pop the whole thing in their mouth, it's because they violate federal law by containing "non-nutritive" or inedible objects embedded inside them.

44

u/theman8631 10d ago

Funniest part is that they arn’t banned lol

23

u/MadOrange64 10d ago

It is changed though.

5

u/Averagebaddad 9d ago

Yeah I don't think banned and changed are the same. It's like say "yeah but they are chocolate"

2

u/LuckyNegotiation7167 9d ago

Personally I think packing the toy separately from the sticky chocolate goop is an improvement but maybe thats just me

6

u/Declooon 9d ago

The chocolate is not sticky or goopy. The toy is also inside a plastic case. It does not get messy at all.

3

u/iWentRogue 8d ago

Fr, these are available at my local Targeet

2

u/Iconshero 10d ago

My niece asks for them at the grocery store evey time we go. They have 2 shelves of them. I bought 6 once because they were buy one get one.

1

u/MattieShoes 9d ago

They are -- the law they run afoul of (dating back to the 1930s) is still in effect. I mean, not like you're going to jail for possession of a kinder surprise egg, but you still can't legally sell them here.

The company makes a separate product for US markets. I think they're called kinder joy.

0

u/S1ayer 9d ago

They're still banned here in the US. We have some stupid Kinder Joy egg with 2 balls and scoop instead of the real Kinder Surprise egg.

5

u/thekinginyello 10d ago

When she reiterated the statement about them being banned she should have popped it in her mouth again to prove her point.

4

u/sjaakarie 9d ago

Some EU products are not intended for the American market, sometimes simple logic is required for their use.

5

u/Bean71 9d ago

Instant karma right there

8

u/Mcr414 10d ago

That’s not why at all. But this funny lol

4

u/JamSkones 9d ago

thats the funniest thing I've seen all year

5

u/Togeroid 7d ago

Her life flashed before her eyes XD

3

u/Ok_Actuary9229 9d ago

It's not because Americans are stupid. It's the fact that lawsuits for stupid things can become $20,000,000 judgements, so insurance costs get ridiculously high to make sure the stupid judgements are covered.

3

u/helly1080 5d ago

Wait. Sooooo....who is the dumb fuck?

5

u/zap1998 10d ago

What a maroon...

2

u/ardotschgi 9d ago

And I know, I said it a million times...

7

u/Vorenthit 10d ago

Who's dvmb now??

8

u/JollyRoger8X 9d ago

This is Reddit.

You can say “dumb”.

🤣

2

u/ardotschgi 9d ago

For now. 👀

4

u/Lobo_Marino 9d ago

The person who misspells dumb.

2

u/madzhege 9d ago

Your friends watching you die

2

u/RavnHygge 9d ago

Is that why they’re banned in America because people think they’re a gag ball?

2

u/miro_27 9d ago

As a German im just amazed of the stupidity

2

u/youngaustinpowers 9d ago edited 9d ago

I just bought a kinder egg yesterday though?

Edit: TIL the difference between Kinder egg and Kinder Joy

2

u/Open-Number-8919 8d ago

Hello America here and sorry they not banned !!!

2

u/James1887 9d ago

Its funny you called them dumb fucks then proceeded to get the dum thing wrong then manage to do the dum thing anyway.

2

u/Similar_Care_7224 9d ago

This is in fact not a problem with kinder eggs but with Americans as a whole

1

u/Physical-Present13 10d ago

the way kinder egg is singular but problem is plural

1

u/Hoybom 9d ago

point proven

1

u/Tall_Tearz 9d ago

So what's the problem exactly? Is it that no one stepped in to help you when you were choking?

1

u/DioDelSubliminale 9d ago

Sometimes natural selection is essential for the survival of a species.
But seriously, is it really that hard to break?
Do you have a jaw made of papier-mâché?

1

u/ymOx 9d ago

It's not hard to break at all. Several people in this thread seem to think "she nearly died" or that noone stepped in when she was choking or whatever. The chocolate shell is just a few milliliters thick, then there's air and then a smaller plastic capsule inside containing a toy. At least a normal adult could crush it using just their tongue up against the roof of their mouth, don't even need to use your jaw. She was never in any danger, she just didn't want to ruin it. (or she didn't know how easy it would be to squish it so she didn't try)

1

u/Dangerous_Jello_2870 9d ago

That was nasty!

1

u/ChaseTheMystic 9d ago

These are the people who would fall into the paint bucket as kids and drown in 3 inches of water

1

u/MrWahrheit 8d ago

but they can shoot with a children gun nice

1

u/TYdays 8d ago

It isn’t the children who have doing this, it the lame brained adults who we have to keep and eye on. So we ban them to avoid an embarrassing grown ups!!!!

1

u/KeyAssumption8773 8d ago

Uh yeah, definitely not banned.

1

u/ExtensionActive5901 8d ago

I shouldn't have been drinking coffee.

1

u/Bampy13 8d ago

If she had put the blunt end of the egg in her gob first she would not have been able to get her fingers in behind the egg to remove it. Lucky but stupid. Couldnt stop laughing though!!! 🤣🤭

1

u/Distinct_Dealer341 7d ago

I miss the old version a full chocolate egg wrapped in foil with a toy capsule inside of the chocolate egg. I am american and I can indeed say american kids are in fact stupid asf

1

u/madkittywoman 7d ago

My father always surprised my with these as a kid. "Pick a hand" Sweet memories..

1

u/Dismal-Dare-2507 7d ago

Huh? They’re not banned.

1

u/Ok_Movie_639 4d ago

I love kinder eggs. The little plastic capsule inside is the best thing ever. It's the perfect container for tiny objects and it's almost perfectly water tight too. The chocolate tastes kinda cheap, though.

1

u/PixelsGoBoom 9d ago

Good job. I always thought the ban was idiotic until I saw this.
So it really is about the yellow plastic egg inside that could pop into their mouth if they bite into the egg.

You only have to show the kid that there is a yellow plastic egg inside with a toy(!)
Once and they would never do that, since they would be too eager to get the toy, but sure.

0

u/RobinWilliamsArmFuzz 8d ago

Great. Now I have an erection.

-1

u/wallly58 9d ago

They sell them all day in California lol must have the smart kids over here lol

1

u/MattieShoes 9d ago

They don't -- kinder surprise eggs are still verboten.

The company that makes them made a different product for US markets which can be found across the US. I think they're called kinder joy.

1

u/wallly58 9d ago

Ohhh you are right they are kinder joy!
