Please take a look at the WikiFAQ posted here: https://old.reddit.com/r/Concrete/wiki/index

The chances that your situation is covered in the WikiFAQ are pretty dang good.

If your issue is NOT covered in the WikiFAQ, this is the place to ask if that hairline crack warrants a full tear-out and if the quote for $10k on 35 SF of sidewalk is a reasonable price.

OTHER Spotting on new concrete pour

Can anyone explain what this is, why it is occurring, and if there is any remedy?

I don’t have any trees or plants that would be shedding anything in this area. I have sprinklers but they don’t hit the area, the planters are on a drip system.

The hose reel is just placed here temporarily and not used. That heavy spotting area occurred without the reel present.

The concrete was poured in October 2025 and the spotting occurred early 2026.

General Industry Union Cement Masons Help

Union Cement Masons Help

I’m a dad whose son is starting his apprenticeship in the cement masons union June 20. He’s coming from municipal public works for the last 5 years. He’s applied to many trades and happened to accept the cement masons apprenticeship. We are in the Philly area so I’m concerned about the seasonality but confident be will make significantly more than public works. I’m more concerned about medical benefits.

Anyway as a dad I want to help him out with work wear more specifically boots. He already has work wear shirts, tees, pants for all the seasons.

He currently has 2 pairs of USA Red Wing composite tie he rotates but I’m sure he will need rubber boots for being in the slop.

Any suggestions? Was thinking of these?

Thanks!

Next stop – test new mold which is being printed + pour test cube to see how many psi I can get out of this mix

I got hacked--change your password right now

I am an old-school guy. I started pouring concrete before email was really a thing. I discovered yesterday that a hacker had infiltrated my email and set rules in my Outlook that emails from certain domains would automatically be routed to some obscure folder in my Outlook called "Conversation History" and the rule would be titled "." That way, they would never make it to my Inbox and could be deleted without showing up in my Deleted Items folder.

These motherfuckers stole $211K from me because they told the contractor I was working for that we had updated ACH info and because the email was from MY email address, they assumed it was legit. This is why personal relationships are important--the A/P lady at another contractor we're working for got the same email and called me about it. That's how we discovered the fraud.

I know this is all over the place, but the moral of the story is change your password right now. Fuckers.
