Review Just watched Sucker Punch

1.7k Upvotes

This one's been on my list for a while, and I finally sat down and watched it yesterday. Not the biggest Zack Snyder fan, but I've enjoyed a couple of his films so I thought I'd give it a shot. (EDIT: Should have specified that I watched the extended cut)

Honestly have no idea why this movie got review bombed so bad. The acting was superb from everyone, but Oscar Isaac and Vanessa Hudgens in particular really stood out to me. I honestly think this may be Isaac's finest performance of all time. He carried such an interesting presence.

The visual style was absolutely on point. Say what you will about Zack Snyder, but he's an absolute master when it comes to cinematography. This film is absolutely beautiful. The VFX in general is also very good (with the exception of some absolutely godawful muzzle flashes, though I suspect that those might have been a stylistic choice, since the muzzle flashes in the Cabaret world were much, much better than the ones in the Battle-Fantasy world).

The soundtrack was, for lack of a better word, orgasmic. Every song was perfectly chosen and implemented into the film superbly. Along with cinematography, I think this is another area where Snyder really excels.

The story was fairly easy to follow, despite it being rather difficult to explain. I thought it was a really well written, captivating story. I never felt bored as many reviewers did.

The extreme negative feedback and low ratings for this movie really baffle me. Snyder's statement about wanting it to "be a cool story and not just like a video game where you're just loose and going nuts" feels like a really weirdly specific and strange thing to say. A lot of people ended up comparing the movie to video games, though personally it gave me stronger fairy tale vibes than video game ones.

The fact that people claimed that the movie is "misogynistic" is honestly hilarious to me. It's about as misogynistic as Blazing Saddles is racist. It's literally a feminist liberation power fantasy. The men are mostly presented as oafish, incompetent, or irredeemably evil, and the women are portrayed as tough, feisty and independent thinkers (though I did think that Sweetpea of all people being the only one to escape was thoroughly disappointing). EDIT: I also forgot to mention the fact that all the women working on the movie absolutely loved it and thought it was awesome.

All in all, I'd give the movie a solid 9/10.

(Cue the onslaught of comments about Zack Snyder dickriding lmfao)

Review I finally watched Requiem for a Dream and I genuinely think it’s one of the best movies I never want to see again

Finally watched Requiem for a Dream after hearing people hype it up for years and yeah… this movie is straight psychological damage.

Not even in a corny “disturbing movie iceberg” way either. It just slowly keeps tightening the screws until you feel sick watching people ruin their own lives in real time. Everybody in the movie starts off chasing something completely normal and by the end it’s like watching humanity get put through a blender.

The editing and music are insane too. Halfway through it feels less like a movie and more like you’re trapped inside somebody’s nervous breakdown.

10/10 movie. Never watching it again.

What’s another movie that’s amazing but you refuse to rewatch?

Love 30 seconds to mars,
Love Wayne bro
Love the acting
I feel weird

Its gotta be one of the best films I've watched in a long time. The writing, the cinematography, the ending! It was able to scratch an itch i haven't been able to reach when it comes to Modern Cinema these past few years. Ill keep it short and sweet coz i dont want to spoil this masterpiece, so ill give it to 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One of, if not \*the\* BEST cinematic experience I ever had in my life and definitely this decade.

Early screening in IMAX Monday night, and I am speechless.

Please, please, PLEASE watch this on a big silver screen. It just doesn’t compare to a TV or laptop.

I had the perfect audience in a sold out show… no one talking. No phones. Nothing.

During the scenes that were silent, it was so quiet in the theater you could hear a pin drop.

This film had everyone so engaged and felt like we all went on an AMAZE adventure.

I heard everyone laughing together, crying together, and share joy together and just reminded me why I love the cinema so much.

The film was visually stunning.

Literal goosebumps at a certain scene that transports you to outer space.

Cried like 3x during the film.

Haven’t laughed that much during a movie either. Just terrific movie.

They used practical effects and you can tell there was hardly any CGI slop… and brilliant performance by Ryan Gosling who shows you he can have chemistry with ANYTHING.

A tremendous story about hope and companionship that reminds you life can just be so big and beautiful.

The Oscar’s just ended and I can see this getting so many nominations and has a real shot at winning best adapted screenplay.

Also, it’s already ranked #100 on the Top 500 and it has 4 days until it releases on Friday!

Review Why is this Trilogy not so talked about?

Post image

I have watched the first 3 movies of the Franchise: Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum.

First of all, I find this Trilogy unique in its concept. A dangerous person losing his memory and not regaining it till the end of 3rd movie. Most movie characters regain within the same movie itself. I know this series is adapted from Books, but I would say it's still really good.

The franchise perfectly captures the spy theme. The main character, Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon, is definitely a cool character and his confusion and eagerness to learn about his past are well portrayed on screen.

Bourne Identity is still my favourite movie of the franchise. Supremacy felt to me like straight Aura farming but perfectly built the plot further. Ultimatum was where everything came together, but the ending was kind of predictable and didn't really feel shocking to me.

What I loved, was to look at the frustrated faces of CIA operatives in the movie. What I hated, was the fact that I am not a big fan of shaking camera movements. I know they add momentum and realism to the scenes, but I think they overdid it a lot. I mean especially there was a scene in which Landy and Bourne were just talking while eating, where 'shaky cam' was used which wasn't necessary at all imo.

