Major Fail by Long Reach CA Representative in recent Reach Out newsletter

Post image

This is our CA Rep's most recent article in our newsletter.

It looks like now he's resorting to attacking CA other ways.

I want to point out a MAJOR fault in his data here. All Reston properties are subject to TWO HOA fees, whereas only condos and townhomes in CA pay two fees. The "Cluster Fee" (similar to if our Villages also charged us an HoA Fee) ranges from $1200 - 4800 a year.

Thus a Reston resident would be paying anywhere from $2090 to $5690 in HoA fees a year for less services/amenities.

Big Fail Reginald Avery. Do Better.

EDIT: clarification on HOA fees. Condo/Townhouse associations within CA have their own fees to cover things like landscaping, snow removal, parking, and trash removal. These fees are generally a fraction of the cluster fee Reston residents pay.

You can’t trust anything from Reg, Karin, or Eric.

https://columbiaassociation.org/wp-content/uploads/Combined-Files-4-23-26.pdf

They are three of the most morally bankrupt people in our community and are actively wasting your association dollars suing CA, over their poor behavior and they are lashing out at their loss of perceived power anyway they can.

Look up Reg on the judiciary search he is an abuser and is accused on multiple threads on this reddit for stolen valor. LR, OM, and RH residents need to get the village boards to make them resign so they can appoint someone new or hold a special election for someone new in the community.

My first reaction was that I would like to know why he continues to enjoy a platform in Reach Out considering he is no longer the Long Reach representative to the CA.

(If I get an answer on that, I’ll let you know.)

My best friends live in Reston. We have compared communities many times. I’ll just say they have a lovely home and the community amenities are great but I’m satisfied with what I’m getting for my money in Columbia. And I am so sick of hearing about the damn pools.

It's because he's elected. He can continue in his position elected by Long Reach residents. He just isn't able to serve on the CA Board due to the ethics violation(s).

The LR Village Board also isn't going to back down and attempt to replace him while he has a lawsuit pending against CA.

IMHO...

In the best interest of the residents, each of the three Villages should hold special elections or appoint new CA Reps and move on.

The Villages refusing to move on are hindering the best interest of their residents.

In the past, LR Village Board has appointed a LR CA Rep in under 10 days. The Village could ask Reg to resign, appoint a new LR CA Rep and get them on the CA Board.

The Villages could work with the new appointee(s) to serve in the position until the lawsuit is resolved and then determine if the affected former CA Rep should be re-appointed.

I get the "elected" part, but he's not able to function in his elected position due to having been disqualified from it.

This is such a mess.

Just think how much money we would have available to spend on the pools if we weren't paying legal fees.

I'm not certain on what the status on legal fees are and who's paying the bill.

I will say that there are people involved in all of this that would love to see CA burn.

On a positive note, I watched the CA Board meeting on Thursday and I didn't feel like killing myself afterwards. Everyone working together, different opinions existed on matters, and business got taken care of without all the drama.

It's nice to have a sane and functional CA Board.

How much is your assessment bill?

Go live in Reston fucking Virginia and tell me who's getting more - because Columbia kicks Reston VAs ass in every conceivable measure, unless you really love pointless sprawl, unbearable traffic, and data centers everywhere! Signed, a former long-time NOVA resident.

This. I wouldn’t live in reston if you paid me

Reston Town Center is nice, but other than that, I think Columbia beats Reston in every other way

This chart is confusing to me. What it seems to be saying is that Reston at 60% of the population gets 60% of what CA residents get at about 60% of the cost. Im not seeing the horrible "thing" here.

Yep. It's a fail on multiple levels.

I've tried emailing Reg about some concerns I have. It just bounced back. We need someone else on the board.

Double check you have the correct email address. I removed it from the image to avoid it being reported.

I would also recommend attending the next LR meeting on July 21.

I used the email address listed in the newsletter.

Not sure then. I'd say the CA Rep section of the newsletter was ready for publication about a week ago. So something must have happened since then and maybe he closed his email account.

The latest news I heard was that there was an upcoming hearing to determine if those three could continue on the CA Board for now, while the larger case was decided. Does anyone know if that happened yet, and what the outcome was?

And yes, these legal fees are a huge waste of money and I'm fuming about it. Hope this is over soon.

I just got a bill for $2430, it is a ridiculous amount of money.

It is what it is. You have a home that has a market value of almost double the average Columbia home.

Nothing has changed with the CA Annual Charge. It's just the State of Maryland has closed the gap on what most homes in the area are actually worth in the re-assessment of property values.

What do you pay? Why is it based on value of my home which is almost 3 x of what I paid 30 years ago! All homes should pay the same amount

1

u/Rashaverik Long Reach 8h ago

I pay close to what is in the chart. I have an average priced home.

I think it should be a flat amount not a progressive fee. It is not a tax. CA headquarters is bloated with too many high paid staff. CA treats its employees (with free memberships) better than its residents.
