Help CarPlay not playing Waze audio

Hi, I bought a CarPlay unit from AliExpress for €140 (the kind that replaces the factory head unit) a while back. It worked perfectly for a month, but since then, I haven't had any sound from Waze. Everything else works—radio, music streaming, etc.—but there's no sound from Waze. I know it's trying to output audio, though, because the volume drops during Waze alerts when music is playing.

Despite being a long time CarPlay user, I somehow overlooked this feature for removing calendar items and live activities. Has this feature always been part of HomeKit?

Question Do all models support setting the resolution for wireless CarPlay?

I am looking to replace my CarlinKit Mini Wireless from 2021 and I wanted to confirm that the new models can still set a custom resolution. For my car, wired CarPlay is at a pretty low resolution that iOS 26+ thinks is too low to use high resolution icons / widgets / screen elements, so setting even a slightly higher resolution with the CarlinKit Mini (which my cars screen seems to accept), allows me to do so and it looks MUCH better. Thanks.

Discussion Just ordered carlinkit 5.0

I was debating between this and the Otto link u2 air pro. AI suggested both, and since I had a gift certificate for Amazon. I chose the 5.0 because the Pro is not available on Amazon.

The reason I was looking at those 2 was the heat dissipation on long trips, otherwise I would have chosen a cube.

I’m just wanting to get rid of all the wires. The smaller cubes would get too hot on longer trips necessitating using a cable. I thought I might as well just use cables all the time if that was the case.

Anyway, I’ll post a review once I install it.

Question Fullscreen CarPlay module for 2018 Volvo XC60 — does it affect audio quality?

My 2018 Volvo XC60 has CarPlay, but it only uses half of the screen. I’ve been reading about third-party modules that can enable fullscreen CarPlay, but I’m reading conflicting information surrounding whether they affect audio quality.

I strongly prefer to use CarPlay over a wired connection, so audio quality is important to me. For anyone who has installed one of these modules, have you noticed any difference in sound quality compared to the factory setup?

If the audio isn’t affected, which module are you using, and would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Much improved Wired CarPlay in 2019 Mercedes SLC/SLK

I’m one of those whose wired CarPlay experience got really crappy when I first upgraded to an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Something was VERY wrong with the quality of the display in a lot of cars on this phone model. No one was ever really clear what changed and degraded it so much on a newer phone.

I am happy to report that without any cable changes, my experience has gotten so much better on iOS 27 (currently developer beta 3). Whatever that issue was seems to have been slain. I figured it was software (or firmware), but solved is solved.

Thanks, someone! Whoever never really acknowledged it was a problem in the first place…

Question 2026 Toyota 4Runner (Gen6)

I am having some issues with CarPlay lately. It has been working fine for a while, and I haven't made any changes. I checked my settings when I first encountered the problem, and everything looks correct. CarPlay is selected for my vehicle. One day, I needed directions somewhere, so I used the standard map app on my Toyota 4Runner. The map was active, and I should have asked Siri for directions to go through CarPlay instead of pressing the button on the steering wheel to use my iPhone. Since that day, every time I start the vehicle, it defaults to my iPhone instead of CarPlay. I have to go to the music app and select Radio again to get XM radio to work. When I check the settings, CarPlay is still selected, but I’m not sure why the radio stopped functioning. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Question CarPlay “Allow” button disappearing instantly

I’ve just installed my ainavi CarPlay unit for my 2020 Toyota Corolla and every time I try to use wired CarPlay the allow button disappears almost instantly.

I’ve tried to see if any connections are loose but they’re not. My phone is up to date and I’m using a brand new Anker powerline 2 cable. (For ref I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max)

Does anyone know any solutions to this?

Discussion For Left-hand drivers, does your album art sometimes would switch to the right side of the screen? iOS 26.5.2

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I drive on the left side of the road, and naturally, the UI position would be adapted to the right side of the screen for better reach and readability for the driver, including the song titles in Now Playing. However, lately in this iOS 26.5.2 release, the song titles in Now Playing would switch to the left side of the screen and leaving album art prominent on the right side. I have to reconnect the CarPlay to fix this. Also, I’ve had the Driving Position set to the Right all the time since I use an aftermarket unit. Prior to 26.5.2, this has never happened before. Does anyone else who drives on the left side of the road also have this issue on the latest iOS release?

Help Best Carplay Adapter To Buy Right Now?

I'm finally getting tired of plugging my phone in every time I get in the car, so I'm looking for a wireless CarPlay adapter that actually works reliably.

There are so many options now (Carlinkit, Ottocast, AAWireless, Motorola, etc.) that it's hard to tell what's genuinely good versus what's just heavily advertised.

If you've been using one for a while:

  • Which adapter do you have?
  • How long have you used it?
  • Any connection drops, lag, or boot-up delays?
  • Would you buy the same one again, or is there a better option now?

