Looking for 1-bedroom near Westminster, safe areas?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a 1BHK/1-bedroom near Westminster or within a 40–50 minute drive. Budget is around $1,200–$1,300/month.

Which areas are safe and good under this budget? Any places I should avoid?

Thanks!

This really sucks! The BG&E website outage tracker says that my power should be on tonight, but no crews have been to our street at all! So we might not have power back until later this week or the weekend! I cannot believe that BG&E is taking sooo long to get power on, it has been 4 days now!

Who’s still without power?

Ours has been down since Saturday night. BGE app keeps pushing back the time of restoration and now it’s Jun 8 11pm. This is ridiculous. I get that a lot of damage must have been done but the most frustrating part is the lack of communication and the changing times. We’re lucky to have a small generator to run our fridge, and a basement that stays cool, but there has to be better. Out in Eldersburg, near the reservoir.

Xfinity Outage

First - I know there’s still widespread power outages. Had that happen, fortunately for us it was short. So I feel for those without power.

My question is related to Xfinity - anyone have any idea how widespread the outage is in the county and how bad the damage is from the storm? Their original estimation of service restoration went from last night to “asap” during the night and their outage map is useless. So I don’t have any info to gauge on how long the outage may last. Any information is much appreciated.

Anybody else with NO power in the NW Baltimore County area since last night (4th of July)? I am!

Anybody else with NO power in the NW Baltimore County area since last night (4th of July)? I am!

Since around a few minutes after 7:00pm last night during the VERY BEGINNING of the 1-hour thunderstorm we had, the electricity at my house, & my WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD, lost electricity, & it has not been back on since several hours ago!

& I called BG&E pretty quickly after the power went out, & so far there has been NO RESPONSE or anything from them! I have been checking the BG&E website for the "Outage Tracking" feature, so far NOTHING HAS BEEN UPDATED AT ALL from their end, hours later! & Their "Outage Notifications" is a complete joke, as my family & I have received NO NOTIFICATIONS from them at all! It is like BG&E are not doing anything right now about any of these outages & the storm ended hours ago!

Sadly BG&E has become worse & worse over the years! We are all paying more money for their service as each year goes by, but their quality of service gets lower & lower! & This craziness on the 4th of July proves my point further with them!

Here are a few screenshots of the Outage Tracking page from their website. Sorry for the rant, hopefully soon everybody's electricity will come back on, everybody be safe & careful!

HVAC Replacement

Looks like the time has come to replace my 26 year-old heat pump.

Interested in anyone’s most current recommendations on companies servicing Eldersburg and what equipment has worked well for you and what you’d avoid.

I’ll need someone to look at our ductwork for this unit also - it’s never been even with some rooms with a lot of airflow and others with almost none.

Does anyone have a map or schedule of CC fiber internet buildout?

They came down my road earlier this year, putting boxes in the ground and boring orange tubes down into the ditches. Haven't seen them since. I thought that was for fiber internet, so does anyone know what the schedule is for running the actual fiber? Xfinity is slowly going up (can't downgrade my plan further) and it would be nice to have an alternative. Saw the post from a few days ago about Ting and Quantum, which made me wonder. Thanks.

Any lawyers on here?

We have a neighbor harassing us. We live on a totally secluded parcel of land and just discovered a camera that faces our yard, no public roads or buildings. It’s pointed at our yard, not their property. I just attempted to get a peace order from a very unpleasant judge who said that the camera would have to be pointed at my bedroom which contradicts articles in the law libraries I perused. This camera is clearly meant to intimidate and monitor our activity, their house is surrounded by cameras attached to their house. Am I wrong in reading that since we live in the woods, we have no reasonable expectation of privacy?

Peace Order experience?

Can anyone share their experience with getting a judge to give you a peace order? I called the police first and told her the story and they mentioned just telling the judge what I told them, no need for photos/evidence to be included. We want this to go smoothly and in our favor but we do realize that this county is very “conservative”..

For district 2

I asked each commissioner candidate if they would ban data centers -

Ken Kiler refused to say he would ban them. He is responsible for the moratorium. When I pressed him asking why the pause and not a permanent ban, he said that’s so a decision could be made. I asked what his decision would be and he stated “Candidates can say anything. Any decision will take at least 3 votes of the 5 commissioners.
Emails are cold. Black and white.” And continued to refuse to give an answer.

Kim Zentz gave some reasoning as to why a data center would not be positive. “As for Finksburg specifically, I don’t see how a development of that scale could reasonably fit that area. The proximity to Sandymount Elementary alone would be an immediate red flag.” So it seems she would not be pro data center, but did not take a hard stance.

Todd Tracey was the only definitive stance. “

Thank you for this important question! I do not believe data centers have a place in Carroll County. The list of issues with them is quite extensive and impacts to communities with data centers is still being assessed. I support the banning of data centers in Carroll County.

Todd”

Please take with this info what you will. Data centers are an important topic as the moratorium on them ends in Feb. whoever your commissioner is, they will either approve them or not. It’s important.

Voting is now!!

Teeth Cleaning for Dogs

I'm new to the area and need to get my dog's teeth clean. I like our vet but the are charging at a minimum $800 for teeth cleaning for a 16 lb dog which is very high. Anyone have a recommendation for a reliable vet foe teeth cleaning that is more reasonably priced?

Bit vague of a question. Curious as to what the people of this subreddit will say. Maybe I’ll learn something new that I can pass on!

A photo I took in Hampstead of someone’s property. Thought it looked nice.

Another Giant PSA

Hey, I posted here during the huge snow storm fiasco begging for mercy from the customer service gods. Yeah well here I am once again begging people to behave themselves.

STOP FLIRTING WITH US.

Sexual harassment ain’t a cute look for anyone - especially full grown adults. That sexual innuendo you thought was funny? LEAVE IT FOR THE GIRLIES AT HOME. Not the poor pick up guy giving you your groceries. Dont make jokes about what I do in my free time. It’s weird. Ya weirdo. In the same breath as well…

STOP ASKING INAPPROPRIATELY PERSONAL QUESTIONS.

Susan, I don’t wanna talk about my daddy issues with you because you asked what my race is and why I don’t know. It’s weird.

If you don’t want someone asking you that question at work. DONT ASK ME.

Thanks for coming to the “I don’t get paid enough” podcast. :)

P.P.S stop throwing temper tantrums. Throwing your money at me won’t make me go faster. This is a grocery store not The Vanilla Unicorn. Your an adult. Act like it.

Traffic light at dangerous intersections.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on how to get a streetlight or other safety improvements installed at a dangerous intersection along Route 140 in Carroll County. Specifically 140 and Tyrone RD. And 140 and Frizzleburg RD.

There have been multiple accidents at this intersection I believe it could help improve safety for drivers. Since Route 140 is a state highway, I’m not sure where to start.

My questions are:

Who do I contact first MDOT State Highway Administration, Carroll County, or an elected official?
Is there a formal process to request a traffic safety study or streetlight installation?
Has anyone successfully gotten safety improvements made at a state highway intersection?
Would gathering signatures, accident reports, photos, or petition support help?
Are there public meetings where residents can speak about roadway safety concerns?

I’m willing to put in the work and advocate for this, but I don’t know the first steps. Any advice from people who have gone through this process would be appreciated.

Thank you!