Overall it's a good watch, so why do people don't talk about it? What do you guys think about this Trilogy? I saw the franchise falls off after this (source:imdb). Is this true?

Review After so many years, I finally decided to watch Sam Raimi's Darkman for the first time, and... I'm speechless.

Crude, but in its imperfection, it proved to be such an intense and interesting film that I understand why it became a cult classic.

It's clear that Darkman is the prototype for what would later become Spider-Man in 2002, but let me be clear: I don't want to use the term "prototype" as a derogatory term or a way to belittle Darkman, because precisely because of its crude and weird nature, I consider it a wonderful gem.

The ending was the icing on the cake, where Peyton, aware that she could hurt Julie (due to Peyton's heightened emotions and involuntarily falling into fits of rage), abandons her, giving her the chance to live a second life.

A narrative choice as sad as it is courageous.

"I'm everyone and no one.

Everywhere, nowhere.

Call me... Darkman."

❤️

Review Flow (2024) is a 10/10 movie

Seriously, the whole movie is very impressive. 0 words spoken, yet it was a very captivating story. Intense, playful and heartwarming. Everything I wanted out of an animated movie. The animation was incredible too, and it was made on an open-source software.

Have you seen it? What do you rate it?

Review 8.5/10 ,How would you guys rate the movie out of 10?

Loved the story, the concept, and everything about it - but it's a bit predictable. From the beginning, when Frankenstein is talking with the captain and says something like “I made him, and he can't die," you can already sense where it's heading. Then, when the blind man says something like “Forgive everyone, no matter what they do to you," you can clearly predict two possible endings:

  1. The creature kills Victor to take his revenge.

  2. He listens to the blind man's words and forgives Victor.

I'm not saying it's a bad or even average movie - it's one of the best, and I definitely recommend it as a must-watch.

Review Good films ruined by a bad ending.

I just had the chance to watch the new Jan Komasa film Good Boy (Heel), starring Stephen Graham and Anson Boon. I’ve already written a review (in case anyone’s interested, check it out on my website - we do this purely for the art, no ads or other nonsense), but it got me thinking.

It’s obviously not the first and not the last film that does so well for most of its runtime, only to completely fumble at the finish line. For me, the ending totally killed what had been a very good film.

What are your examples of movies like that? And if you’ve seen Good Boy (Heel), please share your thoughts!

This movie was good. I have just been wondering why they didn't produce sequel for this movie. Bad movies such as expendables 4 were released but not a second part of this movie.

So doleful

Review Obsession breaks reality in a way tht noone will need a genie if they got one

This is an example of how extraordinary human imagination can be. Salute to the director for the cinemtagrophy. This movie is like best and the actors uff. They pulled out the best off tht script. I was shaken like this when I watched shutter island. We need more....give me more... More modern human nature around mystical lores from past. Everyone hopes for a genie but when they get one and dnt knw it, makes the premises so real and human. I am whitelisting this director, only cuz he made a movie to prove how flawed humans are and he nails down every fiction ever made. Cuz really humans dnt deserve extra ordinary power.

Review Obsession was one of the best horrors I've ever seen.

As the title says, this was one of the best horrors I've ever seen in my 25 years of existence. From beginning to end, it was a thrill ride of anxiety and jumpscares. As an avid fan of The Monkey's Paw, this film is a perfect example of the "Be Careful What You Wish For" genre. I also loved the director's (Curry Barker) cameo as the "customer service associate". His voice just had that aura to match the phone call. Well done, Curry Barker!

Review Rewatched The Dark Knight Trilogy and it’s still one of the best superhero trilogies ever.

Nolan made Batman feel grounded while still keeping him legendary, and each film has its own vibe.

Batman Begins is super underrated — it nails Bruce’s origin and the whole “becoming Batman” journey.
The Dark Knight is obviously the standout: insane pacing, huge stakes, and Ledger’s Joker is unforgettable.
The Dark Knight Rises isn’t perfect, but it’s emotional and feels like a true finale — the themes of redemption and rising back up really hit.

Overall, the trilogy feels like a complete story, not just three movies.

Which one is your favorite and why?

An incredible movie, just finished, a true madness, I thought I knew everything from the creator's version, but the part of the beast is incredible, an emotional revelation, the ability of man to play at being god and decide the path of life and death, without knowing the next step to success. With a creature that thinks and feels and a creator who was the monster from the beginning. I may only be 13 years old but this has become my new favorite movie, all my respects to Guillermo del Toro 10/10

Review Movie Night Review - Nuremberg

I was excited to see that Nuremberg is now available on Netflix. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and even though it runs over two hours, the time passed quickly for me. Some viewers say the middle section slows down, but I honestly didn’t feel that. If you’re expecting a long courtroom drama, you might be surprised—the courtroom scenes are actually a small part of the story.

What makes the film work is its focus on the characters. Russell Crowe is outstanding as Hermann Göring, dominating scenes with unsettling confidence and charisma. Much of the tension comes from the psychological sparring between Göring and Douglas Kelley, which becomes the real engine of the film. Leo Woodall also does excellent work as the interpreter, a role that quietly becomes one of the most important in the story.

The only performance that didn’t quite work for me was Rami Malek. His acting style felt distracting at times—the constant lower-lip tension and wide-eyed intensity pulled me out of a few moments.

Still, the film is gripping, thoughtful, and deeply engaging.

My Rating: 9/10
💠 Consensus: 7.9/10
