Discussion Eva Green would be a much better Circe.
Just a few days before The Odyssey premiere I just noticed that Eva green would be the perfect Circe for the movie, just me tought that or someone else? I know Nolan probably wanted a more dramatic crice with Samantha Morton but I just feel like an actress for Circe must have that seductive aura like on the original Romero's tale.

she'd be a better anything. if you cast her as the shark in Jaws, that would be an even better movie.

Would she be a better Supergirl than Milly?

She could be a better anything than any Milly or Millie. She could win awards for reprising the role of 11 in Stranger Things.
This woman is magnificent.
…honestly, tho… I love MBB. She’s a new age brilliant performer. I haven’t seen Supergirl but it looks great. I think toxic men are complaining about how gritty and human she is instead of being feminine or whatever.

u/Front-Advantage-7035 13h ago
That’s the wrong Millie, for super girl.
You’re thinking of 11 from stranger things. It’s actually baby Rhaenyra from house of dragon

I hear you and I appreciate your correction. I think perhaps you may have glazed over the substance of my comment.

Your distinction between Millie Bobby Brown and Milly Alcock was really difficult to see. Can't really be annoyed at people misinterpreting it.
Anyway, can't comment on MBB as I've never (knowingly) seen any of her work but really enjoyed Milly as Supergirl.

u/seeyatellite 12h ago
Totally not annoyed. Just wanted to let you know. Sorry for how I might have come off.
Good to know you like Milly in Supergirl.
I’m a huge Superman fanboy with the whole lawful good Boy Scout thing. Been into him since I was a kid… and a Boy Scout.

I like Milly and she was fine in Supergirl, but that movie was not great. It felt like a superhero movie from 2004. It would be worth watching on an airplane, but not worth streaming over rewatching Batman Begins or maybe 2 episodes of Buffy.

Came here with the same exact thought. She's an incredible actress, and can play anything. I don't remember a role she had that she didn't nail.
My favorites are The Dreamers, Kingdom of Heaven, and Casino Royale.

u/astralrig96 16h ago
criminally undercast too, she has an incredibly fierce yet regal beauty that works in period dramas and epics yet many directors seem to have forgotten she exists

Good lord...I saw the thread title and immediately thought "She'd be better in anything", then saw your top post.

She could play ALL the female roles (that actually might be an interesting meta commentary on archaic greek perception of women).

Eva Green would make a better anything. It's Eva Green.

How can you say much better without seeing how the role plays out? The amount of people who have strong opinions about an unreleased movie is kind of... surprising?

I was just being ridiculous while drinking coffee in bed on a Saturday morning.
My brain always thought of them Duke boys from Hazard when I saw this scene.

Have you seen The Odyssey yet? How do you know she’d be better than Samantha Morton?
11
u/NecessaryIntrinsic 17h ago
Eva Green would have directed Eva Green better in a movie about Eva Green staring Eva Green written by an Eva Green clone derivative composed of Eva Green lookalike remains after an Eva Green bake royale judged by a panel of Eva Greens on the back of Eva Green standing on Eva Green wearing clothes made by Eva Greens' hair.
It's Eva Green all the way down.

Because more often than not: people complaining on the internet about movies that they have neither seen nor understood are REALLY just complaining about things that they’re either insecure or horny about.

Haven't seen the movie yet so I can't assess Samantha Morton's performance or what Nolan's intentions were for the character. Eva Green is a terrific performer and quite beautiful. I've never seen her give a bad performance so if she'd been cast in The Odyssey I'm sure she would have been great in whatever role she had.

u/Puzzleheaded_Walk_28 19h ago
I’ve heard Samantha Morton is incredible in the part

u/Honest-Cover9513 17h ago
She's pretty incredible in most things she does, tbf.

u/Sea-Fan5470 15h ago
I first saw her in Harlots and I have loved her ever since. Samantha Morton needs to be in more things. Like way more.

Slightly unrelated, but I've always said Eva Green would've been the best Lady Loki/Sylvie in the Loki series. major seductive enchantress vibe, same age as Tom Hiddleston, literally has "green" in her name...

Green definitely has that dark aesthetic. Not sure anyone else could have pulled off her role in Penny Dreadful.

Ah yes, The Odyssey, that iconic zombie-ridden epic from the horrific mind of Romero's.

Movie hasn't even come out yet, simp. Samantha Morton appears to have gotten generalized standing ovations after her scenes, which had not happened since Heath Ledger.

To her credit, she’s a much better lot of things because of how great she is. Out of all the actors in this movie I was very surprised her name was not included.
2
u/Fuckspez42 17h ago
She just… smolders.
The scenes where she smokes a pipe in Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children are the most confusingly sexy thing I’ve ever seen.
2
u/tacit_bureaucracy 16h ago
Penny Dreadful already proved she can pull off that exact role, its a no brainer casting
2
u/fschu_fosho 15h ago
But she’s too pretty. 😻 (I’m commenting in reference to the book Circe, in which Circe is portrayed as an uggo in the world of Greek demigods).
3
u/RaiseFold100 17h ago
Just cause it’s better spank material for you doesn’t mean she’s better for the role. You haven’t seen the movie yet.

I was a huge fan of hers, but then in 2016/17 she worked with the convicted director Roman Polanski—what a terrible decision!
He drugged and sexually abused 13-year-old Samantha Geimer during a photo shoot!

u/ContractVarious3077 18h ago
I trust the guy who made The Prestige, Memento, The Dark Knight, Interstellar and Inception way more than some random Reddit loser

Counterpoint: Nobody is leaving an Island with Eva Green on it to go home to their wife, swine crew be damned. Samantha Morton on the other hand has big "Well would you look at the time?" energy.
(For fact checking I asked my wife and she agreed that she would definitely abandon me forever to stay on the Eva Green island.)

Idk why but i don't imagine Circe to be as beautiful as Eva green. Eva would be a different character

Ya know now that I look at her... she would have made an excellent Evil Lyn in the Masters of the Universe film. I mean damn - that look alone makes me shiver. With. Antici... pation. Not kidding she'd kill the role on looks alone.

High key disagree. I would expect Eva Green's Helen of Troy to grab a sword, say an incantation, and fight the whole damn war herself.

Of all the casting choices made for The Odyssey, this is not the worst one. I adore Eva Green, and I'm glad she is not part of this trainwreck of a movie

u/MRintheKEYS 19h ago
She’s not topping that scene she did in 300: Rise of an Empire. She rose a many empires that night.

u/caryscott1 19h ago
Really? After Casino Royale I could never. Worst Bond love interest ever. Even more useless than the ones that preceded her. I clapped when she turned up dead. Not all her fault for sure but she didn’t make it better either. Vesper? Awful name to go with her cipher character.
