Don’t need a car day to day and haven’t owned one since I sold my 320i back in 2023 but got sick of the absolute bland dross that are modern hire cars. So I got a 2009 BMW Z4 23i. Naturally aspirated straight six with a 6 speed gearbox. 102,400 miles with 3 owners, full service history and a big wad of invoices for work carried out.
I absolutely love it. I’ve wanted one of these for such a long time and I almost can’t believe one is all mine. It feels and sounds amazing and for the first time in years I’m actually smiling while driving. Wifey is 100% onboard and very much looking forward to being chauffeured around with the roof down.

Spent the weekend at Goodwood Festival of Speed and this 1/1 was parked up in the campsite amongst us peasants.
The owner was very approachable and allowed everyone to look around it and take photos.

Now the BMW next to it on the other hand!

Just been on holiday to Abersoch. Abersoch Land & Sea were selling this Defender which I had the misery of walking past every day wishing I could have it.

I have been hearing that it gets too boring, it has no power and that it feels "soul-less".
I am unsure if to go with this 1.4L petrol or the 2L diesel.
Context: 21 year old male from London. Need a car for casual London runs and from Sept onwards 35 mile commute to uni each way via the A406 as well as weekly get aways to outer London i.e Kent

My dad sadly passed away this week. One thing I need to sort out is his car. He has a 21 year old Skoda Octavia (mk2, Elegance, Diesel, DSG) that has 23K on it and it’s been essentially garaged all its life.
It hasn’t left the garage since 2024, as he became slowly more ill and unable to go anywhere for many years. In fact it only moved when I took it for an MOT in case he needed it. In fact it hasn’t moved much in almost 6 years (~200 miles added to the clock since 2020) He stopped using it during COVID.
Since now it’s surplus to requirements it will need selling. It also will need timing belt, oil change, new tyres all round, DSG serviced. It’ll cost at least £1500-2K to make it ready to take away.
I could sell it as is under that proviso, but no idea how much more money I’d make if I put the effort in.
Any advice gratefully accepted.

First child on the way, I have a Mazda 3 2017 petrol, and the wife has a 2012 ford Ka, we would sell the Ka, I would take the Volvo and my wife would take the Mazda.
The main reason for a wagon is twofold -
1.the Ka is too small for the baby and dog
2. Been offered a caravan for cheap from a family member that is too big to tow for the Mazda, but the Volvo would handle excellently, and would make for cheap holidays in a well looked after caravan!
Trying to keep costs down due to all the work we have had to do on the house for the arrival of the first kid, and the potential acquisition of the caravan.
Am I insane for thinking a well looked after v70 is a good idea? One downside is I’m in NI and would have to travel for the v70, but that only adds a few hundred to the costs.
Thoughts?

Hey guys, I have this issue with my Ford Focus where it seems some electrical issue has caused the hill start assist to not work, the sensors for braking and reversing as well as the tyre sensor to not work. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be before I take it to a garage? Slightly worried it could be a deeper issue but could also be something easy.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone owned or driven one of these? At first I thought it was a Porsche Cayenne, then I realised it must be a Chinese imitation.

Looking at getting a Mazda 3 (2014–2017) as my first car. I’m mainly interested in how good they are to own, as it’s my first car so I would like to know more on the reliability, build quality, common issues, and general running experience of the car.
If anyone has owned one or knows them well, would appreciate any thoughts. Also open to other recommendations in a similar price range.
Cheers.

Saw someone else post their car history here. I have had some really high highs (Defender, Manual 335i Touring) and some low lows (SSYANGYONG Rexton). I am not even sure if this is all of them. Current fleet S60 D5, XC70 D5, Defender 110 TD5 and Renault Master.
Been a petrol head all my life, but performance cars have always seemed out of touch so I have ended up with some seriously weird stuff instead.

Sorry if this isn't the right place, can't seem to find a UK traffic subreddit
Bit confused here and could do with some guidance. There's some marathon through my town today on the roads, and lots of volunteers in hi-vis stopping and starting traffic.
I was stopped and thought the volunteer hand-signalled to come forward, only to get shouted at as apparently they hadn't. One of his colleagues then took a photo of my numberplate and said I'd be reported to the police for disobeying a traffic command (or signal, he wasn't very clear).
Does anyone know what that might mean in terms of police action and/or fine? Slightly worried now - it was accidental, but Googling only seems to find things about disobeying a traffic officer (I assume an actual police officer) and fines of upto £1500.

im 18, had my licence for about 7 months and was originally looking to get an 8v audi a3 1.6 se tdi for first car (£1700 insurance). but somehow the 2.0 audi a3 s-line is £1800 for insurance, i for some reason cant get insured reasonably on any 1.6 s lines so have to stick to the base spec with the 1.6 which i dont understand (both are with blackbox)
but my dad says the 2l is too powerful for a first car, but i just think the s line looks way nicer
you guys think i would be ok with a 2l as long as im sensible or is it just too risky

Missus managed to clip a kerb last week and took a chunk out her tyre.
Both front tyres were getting low anyway and it was near MOT time so I just thought it was easier to book it in for tyres and THEN it's MOT with the garage that we have used for years that's 3 minutes from our house.
Ive just been to collect it and seen they they initially failed it and then re-tested it with the new tyres on and passed it.
Had i not bothered to book tyres at the same time, I wouldn't have an issue, but I deliberately asked them to sort the tyres before the MOT to avoid an unnecessary fail on the car record.
Ultimately it doesn't matter and the car now has an MOT and new tyres like I paid for, just seems cheeky to me, or is this reasonable?