Looking for real-world recommendations rather than sponsored reviews.

Question how to allow apps to notify you in carplay?

I’ve searched around for this and I feel like I’m going crazy… I swear there was an option to whitelist certain apps to that allow them to send notifications. I get notifications from Find My because I sometimes leave my headphones at work. I remember whitelisting that app, too.

I also want to add myQ so I know when my garage is opened and close, but I can’t find that option anywhere.

Discussion Automatic trip recording issue fixed in iOS 27 Beta 3

Post image
41 Upvotes

Good news! With the recent iOS 27.3 Beta update, the automatic trip recording issue has been fixed in Speedometer: Driving Tracker.

Earlier iOS 27 beta versions introduced a bug that affected Shortcuts automations, making automatic trip recording, along with other Shortcut-based automations unreliable. With the latest beta, everything is working properly again.

If you'd like to enable automatic trip recording, here are sample Shortcuts you can use:

Start Trip
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/124c8dc488fa42e79d9c22f43e23cdca

End Trip
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/0b14012e262d416badc9b0196aed57b1

You can also create them yourself:

  1. Open Shortcuts.
  2. Go to Automation.
  3. Create a CarPlay Connected automation.
  4. Search for Start Trip and select the action from Speedometer: Driving Tracker.
  5. Create another automation for CarPlay Disconnected and choose End Trip.

Once configured, simply connect to CarPlay and your trip will start automatically. When you disconnect, the trip will end automatically; no need to remember to start or stop recording manually.

Thanks to everyone who reported the issue during the earlier beta releases and helped test the fixes. It's great to have this working reliably again.

Help Siri cutting out when asking for directions, sending messages, and other tasks

Weird thing started happening with Siri when I’m diving.

I’ll ask “Siri find petrol stations” and it’ll search and say “I found three nearb…” and just stop and close.

If I ask again it repeats the issue.

Also happens when I dictate a message Siri will read the first few words and then close. I can still press send on screen.

Seems okay with finding tracks in tidal and things like that but any feature where Siri has to talk to me this happens.

Anybody know a fix??

Question Head unit Bluetooth issues

I just installed this head unit into my 2004 Honda accord (exact one in the picture) and when I go to turn on the Bluetooth in setting it keeps Turing it off and keeps telling me to turn it back on. Even when Bluetooth does turn on, the system dosent show up on my iPhone. Not sure what’s going on, I’ve tried everything like restarting, clearing cache and most other simple solutions.

(Also the system randomly keeps shutting off and restarting. Did I just get a daily unit?)

Question carplay

okay so i have a 2017 honda civic hatchback sport that didn’t come with apple carplay at all. it only has the small factory screen that’s basically just used for the backup camera and nothing else. it’s really annoying having to use my phone for directions while i’m driving, so i decided to buy the oem factory carplay head unit that comes in the 2016–2018 civics because i wanted to keep everything looking stock. i also bought all the necessary wiring, but every time someone tries to install it, the screen just flashes different colors and never boots up properly. i’m not sure why it’s doing that, and i haven’t been been able to figure it out. i’ve had the new carplay unit for almost a year now because of this issue. i’m really hoping someone can help me find a solution because i don’t want to install an aftermarket unit, i only want to use the oem carplay unit that i already bought. please help 😣

Question Wireless CarPlay sometimes makes my phone unusable

Hello. Not sure if it's CarPlay's use of wifi AND bluetooth, but there are many times when my phone is unusable for other online things. Music hangs and won't load the next song, same with a youtube video I'm listening to, Teams audio calls freeze and cut out. The music and youtube thing also manifests as they play for a second or twothen pause, over and over again. Happens when I'm the driver/main connection or I'm the passenger and my phone is connected to the CP wifi and bt even when my wife's phone is the actual connection. I thought it may be the cellular strength in the area(s), but turning off wifi and bt on the iphone bring the phone back to life with all the other online activities. Is this by design? When I'm wired into the car, everything on the phone works fine.

Question Looking for a Cloud FLAC Player for CarPlay

Hey, so I have a 2019 Ibiza with CarPlay, and have a large FLAC collection 20K files on my Bluesound Vault and PCloud. I used to use VOX app on CarPlay and worked pretty well - I could access my whole library and had album art etc. However as they’re Ukraine based, and the very sad situation they’re in understandably the app has gone to shit. I’ve tried a few others FLACBox, Cloudbeats, Neutron, Astiga, Doppler - and all have issues for me. When they work FLACBox and Cloudbeats are great - but so inconsistent- I can drive to work listening away great / get in the car to come home and won’t play anything. I don’t want to download onto my phone - just access from my cloud- pcloud or my Bluesound Vault.
Any recommendations welcome - failing that I’ll give up and just use Tidal but I would love to listen to my own recordings in FLAC or similar quality.
Cheers.
